Aarohan ’10 - An Inter-School Amrita Science Fest

Amrita School of Engineering, Bangalore, organized Aarohan- an Inter-School

Science Fest on the 21st & 22nd of January 2010 to kindle the scientific

aptitude among the school children. This event happened to be the first of its

kind where an engineering college provided a platform for the young minds

to showcase their scientific know-how. The response was overwhelming with

over 17 schools and 380 students registering for the different events of

Aarohan. The events were inaugurated by Dr. G. Jagadeesh, Professor, Dept.

of Aerospace Engineering, IISc Bangalore. In his address, he highlighted the

need for believing in one’s ability to develop ingenious technology rather

than aping the western world. The event was presided by Br. Dhanraj Swami,

Correspondent and Dr. S. G. Rakesh, Associate Dean, ASE, Bangalore.

“Just as a person needs air to breath, the soul needs to be nurtured with love and care.”-Amma

The teams battled it out for prizes worth Rs. 3 lakhs in various

competitions held in 2 tiers- one for the Pre University students & the other for

the high school students. The events organised were Anvesh - the science

exhibition, in which a laptop-controlled Maruti 800 won the first prize, Math

Olympiad - Utkarsh, the technical quiz and several other on-spot events. The first

day ended on a high note with the students tapping their feet to the college band.

The highlight of the second day was Aasubhashan - the symposium,

in which the students had to make presentations on selected technical topics

followed by the Science Olympiad - Vaigyanik. The valedictory ceremony was the

final showdown which drew the curtains on the 2-day gala event. “It was truly a

wonderful experience… I mean… to participate in an event hosted by an

engineering college…” said Ryan from KV, Malleshwaram. The rolling trophy for

overall performance was won by National Public School, Koramangala. Seeing the

huge success of the event, the management has decided to follow it up every year.
