Drama
The Lion KingVenue: Hayward Theatre
Date: Friday 6th – Saturday 7th March
Time: Friday, 7pm. Saturday 2.30pm & 7pm
Price: £5 per ticket
Based on the 1994 Disney animated feature film of the same name and William
Shakespeare’s Hamlet, The Lion King is the story of Simba, an adventurous and
energetic lion cub who is next in line to be king of the Pride Lands, a thriving and
beautiful region in the African savanna. When Simba’s father Mufasa is killed by his
uncle Scar, though, Simba is led to believe that his father’s death is his fault, and he is
encouraged to run away forever. Scar seizes power and with his already unstable mind
deteriorating, the Pride Lands experiences a darkness and desolation from which only
Simba can save the animals of the kingdom.
Featuring classic songs from the film such as “Circle of Life,” “I Just Can’t Wait to Be
King,” “Hakuna Matata,” and “Can You Feel the Love Tonight,” The Lion King is a story
and a spectacle about identity, family, and responsibility that is enjoyed worldwide by
people of all ages, presented by a cast of Year 5 to 8s.
The Box Office opens on Monday 10th February. Book early to avoid disappointment!

Education, Education, Education
A Sixth Form and GCSE Drama presentation
Venue: Hayward Theatre
Date: Wednesday 18th & Thursday 19th March
Time: 7pm
Price: Free
Education, Education, Education is a brilliant and funny play about British schools in
the 1990s, exploring what we are taught and why, and will be performed by King’s
Company ‘Sixth Form’ students. The play is set in a run-down British secondary school,
Wordsworth Comprehensive, in 1997, just after the election that saw Tony Blair become
Prime Minister. Tobias, a new German placement assisting with foreign languages,
watches on as assorted members of the teaching staff struggle to deal with the demands
of their job, their unruly students, and their various personal issues. With the nation
riding the wave of New Labour’s exhilarating success, Wordsworth Comprehensive
continues its remorseless slide into chaos. Don’t miss this fast paced, hilarious play,
directed by Nick Huntington (Director of Drama and Theatre) complete with eccentric
characters and live 90s music.
The evening will begin with GCSE Drama extracts in readiness for the Year 11 practical
examination, with pieces from the National Theatre Connections plays. This will be
followed by the full play, Education, Education, Education.
Book early to avoid disappointment.
