1. Introduction
1.1 What is Project Learning?
� Project learning requires students to investigate into a theme and to use proper research
methods for investigation.
� During the process of project learning, students will have an in-depth understanding of
a particular theme or topic. Moreover, students can cultivate their thinking skills,
self-learning skills and generic skills (including collaboration skills, communication
skills, problem-solving skills, study skills, information technology skills, creativity,
self-management skills, critical thinking skills, and numeracy skills).
1.2 Theme of Project Learning: Healthy lifestyles or environmental protection
practices of Hong Kong teenagers
� Form 3 students have to choose a project topic related to healthy lifestyles or
environmental protection practices of Hong Kong teenagers.
� Examples of project topics:
� HK teenagers and stress: sources of stress, impact of stress, and ways to tackle
stress
� Eating habits of HK teenagers and their impact on health
� The attitude and habits of using plastic bags of Hong Kong teenagers
� The energy saving practices of Hong Kong teenagers
� Students can use flexibly knowledge and skills learnt from different subjects to
investigate into their own project topics.
� English: making PowerPoint and doing oral presentations in English
� Mathematics: comprehending statistics and charts
� Liberal Studies: public health, sustainable development
� Science: conservation of natural resources, environmental pollution, healthy bodies
� Geography: conservation, sustainability, environmental pollution and protection
� Home Economics: diet and health, physical fitness, consumer decisions
� Computer Literacy: searching online information, making PowerPoint
1.3 Formation of Groups
� There are 4 to 6 students in each group.
� A teacher advisor will be assigned to each group.
1.4 Products of Project Learning
� Each group must (1) give an oral presentation and (2) hand in a presentation
PowerPoint.

1.5 Language
� Students have to give an oral presentation and make a presentation PowerPoint in
English.
2. Requirement & Assessment
2.1 Oral Presentation
� Students must use PowerPoint to do oral presentations. Students may also use
different ways of presentation, including short dramas and videos etc.
� Each group has 8 minutes for the oral presentation.
� Regarding specific requirements, please refer to the Oral Presentation Assessment
Form.
2.2 Presentation PowerPoint
� Format: The presentation PowerPoint should be printed on A4-sized paper.
� The presentation PowerPoint should include the following items:
� Cover Page (including the project topic and the group particulars)
� Presentation Outline
� Introduction (including purposes, research questions, and target group of the
project)
� Literature Review
� Data Collection Method
� Findings
� Discussion, Conclusion, and Suggestion
� Major References
2.3 Assessment
� The weighting of assessment items is shown in the Summary Score Sheet (page 23).
� For details of assessment, please refer to Assessment Forms (Appendix 4 to 9).
� A grade (A* – H) will be given for the overall performance of every student in Project
Learning.
* The passing grade is Grade E.

� Teacher advisors distribute and introduce the Students’ Handbook.
� Students fill in the Students’ Handbook with personal particulars.

� Groups seek advices from teacher advisors, modify the Project
Proposal Form and the Working Plan Form, and report the research
progress.
� Teacher advisors fill in the Research Progress Assessment Form I
(Appendix 4, p.13).

� Liberal Studies Teachers select the Most Outstanding Project of
each class and hand in those projects to the Advisor Leader (Miss
Lai Pui Lam) on or before June 22, 2012.
Jul, 2012 Students present what they have studied
� The Advisor Leader selects the Most Outstanding Project of the
Form on or before June 27, 2012.
� The Advisor Leader notifies the group who wrote the Most
Outstanding Project of the Form that they have to prepare for an oral
presentation in the Hall during the Post-examination Activity.
� LS Teachers input grades obtained in Project Learning into the
School Report Card System on or before July 3, 2012.
� LS Teachers distribute Presentation PowerPoints and Students’
Handbooks to students.
