Jurong Primary School uses Personal E-Motion (PEM) to effectively support teaching pedagogies
in their English Language instruction. The use of multimedia technology creates a dynamic
learning environment where pupils are challenged to think critically and to explore and express
their emotions.
Jurong Primary School uses Personal E-Motion (PEM) to enhance
the teaching and learning processes. PEM is a multimedia e-book
which has digital media and sound features. It also has the
capability to animate words as they are being typed. The English
department has effectively utilised video clips and digital images as
scaffoldings for pupils to engage in creative and descriptive writing.
Pupils present their writing, projects and experiments in
an e-book form.
The writing of composition for pupils has hitherto been based
largely on static pictures as stimulus for brainstorming of ideas
and development of plot. The use of PEM has changed this with
the introduction of a multimedia experience to enhance the
composition writing process. The pupils start off with role playing
a sequence of events and video tape the whole story'
development. The video tape will then be edited by the pupils and
loaded onto the e-book. The pupils then write the story as the
video is replayed. This approach enables the pupils to become
aware of the sequencing of the events and be sensitised to the
emotions and expressions involved. Similarly, to motivate pupils to learn the weekly spelling
words better, animated interactive e-Spelling Books have been created for Primary 1 and 2 pupils'
weekly spelling tests. For each word correctly spelled, the corresponding image will appear.
The use of PEM has enhanced the learning of our pupils. In the process, the pupils also learn the
skills of using digital equipment and ICT related skills and knowledge.
