El primer congreso y/o taller sobre el cultivo de cacao y elabora-

ción de chocolate en Puerto Rico, se llevó a cabo en la facilidades de la estación experimental federal (Tro-pical Agriculture Research Station TRAS por sus siglas en inglés) en Mayaguez el jueves 14 y viernes 15 de julio. El taller fue organiza-do por el Dr. Brian Irish de TARS, el Sr. Eduardo Cor-tés de Chocolate Cortés y contó con el apoyo de el Dr. Ricardo Goenaga direc-tor de TARS en Mayagüez y el Dr. Orlando Rodríguez director del IDIAF (Instituto Dominicano de Investiga-ción Agropecuarias y Fores-tales). Este taller se llevó a cabo para explorar la idea de producir cacao a nivel comercial en Puerto Rico. Aquí no hay un protagonis-ta todos somos jugadores regulares con distintas ha-bilidades y conocimientos de la industria del cacao. La familia Cortes esta aportan-do todo su conocimiento en el procesamiento del cho-colate que han desarrolla-do por más de un siglo en el mercado. El Dr. Irish y los miembros de TARS están aportando todo el cono-cimiento y datos que han colectado por muchos años trabajando con el cacao.

Los representantes del De-partamento de Agricultura, la universidad por medio de las estaciones experimenta-les y otras agencias federa-les y sus dependencias es-tán apartando conocimiento y distintas ayudas a los agri-cultores interesados en co-menzar con este cultivo tan interesante. Como puedes ver es un esfuerzo de mu-cha gente e instituciones a los cuales nos mueve un mismo fin. Ya decidimos como grupo el crear un co-mité timón que trabajará con unos aspectos específi-cos del proyecto para pasar al próximo nivel. Debido a los costos de operación en Puerto Rico nuestro cho-colate a de ser uno de alta calidad y para un mercado exigente. La meta es que este producto esté en un futuro no muy lejano en la mesa del puertorriqueño y el mercado internacional.

Cultivating Cacao in Puerto Rico By Juan Echevarria The first

congress and/or workshop concerning the cultivation of cacao and making chocola-te in Puerto Rico was held in Ma yaguez at the Tropi-cal Agriculture Research Station (TARS) on 14th and 15th of July. The workshop was organized by Dr. Brian Irish of TARS, Eduardo Cor-tes from Cortes Chocolate and was indorsed by Dr. Ri-cardo Goenaga director of TARS in Mayaguez and Dr. Orlando Rodriguez director of IDIAF, (Dominicans Inves-tigation of Agroculture and Forest Institiute). The pur-pose of this workshop was to explore the idea of produ-cing cacao at a commercial level in Puerto Rico. There are many players involved, all with different skills and knowledge in the Cocao in-dustry, the Cortes family is sharing all their knowledge in the process of making chocolate, which they have been developing for more than a century, Dr. Irish and the members of TARS are sharing their experti-se and information, which they have collected over the years working with cacao, the Department of Agricul-ture and the university by lending their experimental stations, as well as other

federal agencies along with their dependents, which are contributing their expertise and other forms of support for the agriculturist whom are interested in cultivating this magnificient speicies. As you can see, it is a co-llaboration of many people and institutions all with a common goal. We have al-ready decided as a group to create a committee that will work on specific aspects of the proyect inorder to take it to the next level. Due to the cost of operations in Puerto Rico our chocolate will be the highest quality and for a demanding market. The goal is to have this product on every Puerto Rican’s ta-ble and sold on an interna-tional level, in the very near future.

I’m not really “keeping up with the times”, still stuck in the early nineties. I was always a fan of Hole (Courtney Love) and was a real metal head, but Depeche Mode Pandora station is grooving me right now.Who inspires you right now? I love its great sense of community and it has really great beaches.All the cement and trash.What would you like to come back as in your next life? It’s not separated from our bodies, as dogmatic beliefs have us believe. The qualities of our soul are qualities we can embrace and live by. What makes you feel free? If you allow yourself to realize or notice who you really are in this moment, right here, right now, then you are already free. Freedom comes from within you—it is a choice. But, sometimes it’s not so easy to choose to remove the bondage of old ways, programs or thoughts that can hold us back. Sometimes to even notice if we have these so called “limiting” patterns is a breakthrough in itself. So we might need or use catalysts of freedom: for me some are obviously paint-ing, music, movement/dance, being in the ocean, or nature...What worries you? Worrying really is a waste of time and en-ergy... - it means getting into a non resourceful state and stay-ing there for who knows how long because of something that hasn’t even happened. (Our present “now” energy would be much more productive if invested into what is before us right now). This doesn’t mean if you want to stand up, state your preferences, and act on them you don’t... just stop the worry-ing part. I catch myself worrying sometimes about the apparent lack of expediency of truth in the world. Then I remind myself to get back to myself...Your favorite film? Too many great films to choose just one, but films by Andrei Tarkovsky, Stanley Kubrick, Coppola, David Lynch, Almodovar, and Daren Aronofsky just to name a few....well, maybe my favorite is the animated film “Waking Life” by Richard Linklater or is it Amadeus by Milos Forman...Favorite musician, group, song/album or combination thereof? Wow! Way too many...I love all types of music - recently I’ve been listening to Gogol Bordello, Ojos de Brujo, Ismael Miranda from the 70’s, Gerardo Nuñez, and classical guitarist Jose Antonio Lopez among many othersYour drug of choice? Definitely Endorphins. Also, caffeine in the mornings I can’t resist that aroma.Who inspires you right now? Life itself, beauty everywhere, great musicians, directors, writers, other artists. In this moment, I just finished watching “Mao’s Last Dancer”, an inspiring per-formances and story.What do you think your purpose is on earth? To remember who I am. To imagine, to create, and to share creations. To love and experience joy, laughter, sorrow, and all other emotions.To play (not necessarily by the rules) and laugh (enjoy this ride). As I do these, I believe I can inspire others.What do you love about your city and what do you hate about it? The people (it’s a love/hate relationship)…just kidding. I defi-nitely love the people and lifestyle that is palpable and available in this part of the island; that’s why I live here. There is nothing to hate, except maybe taxes, but that’s everywhere.What would you like to come back as in your next life? As the guy in the film “Limitless” (towards the end when he no longer needs the pill) without the political career. Maybe I can do all that in this lifetime. ¿Qué te hace sentir libre? Si uno se permite a tomar concien-cia o te das cuenta quien realmente eres en éste momento, en éste lugar, ahora mismo, entonces ya estas libre. La libertad viene desde adentro de ti- es una elección. Pero a veces no es tan fácil elegir a quitar el lazo de las costumbres, programas o pensamien-tos que nos pueden retener. A veces el simple hecho de dar nos cuenta que tenemos estos patrones que nos limitan es un avance por si mismo. Entonces quizás necesitemos o usemos un catal-izador de liberación. Para mí algunas obviamente son el pintar, la música, movimiento/baile, estando en el océano o la naturaleza...¿Qué te preocupa? La preocupación realmente es una pérdida de tiempo y energía…significa ponerte en un estado no construc-tivo y permanecer ahí por quien sabe cuán tiempo debido a algo que aun no ha pasado. (Nuestro energía actual “ahora” sería más productivo si lo invirtiéramos en lo que tenemos ante nosotros ahora mismo.) No quiere decir que si te quiere levantar, declarar sus preferencias y actuar en ellas que no lo hagas…solo deja la parte donde te preocupas. Me doy cuanta que me estoy preo-cupando a veces por la carencia evidente de falta la verdad en el mundo- y me recuerdo de volver a mi ser. ¿Tu película favorita? Hay demasiadas para escoger sólo uno, pero las películas de Andrei Tarkovsky, Stanley Kubrick, Coppola, David Lynch, Almodovar, and Daren Aronofsky para nombrar al-gunos…bueno quizás mi favorito es la película animada “Waking Life” de Richard Linklater, o puede ser “Amadeus” por Milos For-man…¿Músico, grupo, canción/álbum o combinación de estos? En este momento, termine de ver “Mao’s Last Dancer” una repre-sentación y una historia inspiradora. ¿Qué piensas es tu propósito en la tierra? Recordar quien soy. Imaginar, crear, y compartir creaciones. Amar y sentir alegría, risa, pena, y todas las otras emociones. Jugar (no necesariamente por las reglas) y reír (disfrutar el viaje). Mientras hago estos, pienso que puedo inspirar otros.¿En qué te gustaría ser reencarnado? Como el hombre en la película “Limitless” (casi al final cuando ya no necesita la píldora) sin la carera política. Quizas podré hacer todo eso en esta vida, quien sabe... ¿Qué te encanta y qué odias de tu cuidad? La gente (es una relación de amor/odio), es broma. Definitivamente amo las perso-nas y el estilo de vida que es palpable y disponible en esta parte de la isla, por eso vivo aqui. No hay nada que odiar, bueno quizás impuestos, pero eso esta en todas partes.¿Una citación o lema personal? “Imaginar crea la realidad” -Neville“Ponte firme en la tierra, desnudare hasta llegar al sigo amor en silencio” -Rumi¿Qué es alma? El alma es nuestro ser verdadero infinito, concien-cia, la divinidad interno, enredado con el corazón, enamorado con la mente…

Encontrar el próximo proyecto que paga, esalgo que te mantiene en alerta…es la fuerza que constantemente te impulsa a exponerte más y a tomar deci-siones audazmente, a cortar el alboroto y conseguir ser notado.¿Tu película favorita? Soy un fanático de las películas de los 80s, desde John Huges The Breakfast Club a las películas “B” de sci-fi post- apocalípticas, tu sabes las de bikinis, metralletas con un sentido de humor retor-cida…ultimamente, documentales de musica de los hermanos Maysles. ¿Algún músico, grupo, canción/álbum o com-binación de estos favorito? Los Petardos! Es la primera vez que documento la historia y desarrollo de una banda y sus miembros desde el comienzo en forma de fotografía y video. Su lanzamiento reciente A Co-Co es un álbum maravilloso que me hace sentir como en casa.¿Quién te inspira? La Web, libros de fotogra-fias viejas, documentales, personas y lugares. Pero sobre todo musica y historias.¿Qué piensas es tu propósito en la tierra? Honestamente todavía lo estoy buscando, pero si lo que hago puede ayudar a la gente, eso esta bueno.¿En qué te gustaría ser reencarnada? Un bi-kini bien colorido de los años 60s…es broma! Realmente no pienso en lo que voy a ser en mi próxima vida. Pero sí me imagino viviendo en otro tiempo! Como los fotógrafos de los 60s y los 70s que documentaban el nacimiento de rock classico como Jim Marshall or como Jack Delano y Walker Evans.¿Qué te encanta o qué odias de tu cuidad? La proximidad a la playa y la diversidad del paisaje, el cual cambia apenas en minutos. Desde el punto de vista de un fotografo eso es algo realmente fantastico y deseable.¿Tienes alguna citación o dicho personal? Las cosas se realizan cuando uno las hace, tomando el control y haciendo las realidad.¿Qué es alma? El alma es lo que uno le pone a su arte. Los pequeños detalles que defin-en su carácter interno, su estilo e ideas. Y sobretodo, es el elemento básico necesario para crear el trabajo que desafiará el tiempo.

It is a driving force that constantly pushes you to market yourself and take bold decisions, cut the clutter and get noticed.Your favorite film? I’m a big 80’s movie fan from John Hughes, The Breakfast Club to post apocalyptic sci-fi B movies, you know bikinis, machine guns and a twisted sense of humor...lately, music documentaries from the Maysles Brothers.Favorite musician, group, song/album or combination thereof? Los Petardos! It is the first time I’ve been in-volved documenting the history and develop-ment of a band and it’s members right from the start in both photos and videos. Their latest release A Co-Co is a wonderful record that just feels like home. Who inspires you right now? The web, old photo books, film documentaries, people and places. But overall music and stories. What do you think your purpose is on earth? Honestly I’m still looking for it… but if in any-way I help people by doing what I do, it’s all good. What do you love about your city and what do you hate about it?Love-the proximity to the beach and the di-versity. The change of landscapes in just minutes. From a Photographer’s point of view that is something really cool and very desir-able.What would you like to come back as in your next life? As a really colorful 60‘s bikini!…just kidding. I don’t think that much about my next life. However I do see myself living in other times. Like the old photographers from the 60’s and 70’s documenting the birth of classic rock like Jim Marshall or like Jack Delano and Walker Evans. A quote to live by or personal motto? Things get done by doing them, just by taking charge and making it happen. What is Soul? Soul is what you put into your craft. The little details that define your char-acter within your style and ideas. And above all, it is the basic element needed for creating work that defies time.

Frijoles y Chilangas has a Mexican style café feel, with warm friendly service and a family atmosphere .The menu includes all the usual Mexican fare including tacos, burritos, tamales, chimi-changas, fajitas, nachos, quesadillas, and different kinds of rice and beans. There is an international section including wraps, burgers, salads, pizza, pasta, a Rancho snapper and an Angus churrasco. Also, The Frijoles eggroll and the tacosagna are two must try dishes. The owners haven`t forgotten we are in Puerto Rico and add a criollo flare to the menu giving choices of tostones or arroz mamposteao, which I think is a very nice touch.

This is an excellent place to bring the kids with menu choices like quesadillas, burgers, chips and cheese, pizza, or wings.

Frijoles and Chliangas serves a variety of margaritas includ-ing versions made with tamarind, strawberry, and blue curacaos, as well as great tequila choices like 1800 and Patron. They have a full bar, wines, and craft beers. Don`t forget to cure your sweet tooth as well, with desserts like key lime pie, crepas de cajetas , flan Mexicana, churro bites, chocolate layer mousse cake and the xango which is a tortilla stuffed with either cheesecake, barvarian cream, or apples, fried and dusted with cinnamon and sugar .

So, the next time you get that urge and Mexican food is the only solution, you know where to go. Not only will you cure your craving, but you will also have a great time.

OktoberfestLa Celebración de cerveza Alemán

El “Oktoberfest” de Munich es reconocida por todos partes del mundo, éste se celebra las ultimas dos semanas de septiembre. El Oktoberfest ha tomado tanta popularidad que muchas de las ciudades alrededor del mundo, incluyendo Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, celebran su propia versión del festival. Cada año en el Beerstro de Aguadilla se conmemora la tradición Alemán y un sentido de camaradería y mucha diversión.

Según los historiadores el Oktoberfest originó como un gran banquete en la boda del príncipe Ludwig I en el 1810. Personalmente, considero el festival como una celebración del comienzo de una temporada de comer bien y mucho tomar. Despídete de las ensaladas livianas y la cerveza clara del verano; bienvenidas las ricas ensalada alemanas de papa, salchicha bratwurst, sauerkraut y sin falta la Buena cerveza Alemana!

Hoy en día se elabora una cerveza especial para el Oktober-fest llamada Märzen, lleva este nombre porque se hace en Marzo y es fermentada durante el verano. Por lo general esta cerveza lager tiene mucho cuerpo y tiene un sabor maltose que termina limpia y seca. Varían en color desde clarita a roja oscura. Se añade un poquito más de lúpulos como preserva-tivo para aguantar el verano caliente. Luego, la cerveza es servida en el Oktoberfest para que haya espacio para las cervezas nuevas que van a elaborar para el invierno.

The Munich Oktoberfest is well known all over the world, held the last two weeks in September. It has become so popular, that cities all over the world, including Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, now have their own version of the festival each year, to celebrate this German tradition and sense of camara-derie and festive fun.

Historians say that Oktoberfest originated in 1810 as a great wedding feast of Prince Ludwig I. I personally like to think of it as a celebration of the arrival of hearty-eating and heavy drinking season! Say goodbye to light salads, sorbets, and light beers. HELLO! Warm German potato salad, German Bratwurst sausage, sauerkraut, and, of course, good malty German beer!

A special beer is now often brewed for Oktoberfest called Märzen, because it was brewed in March and stored in a cool cellar for the summer. It is typically a full-bodied, malty ¢avored lager with a clean, dry £nish. They can be light or dark colored. Brewed with higher gravity or more hops to last through the summer.This beer is served at Oktoberfest to make way for new beer brewed for fall.

You can experience this special German celebration in your own hometown this year. Don’t miss One Ten Thai’s 4th Annual Oktoberfest celebration, held on Saturday, October 8th, 2011. “Agitado, no batido”. La receta original y reclamos a quien la invento son temas de debate en muchos círculos, pero una de las versiones

más comunes contiene...

There is no question that when most people think of cocktails or the history of alcoholic based drinks we think of The Martini. Mostly because of the famous , and ever so stylish British agent 007 with his classic line: “Shaken, not stirred.” The original recipe and claims to it’s invention are still debated in many circles, but one of the most popular versions involves 2 1/2 oz of gin (or vodka) and 1/4 oz dry vermouth stirred with ice in a mixing glass and then strained into a cold cocktail glass (most commonly referred to as the martini glass) and garnished with an olive or lemon twist. Purists might argue that by adding other ingredients to this popular drink it would void the “Martini” name and make it just another cocktail. But in the real world of bartending, where lines get blurred with each shot, the terms of purism get thrown out the window in favor of creativity.

In the small town of Rincon I met Clay, a guy not afraid to go against the “standards.” At the Ode to The Elephants Bar, where Clay works, one can order a delicious Spicy Chocolate Martini or a very tropical Guava Martini while you watch the sunset in their super chill-out atmosphere. Hungry? Just ask the man what’s good? And he’ll surely make a suggestion

and serve up one of his tantalizing creative concoctions to compliment. A Watermelon Martini or a Ginger Tea Martini, made with their home grown Thai basil and mint- or perhaps something like his Grand Peach Martini which calls for: 1oz Gold Tequila, 1/2oz Peach Schnapps and half a lime pulled from its pulp. All this goes into a cocktail shaker with lots of ice and as he recommends, “you then shake like hell” strain into a cold cocktail glass and after the pulp has floated to the top add a splash of Grand Marnier orange liqueur. Cheers!

La receta original y reclamos a quien la invento son temas de debate en muchos círculos, pero una de las versiones más comunes contiene 2 ½ oz. de gin (o vodka) y ¼ oz vermut seco batido con hielo en un vaso de mezclar, luego colado en un vaso frio de Martini con una aceituna o limón twist para guarnición.

Puristas dirán que al añadir otros ingredientes a esta bebida popular, deja de ser un “Martini” y pasa a ser tan sólo un coctel. Pero en el mundo real del barman, donde las líneas se ponen mas borrosas con cada chupito, los términos de purismo salen por la ventana, por favorecer a la creatividad. En el pintoresco pueblo de Rincón conocí a Clay, un hombre que no le teme ir contra los “estándares”. En la barra de Ode to the Elephants, donde trabaja Clay, puedes ordenar un delicioso Martini de Chocolate picante o un Martini de Guava tropical al disfrutar del atardecer en un ambiente súper relajado.

¿Tienes hambre? Sólo pregunte al hombre que recomienda y te dará unas sugerencias inolvidables, las cuales combinara con sus creaciones creativas para balancear los sabores perfectamente. Quizás un Martini de Sandia o uno de Tea de Jengibre hecho con albaca tailandés y menta cultivada en el huerto del restaurant. O algo como el Martini Grand Durazno, el cual lleva Tequila Dorada, Peach Schnapps y medio limón con pulpa. Todo esto es puesto en un shaker con mucho hielo y agitado con todo, coládo en un vaso frío de Martini, cuando suba la pulpa le agregas un poco de Grand Marnier. Cheers!

At the end of the 19th century, Puerto Rico produced

so much coffee that it became the world’s sixth largest

exporter of coffee. Consider that our Island’s size fits

many times in the territories of large coffee producing

countries both in the Caribbean and other regions. In

the 20th century coffee was grown in Rincon and similar

coastal latitudes, which are less ideal for quality coffee

beans than the famous central mountains, where coffee

is grown at altitudes higher than 3,000 ft. In places like

Adjuntas, high in the cordillera.

Perhaps the pride Puerto Ricans hold for their coffee

was the basis for such record production. Even today,

when caficultura suffers from scarcity of labor, there is

no slope too steep for coffee trees. Puerto Rico’s cool

mountainous climate, with temperatures that can go

down into the 40’s, is an ideal setting for great coffee.

Experts talk about beans grown at the highest slopes as

offering the very best cup of coffee.

Climate is not the only variable in the production of

great coffee; varieties, farming methods, and great care

in processing and preparation of the beans are just as

important. Adherence to proven principles and attention

to details are vital to distinguish great coffee as “spe-

cial.” American coffee lovers are discovering Puerto

Rico’s coffee as they come across some brands that are

meticulously produced in the mountains and prepared

with great care. Coffee farmers in the mountains who are

serious about coffee quality can depend on the craggy

mountains to produce beans of superior quality that give

them much pride and success.

En el final del siglo XIX se produjo tanto café en Puerto Rico que se convirtió en el sexto exportador de café más grande del mundo. Calcula que el tamaño de nuestra isla cabe muchas veces en los territorios de los pises que son los productores más grandes tanto en el Caribe como en otras regiones del mundo. En el siglo XX café fue cultivado en Rincón y en las latitudes costeras similares, que son menos ideales para crecer granos de café con la misma calidad que la famosa región central montañoso donde se cultiva en las altitudes pasando los 3.000 pies. En lugares las como Adjuntas en los altos de la cordillera.

Quizás la motivación de esta producción récord es el or-gullo que sienten los puertorriqueños por su café. Hasta hoy en día cuando la caficultura sufre por la falta de tra-bajadores, no hay cuesta demasiado escarpada para los cafetos. El clima fresco de las montanas, con temperatu-ras que bajan has los 40’s son ideales para cultivar café muy bueno. Los expertos dicen que los granos de café ue provienen de las cuestas mas inclinadas en las alturas ofrecen la mejor taza de café.

El clima no es el único variable en cuanto la producción de café bueno; variedades, métodos de cultivo, y cuidado en el procesamiento y preparación del grano son igual de importantes. Cumplimiento de los principios probados y la atención a los detalles son vitales para distinguir café muy bueno como “especial”. Los Americanos que son aficionados del café están descubriendo el marcas de café Puertorriqueño que son meticulosamente producido en las montanas y preparadas con mucho cuidado. Los cultivadores de café en las montanas quienes seriamente quieren cultivar café de alta calidad pueden confiar que las montanas escarpadas produjeran granos de calidad superior que les da mucho orgullo y éxito.

ORQUESTA EL MACABEO

“If we were strictly cocolos [slang term describing the subculture that follows Afro-Latino music, especially Salsa] we would look like what we like” …that is how Jose Ibanez describes their music. He along with “Bucho” Beauchamp created the Or-questra del Macabeo. In October 2008, taking their name from plantain-al-capurrias made only in Trujillo Alto, a group of rocker-friends came together to play salsa music, just to mess around and have a good time making music they weren’t familiar with. The rehearsals took place in their already well-known studio “Monopolio,” which dur-ing its existence had solely felt the rock vibrations through its channels. So, they kept fooling around… the rockers wanna-be-salseros start playing different venues around the island, pleas-antly surprised by the following, many of which were their rock show fans. They decided to record an album. In 2010, Salsa Macabra is born, an independent production with a peculiar sound and strictly social lyrics toned with brash humor. Some would say that their crudeness bordered curel, but “for good or for bad it is our reality, and we must tell it how we see it.” Salsa Macabra has sold more than 4,000 copies and accord-ing to the magazine Puerto Rico Indie, they were selected as the second most popular independent album in 2010. The Orquesta del Macabeo has been one of the greatest musical surprises on the island in 2010. Filling to capacity large venues such as, the stage at the Festival Claridad, the University of Puerto Rico’s the-ater and La Respuesta in Santurce. Currently, they are working on their second production entitled “El Entierro,” also completely independent.

“Si fuéramos estrictamente cocolos, nos pareceríamos a lo que nos gusta”…Así define su sonido José Ibanez quien junto a “Bu-cho” Beauchamp, son los creadores de La Orquesta del Macabeo. En octubre de 2008, y sacando el nombre de unas al-capurrias de guineo hechas solamente en Trujillo Alto, un grupo de panas rockeros se unen para tocar canciones de salsa, sólo para pasarla bien, y “joder” un rato haciendo música con la cual no es-taban tan familiarizados. Comienzan los ensayos en su ya famoso estudio “Monopolio”, el cual sólo conocía por sus canales, las de-cenas de vibraciones rockeras habidas en su historia. De vacilón en vacilón, los “rockeros con guille de salseros” comienzan a to-car en distintos lugares de la isla, siendo tan grata la sorpresa de su acogida de parte de sus también fanáticos rockeros, deciden hacer un disco.En 2010 nace “Salsa Macabra”, una producción totalmente inde-pendiente, con un sonido peculiar y unas líricas estrictamente so-ciales, pero con un humor bastante crudo. Hay quien pueda decir que su crudeza podría rayar en lo cruel, pero “para bien o para mal es nuestra realidad de vida y hay que cantarlas como las vemos”. Salsa Macabra ha vendido más de 4.000 copias y según la revista Puerto Rico Indie, fue seleccionado segundo mayor disco inde-pendiente del año 2010. La Orquesta del Macabeo ha sido una de las grandes sorpresas musicales de la isla en 2010. Llenando a capacidad espacios tan importantes como la tarima del festival de Claridad, el Teatro de la Universidad de Puerto Rico y La Respues-ta en Santurce. Actualmente trabajan en su segunda producción discográfica titulada “El Entierro”, otra totalmente independiente.
