RPL or Recognition of Prior Learning is a way for students to have their existing skills and knowledge recognised. RPL is generally quicker, easier and cheaper. Generally this means that there is no training involved – students go straight to demonstrating competence and are not ‘taught’ anything by the assessor.

For example, Sarah has worked as an teacher aide for 6 years and enrols in the CHC30213 Certificate III in Education Support by RPL. Sarah is a good candidate for RPL as she probably already knows everything from the
