Welcome to Kohima College, Kohima, a two time NAAC Accredited institution thestablished on the 9 of August 1967, which over the years has unfolded into an institution of

glorious pasts and one with a great future.

Deemed as one of the oldest and finest within the state, the college offers a Three year

Semester System Bachelors programme in Arts and Commerce Stream, Honours and Pass

Course with a vast array of optional subjects. The college has a dedicated team of

experienced, highly qualified, dynamic and multi-talented faculty imparting an all-round

education of physical, mental, social, emotional and intellectual development.

The college also cares for the individual development of each and every student for

which we have put in place a Mentoring System as one of our best practices, which ensures

that individual students get maximum support through continuous quality monitoring. With

an emphasis on Students' Welfare, various committees have been constituted to enrich

academic, extra- curricular standards, leadership quality and life skills needed for the

students' self- development, thus, making this college a vibrant place to explore and learn.

From e Principal

thKohima College, located in the scenic hillock of Kruoliezou, Kohima, was established on the 9 August

1967. This educational institute holds the distinction of being the first private college offering higher education in

the branch of Humanities for the first time in Kohima. The College owes its existence to the founding members;

Dr. Neilhouzhü Kire, Dr. Satuo Sekhose, Mr. Vibeilie Solo and Mr. Vilalhoulie Belho, four far sighted individuals

from Kohima Village, who shared a common concern which was the need for an Academic Institution in the

capital.

Kohima College during the initial years offered only evening classes and these classes were held at the

old Middle English School building and Union Baptist Church, Kohima. The Government of Nagaland took over stKohima College with effect from 1 February 2006. With the subsequent completion of the construction of a new

building complex in 2009, the College was shifted to its present site during the 2009-2010 session. An thInauguration Ceremony to commemorate the new complex for Kohima College was held on 12 May 2009.

The Inaugural address was pronounced by the Chief Guest for the momentous occasion, Dr. Shürhozelie

Liezietsu, the then Minister of the Department of Higher & Technical Education, Government of Nagaland. It may

be mentioned Mr. C. Khalong became the first Principal to head the college since government take over.

Kohima College, a Co-educational institution affiliated to Nagaland University, began its humble

journey in 1967 with 127 students on its roll. The college now offers three year Graduate Degree course in a

multitude of Humanities programs, including both General and Honours courses. The Commerce stream was

successfully introduced in 2016. Aside from academics, the achievements of the students in the field of games

and sports have also been praiseworthy and by no means, negligible. The students have brought laurels to the

College by winning several trophies at various inter college tournaments under Nagaland University and

erstwhile North Eastern Hill University (NEHU).

Kohima College is fortunate to have had some dedicated personalities to tend to its growth. The first

Principal was Mr. Horam, who joined in late 1969, followed by Mr. T Chuba who took charge in early 1972. Mr. H.

Gupta joined in December 1979 and Mr. H. Saiborne, towards the early part of 1992. The first Lecturer- in- charge

was Lt. Jonathan Chakhesang and after him came Mr. Bikstarwell Wanniang. Dr. Ralimongla, presently heads

the College as Principal.

A BriefHistory ofKohima College

It may be mentioned that Kruoliezou, where the college is presently located, is one of the fastest developing sectors in Kohima Town. The present campus covers a total area of 28.27 acres; the College has a three-storied building constituting three blocks with 15 classrooms, 1 Language Laboratory, 1 Seminar Hall and an Auditorium. The college has a digitized Library with internet and wifi-facility, and also a Book Bank funded by the University Grants Commission. Within the last 5 years, Kohima College has made positive and conscious decisions to acquire and increase infrastructural facilities so as to enable students to enjoy a wider spectrum of educational experience. A 50 bedded accommodation capacity Girls' Hostel and a 100 bedded accommodation capacity Boy’s Hostel alongside the College building is operating presently. Furthermore, construction of a UGC funded Indoor Stadium Sports Complex has recently been completed. There are also plans for constructions of new classrooms to facilitate more intake capacity of students; staff quarters and more hostels for both boys & girls are in the pipeline.

Kohima College celebrated her glorious fifty years of existence in 2017 and in the same year had also ndsuccessfully completed the 2 cycle of assessment by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council

(NAAC) Bengaluru and graded B+ . The college also hosted the first Inter Government College Olympic, organised by Higher Education, Government of Nagaland in 2019. Over the years, the College has produced over 10, 000 graduates and over 1,500 Honours Graduates. Currently, the college has a faculty strength of 47 Assistant Professors and 10 Associate Professors. There are 44 Ministerial staff under the college payroll. The college can hence, rightfully boasts of being one of the biggest College in Nagaland, catering to more than 1600 students. Making tremendous strides since the early years of inception, Kohima College is now one of the premier educational institutions in the state of Nagaland.

Internal Quality Assurance CellThe IQAC coordinates with all other cells set up to ensure quality benchmark in all aspects of the college. The Steering Committee of IQAC, is instrumental in planning and monitoring quality assurance and quality enhancement of the college in its strive towards academic excellence.

Admission CommitteeThe admission committee headed by the principal, Vice-principal and HoDs monitors the overall admission process, whose decision on these issues is final and binding.

Internal EvaluationAssessment of the students is done through tests, assignments, project works, seminars, peer teaching, the outcome of which is used as a basis for identifying and providing extra care to slow learners through remedial classes.

AttendanceAttendance percentage of every student is monitored monthly. Parents/ guardians of students performing poorly and failing to get the University prescribed 75% in class attendance are called by the principal to ascertain the reason for irregularity.

Mentoring, Students Counseling and Career Guidance Cell To make the students academically and socially integrated, this cell plans out a systematic mentoring program every year to encourage and assure that every student has a faculty (mentor) to fall back on or consult in time of need. It also organizes seminars on mental health from time to time, career oriented programs/ interactions with professionals for the final year students to keep them abreast with up-to-date employment trends and options and to help strengthen their decision making skills.

1. Hostellers are required to attend classes regularly. No one is allowed to be in the hostel during class hours.2. Hostellers going out during the day must fill in the details in the day—out register. It is also mandatory to

sign while returning.3. Hostel|ers must be in the hostel positively by 5:30 pm summer and 5:00 pm winter. Not adhering to these

rules may lead to expulsion from the hostel which would automatically mean expulsion from the college.4. Leave can be availed during weekends with the permission at the warden. However it must be applied for in

Non Teaching Staff

Kohima college seeks to produce well rounded and versatile students. Recognising that each student has different talents, the college views extra-curricular activities as a means of providing opportunities for students to develop their abilities in various endeavours. The college has a number of extension activities to promote participation of the students and teachers in social and community concerns.

1. Students Welfare Committee- The committee is responsible for the overall supervision of the Kohima College Student's Council, which is the only recognized students' body of Kohima College. It oversees the day to day activities of the student community by assisting them through suggestions and advice whenever required. . It also engages the students in community services. Above all, it monitors every decision that is taken by the student's council

E.U, NCC, NSS, Red Ribbon Club, Red Cross, Skill Development, Legal Aid Clinic, Friends of Nature Club, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan - The students are encouraged to participate in these different cells which represents the full diversity of students' needs and interests, at the same time promotes personality and leadership developments in the students.

Grievance Cell – This cell was set up to address problems and complaints of the students regarding academic matters and other issues with regard to student's welfare through the college authorities. Suggestion boxes are placed in the college through which the students express their suggestions and grievances

th4. Alumni Association- Formed on 29 of August 2011, the Association facilitates reunion of all its past pupils to establish a sense of belongingness among the ex-students. The Alumni Association is a platform for the Alumni to voice their expert and experience views and provide an avenue for their active participation in the development of the institution. The association's purpose is to be a strong and dependable pillar for the college to mentor and generate sincere, committed participation of all, in all its developmental activities.

5. Anti Raging/Anti discriminatory Cell- This cell is empowered to take disciplinary action against any student(s), indulging in ragging, rowdy or indiscipline activities, discriminating on the basis of race, sex, religion, disability etc. which causes or likely to cause annoyance, hardship or psychological harm or fear thereof in any fresher or any other student.

6. Anti Sexual Harassment Cell- As per UGC, NAAC and Supreme Court guidelines, Kohima College has constituted this cell within the college premises with the core objective to create a safe, healthy and congenial academic environment for both staff and students alike, free from gender based discrimination and sexual harassment. It organizes gender sensitization programs/redresses any complaints of sexual harassment.

7. Parent –Teacher Association-To facilitate and encourage parental participation in KCK, the PTA is formed.

8. Research activities -This cell strives to nurture research culture in the Institute by promoting research activities on emerging trends, keeping in view a multidisciplinary facet. It also aims to create awareness and opportunity in research and development among faculty and students. It publishes Impressions, the annual research journal.

9. Women Cell- the women cell organises various women oriented programmes such as cooking/ baking classes, basketry and etiquette classes, talks on health and women related issues

Political Science Department Award This is awarded to the highest scorer in Political Science (honours) in the University exam with the following criteria-
