    King’s Ely Junior

    Lord of the Flies

By William Golding, adapted by Nigel Williams

Venue: Hayward Theatre Date: Tuesday 19th-Wednesday 20th November Time: 7pm Price: Free

A group of English school children, evacuated from a potential war situation, find themselves on a small tropical island after their plane is shot down. There are no adult survivors. They elect Ralph as their chief and begin to create fire to signal to passing ships; build shelters to live in and take turns doing chores such as fetching firewood and scavenging for food. As time goes on, the children become less satisfied with Ralph’s leadership and rigorous chore schedule and a new leader, Jack, steps forward. One by one, the children leave Ralph’s camp to create a new tribe. A battle for survival, control and power ensues, and the children’s manners, compassion and even sanity is threatened to be lost along the way.

This classic novel, by William Golding, is adapted by Nigel Williams for the stage, and is as poignant in 2019 as it was when it was first penned in 1953.’

    Book early to avoid disappointment.
