LA QUINTA ARTS FOUNDATION Federal Tax ID Number: 95-3842968 founded in 1982 dedicated to its mission: Promoting and Cultivating the Arts “This mission is accomplished by producing nationally acclaimed visual and performing art events, forming meaningful community partnerships, and providing cultural, education and personal growth outreach opportunities to students, artists, residents and visitors to La Quinta and beyond”. La Quinta Arts Foundation’s (LQAF) value to the community continues to grow as we are able to successfully deliver innovative programs reaching expanded audiences numbering over 38,000. LQAF’s 2008/09 activities demonstrated continuity and evolution of mission services expected from an organization with a history as old as the City itself. La Quinta Arts Festival, Art Under the Umbrellas, exhibitions and programming at the new La Quinta Museum and Blues, Brews & BBQ are achieving the dual purpose of being a high quality cultural resource within the community while attracting visitors to La Quinta. The 2008/09 economic recession will be long remembered for its hit Southern California. LQAF met the challenge head on achieving unrealized revenues. By forming strategic partnerships LQAF was able to provide more cultural art activities, and most notably achieve increased attendance and strong participation in all programs. In addition LQAF provided earning opportunities for 405 contemporary working artists and maintained historical levels of funding for student college scholarships. A debt of gratitude is extended to all sponsors, supporters, members, donors, and volunteers who make our service to the community possible. This year volunteers contributed 4,365 hours to LQAF. La Quinta Arts Festival, Art Under the Umbrellas, exhibitions and

programming at the new La Quinta Museum and Blues, Brews & BBQ are achieving the dual purpose of being a high quality cultural resource within the community while attracting visitors to La Quinta.

The 2008/09 economic recession will be long remembered for its

hit Southern California. LQAF met the challenge head on achieving

unrealized revenues.

Art in Public PlacesTo join the 26 sculptures and 9 paintings procured over the years, the 2009 City of La Quinta Civic Purchase selection committee chose a sculpture with water feature for the north entrance of City Hall.

New last year, the City of Cathedral City purchased two sculptures at La Quinta Arts Festival which now announce the City’s east and west boundary entrances. The Cathedral City Art in Public Places committee with Mayor Kathy DeRosa returned in 2009 to select another signicant sculpture to grace Cathedral City’s public corridors.

LQAF invited APP commissions and administrators in Southern California and Arizona to attend the festival. Contingencies from Fountain Hills, AZ, Cerritos and Riverside, CA attended. It is our goal to continue to communicate La Quinta Arts Festival as a viable Art in Public Places resource to cities and developers.

Featured Artist Alan McNielFestival 2009 Poster Artist Alan McNiel is also the creator of “Bert,” the ocial mascot for La Quinta Arts Festival 2009, whose image was featured on Festival 2009 marketing collateral and commemorative t-shirts. Bert was inspired by a real life White Crested Polish Rooster that lived next door to Alan in Montana. Bert appears somewhere in every one of McNiel’s latest series of paintings, including “Festival Frenzy,” depicting scenes from La Quinta Arts Festival, which was selected as the image for the 2009 poster.

Awards ReceptionWell over 500 guests attended Festival 2009’s opening night reception hosted by LQAF board and sta members on the Civic Center Amphitheatre lawn from 5:30 to 7:00 pm. Along with the Festival Artists, special invitees to the Awards Reception were LQAF Friends and Patron Members, and dignitaries from the City of La Quinta and City of Cathedral City.
