We welcomed four new members to the council

last month! Each completed both the Admission

Degree and the Formation Degree at Our Lady of

Lourdes Council. All four members are parish-

ioners of St. Joseph Church.

Andrew Clarke, his wife, Sa-

mantha, and their three children,

Annemarie (4), Liam (2) and ba-

by Ellie live in Lebanon Town-

ship. Andrew is employed by

Lafayette College in Easton.

Andrew and Samantha are Lec-

tors at St. Joseph Church.

Tom Creelman and his wife, Carol, live in

High Bridge. Tom is an engi-

neer with PS&S Engineering in

Warren. Carol is a Lector at St.

Joseph Church. They have two

young adult children, Joshua and

Ian.

We are fortunate to have another

father-son duo! Damian Rigatti is

a physician at the Pleasant Run

practice. He is an Usher and

member of the Finance Council at

St. Joseph Church.

Damian’s son Luke is employed

by Stop n Shop. The Rigatti

family lives in High Bridge and

includes wife/mom, Janet, and

daughter/sister, Julia, who was a

2016 beneficiary of our scholar-

ship program.

Congratulations to brother Bob

Sepe on achieving the status of

Honorary Life Member. That sta-

tus is applied to all priests who are

members and to other members

who achieve 25 or more years of

continuous service in the Order and

have reached their 70th birthday.

See all of our Life Members at www.kofc10627.org/honorary-

Reminder to members!!!!

Thanks to the generosity of St. Joseph council members and to brothers

Jim Codd and Community Director Jim McCloskey

who teamed up to lead the effort, a bunch of boys and

girls have new winter coats! The council purchased

two cases of coats for girls ages to 6 and boys ages 4 to 7. Jim & Jim de-

livered them to Life Choices in Phillipsburg where they were distributed to

kids who need them.

Our council is one

of hundreds that

participate in the

Order’s Coats for

Kids activity.

The data used by the Supreme Council to prepare the reports that we see in Columbia Magazine and else-

where about the great work Knights perform around the world comes from our Fraternal Activity Re-

ports. Those annual reports include both the value of each council’s money contributions, and the value

of the work we Knights do in charitable and fraternal service work in council activities and as individu-

als. The economic value of what we do is significant and important to the Order!

According to Independent Sector, a nationwide coalition of charities, foundations, corporations, and

individuals, one hour of volunteer time is worth nearly $30 in New Jersey! For example, when any

of us serves at a one-hour mass as a Eucharistic Minister, or every time we help with Offertory collec-

tion—the economic value is nearly $30! That really adds up but in order for it to be useful to the Order,

we members must provide our information to the council!

You can complete your report at www.kofc10627.org/fraternal-activity-survey (sample below)

An estimate is all the council needs – just the total hours in each category. Here are some of exam-

ples of Volunteer Service to consider for Faith in Action Program Activities:

Faith Activities: Religious Education, Eucharistic Minister, Lector, Usher, Choir/Cantor, Parish Break-

fasts, Picnics, Suppers, Parish Maintenance, etc.

Family Activities: Food for Fami-

lies program, Family Week, other

parish family events, Youth Minis-

try, Spelling Bees, etc.

Community Activities: Intellectu-

ally Disabled (ARC) work, Civic

Work, Environmental Work, Youth

Athletics (Free Throw, Soccer Chal-

lenge, coaching, officiating, etc.);

Scholarships, Scouting, Coats for

Kids, Veteran/Military service ac-

tivities, etc.

Life Activities: Special Olympics,

Life Choices & other pregnancy

support, March for Life, Rally for

Life, etc.

Fraternal Service Activities: Our service to the Council and to other members.

If we fail to report the time we devote to

doing good work, we are missing an

opportunity to help the Order!

George Carlin’s Views on Aging!

“George Carlin’s Views on Aging” began circulating

on the Internet in November 2002. In 2004, a Chicago

Daily Herald article asserted that the “Author of the

tips for staying young is unknown.” (Whether George

authored them or not, doesn’t detract!)

----------------------------------------------------

Do you realize that the only time in our lives when we

like to get old is when we're kids? If you're less than

10 years old, you're so excited about aging that you

think in fractions.

'How old are you?' ' I’M FOUR AN A HALF!'

You're never thirty-six and a half. You're four and a

half, going on five! That's the key.

You GET INTO YOUR TEENS. 'How old are

you?' I’M GONNA BE 16!' You could be 13, but

hey, you're ‘gonna be 16’! And then the greatest day

of your life!

You BECOME 21. Even the words sound like a cere-

mony. You BECOME 21. YESSSS!!!

But then you TURN 30. Oooohh, what happened

there? Makes you sound like bad milk! He

TURNED; we had to throw him out. There's no fun

now, you're just a sour-dumpling. What's wrong?

What's changed?

You BECOME 21, you TURN 30, then you're

PUSHING 40. Whoa! Put on the brakes, it's all slip-

ping away. Before you know it, you REACH 50, and

your dreams are gone....

But! wait!! You MAKE IT TO 60. You didn't think

you would!

So……you BECOME 21, TURN 30, PUSH 40,

REACH 50, and YOU MAKE IT TO 60. You've

built up so much speed that you HIT 70! After that,

it's a day-by-day thing; you HIT Wednesday!

You GET INTO YOUR 80's, and every day is a

complete cycle; you HIT lunch; you TURN 4:30; you

REACH bedtime. And it doesn't end there. Into the

90s, you start going backwards; 'I Was JUST 92.'

Then a strange thing happens.. If you MAKE IT TO

OVER 100, you become a little kid again. 'I'm 100

and a half!'

May you all make it to a healthy 100 and a half!!

Enjoy the ride. There is no return ticket.
