Tickets are on sale now! Check on School Cash Online to purchase your tickets. (A limited

number are available at the office.) School Cash Online can be accessed through the Lake-

view website homepage: lakeview.dsbn.org. Tickets purchased online will be sent home

with your child.

Performances are on:

Tuesday - Thursday April 17 - 19, 11-12:30 p.m. & 6:30-8:00 p.m. (matinee seating is very

limited)

Check out the Best Seat in the House raffle available only online for evening shows! Be

sure to get your raffle ticket for a chance to sit in the best seats in the house. For just $2.00,

or 3 chances for $5.00, you and your family can win seats in the front row sitting on a com-

fortable leather couch! You Must still purchase tickets to the show. Be sure to purchase your

tickets PRIOR to purchasing Best Seat raffle tickets to ensure that you will have a ticket to

that show first. The night of the performance, come on in and sit in general seating and just

prior to the production beginning, the lucky winning family will be announced to “Come On

Down” to the luxurious, front row seating!

Upcoming Primary & Junior EQAO Dates

Provincial EQAO Assessments are scheduled for Grades 3 and 6 students for several

days during the period of May 22 - June 5, 2018. Students in these grades will be writ-

ing these mandatory assessments for approximately one hour per day for 6 days. Watch

for specific schedules on our Public Calendar on our website. Please try not to schedule

any appointments for students during this assessment period as it is very difficult for stu-

dents to make up missed time.

Rankin Cancer Run Did you know….

That the 12th Annual Rankin Cancer Run is scheduled for Saturday, May 26 at Grantham Optimist Park

in St. Catharines?

That all money raised, every single cent, goes back to our community for care of cancer patients?

That this race is organized and run entirely by volunteers joining together to raise funds for Niagara

while honouring, remembering and continuing to be inspired by those touched by cancer?

That our own West Lincoln Memorial Hospital receives money every year?

That this will be the fifth year Lakeview will have a team in the Run? We had a blast last year and are all

really looking forward to a bigger turnout this year.

That a bus will come to the school to pick up all participants and will drop us off here when the race is

finished? No need to worry about driving and finding a parking spot!

Invite family and friends to join you. Register before the end of April and you will get a free t-shirt with our

school name on it. We have likely all been touched by cancer in some form or another so this is a small way

we can give back to our community to show our support. More information will be coming home this month.

to support Autism Awareness.

Thank you girls for a wonderfully entertaining performance. Your hard work and practice was evident, as well as your excitement and confidence. Way to go girls!

French Communication Skills Competition

On Wednesday, March 21, seven Lakeview stu-dents participated in the DSBN's inaugural Con-cours Impromptu to demonstrate their French com-munication skills in front of a panel of francophone judges at the board office. Our brave junior repre-sentatives who eagerly undertook the challenge to communicate in French about an unprepared topic were Hanna K, Landon V and Ava W. The coura-geous intermediate students who keenly chose to take a risk to display their French language learning included Moham B, Megan E, Darya N and Kirsi O. The staff is very proud of all the participants who represented Lakeview with great confidence and enthusiasm. We are also extremely delighted to announce that Kirsi O was selected to continue in the francophone competition as a DSBN candi-date at the grade eight level in Toronto on May 5, 2018. Bravo tout le monde pour un effort incroya-ble et félicitations Kirsi!

Grade 8 Graduation Mark this date on your calendar! Our Grade 8 gradua-

tion ceremony is scheduled for Monday, June 25 at

6:30-9:00 p.m. at Mountainview Christian Reformed

Church.

Our Graduation Committee is beginning to plan this

special event and we’re looking forward to sharing this

milestone in your child’s life.

Grade 8’s - Take note of this event if you require something for gradua-

tion this year. This is one of the projects supported by the Make Change

for Children campaign that we collected donations for in February.

CROSSING WITH THE CROSSING GUARD SAFELY

At Lakeview Public School, we work closely with our community partners and value our work with the Town of Grimsby. The Town is responsible for the placement of Cross-ing Guards, as well as providing a replacement when necessary. With the nicer weath-er ahead, more students will be walking or riding their bikes to school. Below are some reminders from the Town of Grimsby to ensure student safety when crossing with the Crossing Guard.

To enhance safe and active travel to school in our community, we strongly encourage our school families to use the services of the School Crossing Guards provided. Choosing safety over convenience is a positive life lesson to share with our students and we rely on both adults and older students to help set the example for positive and safe pedestrian habits for our younger community members. The added value of School Crossing Guards at key crossing locations, is the addition of the necessary ‘adult judgment’ to help ascertain weather conditions, road conditions, distance and speed, gaps in traffic, turning traffic, distracted driving and so much more.

While waiting to cross the roadway, always stand 2-3 large steps back from the road-way. When crossing with the Guard, we ask that you dismount your bicycles and scoot-ers and walk them across the crosswalk. Hold onto all sports equipment, remove head-phones/earbuds and pause phone conversations, allowing your sole focus to be road-way safety.

Wait for the Guard to indicate it is safe to cross the roadway once he/she is assured the traffic has stopped. Do not follow the Guard directly onto the roadway. Always walk across the road and no horseplay while crossing. If crossing at a pedestrian walk sig-nal, do not enter the crosswalk once the flashing hand has appeared. Wait for the next walk signal.

Please keep in mind that School Crossing Guards are out there serving their communi-ties, under all weather conditions and need everyone to follow the laws applicable un-der the Highway Traffic Act. Be mindful of their safety and the safety of their pedestri-ans!
