Important information about your qualifications Importance of the early years International research has demonstrated that quality early learning experiences are essential in supporting children’s development and building skills for life-long learning. Tasmanian kindergartens continue to align with the requirements of the National Quality Framework (NQF) in providing quality early learning environments for children. Why should I check my qualifications? Well-qualified and knowledgeable early childhood professionals extend children’s learning through implementing the Early Years Learning Framework. From 2018, all teacher assistants in kindergartens will be required to update their qualification to an Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) approved qualification or be actively working towards obtaining the qualification. ACECQA is responsible for assessing and approving these qualifications. Where do I go for more information about qualifications? ACECQA’s qualifications webpage describes an overview of requirements: http://www.acecqa.gov.au/educators-and- providers1/qualifications How do I know if my qualification is approved by ACECQA? Teacher assistants must hold, or be actively working towards, a minimum of an approved Certificate III or an approved higher level qualification. ACECQA’s website hosts lists of approved and former approved qualifications. ACECQA’s website hosts a Qualifications Checker, which can be used to determine if your qualification is recognised: http://www.acecqa.gov.au/qualifications-checker Teacher Assistants can also search qualifications by visiting http://www.acecqa.gov.au/Qualifications.aspx. These lists can be searched by level of qualification (i.e. Diploma, Certificate III) or by key word. For example, adding ‘Tasmania’ would show all of the approved or former approved* qualifications offered by Tasmanian institutions, as well as qualifications that can be awarded by any Australian registered training organisation.
