Achievements in 2016

1. New and more cycling-friendly street design standards were approved at the end of the year by the Ministry of Regional Development. We worked hard for this to happen!

2. AVK initiated the launch of the national network of cycling NGOs. Today the network has 12 members. Ukrainian Cycling Network was actively engaged in the change of the street design standards.

3. 12 Advocacy Campaigns in other cities of Ukraine

4. Veloforum – the largest in Eastern Europe conference for bicycle activists and urban developers, held for 8 years. In 2016 – about 120 participants from 7 countries.

For national-level las updates we engaged:• 7 traffic engineers from all over Ukraine,• 3 international experts on road safety, • 1 member of the Research Board of the Ministry

of Regional Development• Head of the sub-committee of the Parliament of

Ukraine on road safety• Kyiv Deputy Mayor• Advisors to the Ministers of Health and

Infrastructure.

Kyiv Cycling Infrastructure and safety1. In 2016 Kyiv City Administration commissioned

development of Kyiv Cycling Concept based on previous work and research of cyclists and AVK.

2. Kyiv Strategy 2025

3. New routes are built and planned

4. We ran free lessons on safe urban cycling every Sunday between April and September. Hundreds of cyclists learnt to move safely around Kyiv.

5. Velohelp – launching the program to help the cyclists hurt in road accidents (cooperation with NGO MotoHelp)

MOST IMPACT

According to a research made by CEDOS analytical center, AVK is the MOST NETWORKED ORGANIZATION among 989 NGOs in urban development in Ukraine.

AVK in ECF board

In May 2016, Ksenia Semenova, Kyiv Cycling Policy Manager, got elected to the board of the European Cyclists’ Federation, a major European cycling advocacy organization.
