Smart Social Media –
Knowing what your kids are doing
onlineand helping protect
their brand.
Your Child’s Personal Brand
• Identify your personal values first
• Sexy pictures?
• Offensive language?
• Demeaning and negative posts to others?
• Encouraging strangers
to connect?
Kids have jumped technology
What parents remember..
This is what kids know-
Wifi enabled
• Ipod touch
• Kindle Fire
• Ipads
• Tablets
Just because your kids can’t make calls..
Does not mean they can’t get on a social network.
Easy Access
• Your child is supposed to be 13 years old to get their own account.
• All a child needs is an email address and a screen name.
• Once “discovered” its very easy for the child to open up a new account under another name on Instagram, where Facebook requires one name/one email.
Talk to your kids EARLY
• Kids are finding how to get onto social networks from their friends
• They don’t know how to behave online
• They are open to bullying behavior by others and then respond in kind.
• By using hashtags (#) they can discover disturbing content
