A DEVOTION TO CARE AND FRIENDSHIP Former slave and active abolitionist Sojourner Truth lived in Battle Creek and spoke at the Sanitarium often. Dr. Kellogg greatly admired her. Near the end of her life, Kellogg admitted her to the San and tried to cure one of her severe skin ulcers by grafting some of his own skin onto her leg.
