Part 20 – Devouring the Forest Fire

Killing the Demon Pralambasura

Recap

• Unobserved Cows began to wander

• Attracted by the fresh green grass

• Goats, Cows and buffalo traveled to another forest named IshiikAtavi

• When theywent in, they saw a big forest fire.

• Krishna, Balaram and friends couldn't find the cows.

• They were upset and followed the foot print and eaten grass

• Cowherd boys thought their livelihood was lost.

• Why?

cätur-varnyam mayä srshtamguna-karma-vibhägasahtasya kartäram api mämviddhy akartäram avyayam

According to the three modes of material nature and the work associated with them, the four divisions of human society are created by Me. And I am the creator of this system, you should know that I am yet the non-doer, being unchangeable.

•Govinda – One who attracts Cows

•Go BrAhmana hitAya ca... – well-wisher of the Cows & BrAhmanas

•Indra hides behind KAmadhenu Cow

•Spiritual World has Surabhi Cows

•Cow urine, Cow dung

•Cow killers take many births

• They heard the crying of the Cows

• Krishna began to call the cows by their respective names, with great noise.

• Cows replied with JOY

• Although in danger how JOY ?

• Boys became very frightened

• Boys and Cows looked at Krishna & Balaram as dying man looks at the picture of the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

Why Dying Man?

• Boys think Nobody to save us except Krishna

yam yam väpi smaran bhävamtyajaty ante kalevaramtam tam evaiti kaunteyasadä tad-bhäva-bhävitah

BG 8.6 - Whatever state of being one remembers when he quits his body, O son of Kunti, that state he will attain without fail.

anta-käle ca mäm evasmaran muktvä kalevaramyah prayäti sa mad-bhävamyäti nästy atra samsayah

BG 8.5 - And whoever, at the end of his life, quits his body, remembering Me alone,at once attains My nature. Of this there is no doubt.

Krishna Consciousness Joyful

• Devotees always joyful

mäträ-sparshäs tu kaunteyasitoshna-sukha-duùkha-dähägamäpäyino ’nityästäms titikshasva bhärata

BG 2.14 - O son of Kunti, the nonpermanent appearance of happiness and distress, and their disappearance in due course, are like the appearance and disappearance of winter and summer seasons. They arise from sense perception, O scion of Bharata, and one must learn to tolerate them without being disturbed.

• Cows are pure devotees

• Bodily happiness & distress

• Kuntidevi Prayer

• Boys surrender to Krishna’s lotus feet to protect the Cows and also save them

“My dear Krishna! You and Balarama are very powerful. We are now

burning from the heat of this blazing fire. Let us take shelter of Your lotus

feet. We know You can protect us from this great danger. Our dear

friend Krishna, we are Your intimate friends. It is not right that we should

suffer in this way. We are all completely dependent on You, and You are the knower of all religious

life. We do not know anyone except You.”

• Krishna spoke through His eyes “Don’t Worry” - Assurance

• Supreme mystic (Yogeshwara)

• Swallowed all the flames of the fire & saved the Cows.

• 8 Mystic Powers of Yogis

• Boys were unconscious

• Demons show mystic powers

• Boys woke up at Bhändira forest• Free from forest fire attack

• Boys thought Krishna must be a demigod

• Devotees covered by Yogamaya

• Spontaneous Love

• Krishna & Balaram return home• Gopis became joyous

• One moment like 12 Years

“Glory to the Sri-Krishna-Sankirtana, which cleanses the heart of all the dust accumulated for years and extinguishes the fire of conditional life, of repeated birth and death.”

BG 2.40 - In this endeavor there is no loss or diminution, and a little advancement on this path can protect one from the most dangerous type of fear.

sarva-dharmän parityajyamäm ekam sharanam vrajaaham tväm sarva-päpebhyomokshayishyämi mä sucah

BG 18.66 - Abandon all varieties of religion and just surrender unto Me. I shall deliver you from all sinful reactions. Do not fear.
