March 2020
Vol. LII No. 1 & 2 & 3
Grand Knight’s Message
Order-wide less than 50% of our members are becoming 3rd Degree Knights! Beginning January 1st Councils will have the option for candidates to take a combined degree which will still impart the Principles of Charity, Unity, and Fraternity. He would then be eligible to become a Council Officer, a dele-gate to the State Convention and/or a candidate for the Patriotic 4th Degree. This new degree format eliminates secrecy – can-didates may choose to bring their wives, family and friends. Family involvement is an integral part of our Order’s Faith in Action Program. Implementing this combined Degree is a solemn undertaking. As of this writing no specific information on the status of current 2nd (FORMATION) and 3rd (KNIGHTHOOD) DEGREE members has been forth-coming. While the combined degree change on the heels of the new Fourth Degree regalia may seem drastic, the Supreme Council deemed them necessary to our Order’s growth and perhaps even its survival. In 1882 Fr. Michael J. McGivney had a dream. Now, 138 years later, it would behoove ALL BROTH-ER KNIGHTS to keep his DREAM ALIVE!
Vivat Jesu! GK Tim Nighbor

Cards and Games Social Wrap-Up
Despite favorable weather attendance was down but those present fully enjoyed the "chili bar," snacks, beverages and the light lunch, while playing their favorite games with family and friends. Many showed their support of our Scholarship Fund and of Troop 7's need for replacing camping equipment by participating in the Wine & Spirits and 25-15-10 Cash Raffles. This generosity resulted in proceeds just under $1000 which was augmented by several anonymous donations. A sincere thank you to all who patronized this important fundraiser! Special thanks to Ralph Boeckl, Bob Moranski, Herb Phelps, Norb Whittle, along with Peter & Al-ice Schulteis for setting up the South Hall. Chili makers Bill Bergeron, Barbara Kreiter, Bob Moranski, Alice Schulteis Jennifer Vaclav & Dorothy Whittle, Group Ticket Seller JoAnn Mattefs all made important contributions. The assistance of the staff at Our Lady of Good Hope is hereby gratefully recognized. Thanks also to Scout Troop 7 for setting up the “snack/beverage bar”, and donating a beautiful Christmas wreath as special door prize.
Editor's note: In appreciation for the volunteer ef-
forts of Troop 7's scout leaders Council #6646 was
pleased to donate $300 toward the troop's operating
expenses. This event also funded $250 scholar-
ships for 2 NWC graduates who go on to Catholic
high schools.
Despite his many Archdiocesan duties our Chaplain Fr.
Greg Greiten continues his total commitment to the Hon-
duras Missionary Outreach. A heartwarming summary of his efforts is enclosed – hopefully you will support this worthy cause with a tax deductible donation.

Pro-Life Potpourri
Day of the Unborn
March 25th, the Feast of the Annunciation, re-minds us that the life of Jesus, like the life of each human being, unique and unrepeatable, began at the moment of conception. Thus, "the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us," when Mary re-sponded, "Be it done unto me according to Thy word." On Wednesday, March 25, 2020, we will gath-er at St. Catherine of Alexandria Parish (76th Pl.), a most appropriate church for our annual Pro-Life Prayer Service. Its beautiful statue of the Blessed Mother focuses our attention as we pray for the many victims of abortion – the defenseless babies, their mothers and fathers. At 7:00 PM we’ll begin with a special Pro-Life Rosary followed by the Sta-tions of the Cross for the Victims of ABORTION. The season of LENT is the perfect time to seek Mary’s intercession in the battle against the Culture of Death!
Precious Feet Dr. Russell Sacco, a urologist was between sur-geries at the Portland hospital when he began talk-ing with a pathologist tasked with destroying the bodies of aborted babies. Horrified and saddened, by their conversation, Dr. Sacco followed the pathologist to his office and was shown buckets filled with the preserved bodies of perfect tiny babies. He could not bear to destroy them, so he kept them. Overwhelmed by the loss of these babies, Dr. Sacco took a bucket home with the hope of using photos to teach others the truth about abortion. “I was crying the whole time I was taking the photos”. In one of them he held the tiny feet of an unborn ba-by between his fingers. “I knew God took that photo because it was so impactful. It impelled me save lives…” Soon after taking the photos Dr. Sacco trav-eled to schools to teach the truth – that unborn ba-bies are not “blobs of tissue.” (This outrageous LIE is often used by abortionists to convince preg-nant women to destroy their babies.) He also spoke on radio and television. While Pro-Choice leaders viciously vilified him, Virginia Evers saw Dr. Sacco’s photograph in the newspaper and created the “Precious Feet” pin which has become an inter-national Pro-Life symbol. Dr. Sacco, a Wisconsin native, died of cancer on June 4, 2019. Dan Miller, state director of Pro-Life Wisconsin, attests that his “…legacy to end abortion will live on through the 200 million Precious Feet pins now circulating around the world. They cross all religious denominations, and there is something so simple, pure and beautiful about these feet that are made in God’s image.” In her tribute to Dr. Sac-co, Lois Anderson, Oregon’s Right to Life director, said, “He inspired us to use science to show
TRUTH. This is a especially important in Oregon where a very low percentage of people attend church or profess a faith at all.” Because of his strong Catholic faith, Dr. Sacco realized that HUMANIZING the PREBORN child is the only way we will ever effectively end ABOR-TION in America.
Editor’s notes: Dan Miller, a Brother Knight is also the Culture of Life director for Wisconsin State Coun-cil. He never leaves home without wearing his Pre-cious Feet pin. This article was based on “Precious Feet” written by Karen Mahoney in the Fall, 2019 issue of Cele-brate Life magazine
Prayer for the Helpless Unborn
Heavenly Father, in Your love for
us, protect against the wickedness
of the devil, those helpless little
ones to whom You have given the
gift of life.
Touch with pity the hearts of those
pregnant women in our world today
who are not thinking of
motherhood,
Help them to see that the child they
carry is made in Your image—as
well at theirs—made for eternal
life.
Dispel their fear and selfishness
and give them true womanly hearts
to love their babies and give them
birth and all the needed care that a
mother alone can give.
We ask this through Jesus Christ,
Your Son, Our Lord, who lives and
reigns with You and the Holy spirit,
one God, forever and ever, Amen.
