Sick Students Please keep your children at home if they are displaying any cold or flu-like symptoms. We understand this is very difficult for parents as you return to work and as children begin to pick up the winter colds, but these regulations must be abided, for the safety and wellbeing of ALL students and the community. It is recommended that parents take their children for a COVID assessment when the symptoms are displayed. Pick up and Drop off Thank you to everyone for your cooperation in picking up and dropping off students. Please be aware that Sutherland Council rangers are monitoring the drop-off zones.

Future Learning Programs (covid 19 period) Except for maintenance people, all non Department of Education staff, are not allowed to enter a school. School assemblies, sport skill development programs (Fit Futures), dance, music tutors, external private therapists, community use of school facilities (meetings, etc.) debating, public speaking, scripture, will commence in Term Three. As a result, until this restriction is lifted, no training/learning will take place in the targeted areas.

Updating Family Details and Emergency Contacts It is crucial that the school has up to date family details, including emergency contacts especially at this time when there have been many changes to normal procedures. If your family details, address, phone numbers or emergency contacts have changed please contact the office via phone or email as soon as possible to provide the updates.

Uniform Reminder Kirrawee Public School has a proud tradition of high uniform standards and the school community would like to maintain this great reputation. Students should now be wearing full winter school uniform. Our uniform ordering system is online through Flexischools. I expect all our children to wear their black shoes (if leather polished) Remember that coloured sneakers are only permitted on sport days and coloured socks are not part of our uniform. Navy ribbons/bows are acceptable hair accessories.

Message from the Leadership Team (student leaders) On behalf of the leadership team, we'd like to thank all the staff at Kirrawee Public School for being there for us, through these challenging times over the last few months. Thank you for providing us work day by day. Now that all students are back at school, we have been able to catch up on many weeks that we have missed opportunities with many of our friends. We are happy to be back and our teachers are happy, as we are now back to face to face learning again. We are happy to be back with new and improved facilities, for example, the canteen is now getting renovated and will open on Wednesday 24 June 2020.

EARLY STAGE 1 REPORT Can you believe we are already going into Week 8? This term has been filled to the brim with twists and turns and it has been absolutely fantastic to see our wonderful Kindergarten students returning to the classroom routine. Students have been diligent in their proper hygiene procedures, and are always quick to remember when to wash our hands and the correct handwashing procedure. Well done Kindergarten!

We have been working to our best ability in our small guided reading and writing groups in class. It has been marvelous seeing our students working hard on their sight words, especially through the word wall booklets which we have been using to broaden vocabulary in reading and writing. Please keep it up! A reminder that note folders need to be brought in daily to ensure that any important notices or information can get home directly. The home learning folders only need to be brought in when changing home reader books and on Fridays,

please make sure that the word wall books are coming in on the Friday so that students can work through their words at the appropriate level. We look forward to seeing what the rest of the term brings!

STAGE 1 REPORT The Stage 1 teacher would like to thank all the parents who participated in the Parent Teacher Interviews last week. Although they were structured differently to the interviews conducted in the past, we found them to be an extremely valuable and insightful experience. All the stage 1 students have continued to work hard in class, independently and through group work to further their understanding of the required concepts. At this stage, formal assemblies will not recommence until Term 3. However awards will still be presented to students in the classroom.

STAGE 2 REPORT

It has been fantastic to have everyone back to full time school for the last two weeks! Although it has been a disrupted term, everyone has settled back into the school routine very well and we are continuing with our learning. Our theme for Term 2 is Into the Unknown which covers such topics as Australian symbols, navigation and exploration. The unit also covers interesting aspects about explorers and their voyages. This will go hand in hand with our writing unit for this term which is Informative Texts. Students will use their research skills to create notes and then turn those facts into their own Informative Text.

Currently for technology, Stage 2 is experimenting with Dashbots and learning about their features, functions and how to program them to complete tasks.

We are learning about multiplication and division concepts at the moment which will build on the place value, subtraction and addition methods we have already learnt. Home Learning is back to normal now so please check your child’s home learning book. Some classes may also have activities in Google Classroom. Just a reminder that Matific, Type Club and Literacy Planet are fantastic programs aimed to help children revise, improve and extend on what they learn in class, so please try to log on to them a few times a week. Thank you to all those parents who participated in our modified parent teacher interviews. We hope it was as helpful and informative for you as it was for us. Hopefully we can have a face to face conversation sometime soon. Thank you again for your continued support and cooperation. Stage Two Teachers. Mrs Amy Fulmer, Ms Amanda Tucci, Mr Neal Culkin & Mr Patrick Morgan

STAGE 3 REPORT

Stage Three are now well and truly back into the swing of things in the classroom, showing a great level of engagement in their classwork. We have continued our work on Colonial Australia, and over the last couple of weeks our main focus has turned towards Gold and Australian Gold Rush. The kids are loving our educational game ‘The Gold Game’ which is giving them a great insight into the day to day operations of the gold fields and all the highs and lows for a miner trying to strike it rich. A little over a week ago both 5/6M and 5/6OS had a bushranger storm into their towns and multiple robberies and hold ups were made. The bushranger is still on the run and there is a wanted notice with a reward out for him.

If you have any details to share with authorities, please contact the Chief Commissioner Mr William “Bill” Blackburn. Over the last week, students have also

been in the process of writing a script to be able to tell the story of their dioramas that we told you about in the previous newsletter. We are so impressed with the amazing detail shown in these dioramas that are representing a snapshot scene from Colonial Australia. Thank you parents and carers for your time last week during our Parent Teacher Interviews. It was great receiving all your feedback and insight about how you felt your children engaged during, and coped with the remote learning time over the end of Term 1 and first half of Term 2. Thank you all for your ongoing support.

Regards, Stage Three Teachers

SUPPORT UNIT REPORT Welcome to K/6C’s mini city! Last week K/6C learnt about natural and built environments and how some places have changed over time. We really enjoyed working together to build a built environment. We had homes, hotels, buildings, roads, and a hospital, park, carpark and even a Japanese and pizza restaurant!
