From Monday, Week 3, Term 2 (11 May 2020) most students at Kingscliff High School will begin returning to school. Year 12 started back at school full time, except for Wednesdays, on 4 May 2020 and Year 11 will start back full time, except for Wednesdays, starting on Monday 11 May 2020. Years 7, 8, 9 and 10 will return gradually one (1) day per week as a part of Phase 1 of the NSW Department of Education’s “Managed Return to School” Guidelines (see Appendix 1).

What will this look like? Students will follow their “Phase 1 Managed Return to School Curriculum Delivery” timetable which was communicated to parents, carers and students at the end of term 1 (see Appendix 2) timetable 1 day per week.

The Phase 1 Student Schedule of attendance is as follows:

Monday Surnames from A to D + Years 11 and 12 (No Period zero) Tuesday Surnames from F to L + Years 11 and 12 (No Period zero) Wednesday All students learning from home Thursday Surnames from M to R + Years 11 and 12 (No Period zero) Friday Surnames from S to Z + Years 11 and 12 (No Period zero)

We have divided students in this way according to NSW Department of Education (DoE) advice asking schools to group siblings and families. Families that have siblings with different surnames should call the school to make mutually suitable arrangements for the day of attendance.

Junior students not rostered to attend school should continue studying from home, as will all students on Wednesdays.

My child is in the Support Unit, what days do they attend? Supervision arrangements have been made so that students in the support unit are welcomed to attend as often as parents feel confident to do so. Further information can be obtained from Mrs Rosser, Head Teacher – Special Education.

What will my lessons look like? When you attend, you will complete the same unit of work which has been prepared for online learning at home. Teachers will not be creating separate units of work for face to face delivery. Years 11 and 12 students will be in normal lessons.

Students will be divided into separate spaces depending on the number who attend and the size of the space. This is based on a 4 square metre per student ratio. Rolls will be marked during all periods and at the beginning of the day.

Students in Years 7-10 will not be participating in any practical lessons. Students in Years 11 and 12 will be participating in all of their lessons (except Wednesdays).

It is important that when entering and exiting learning spaces at school students adhere to social distancing guidelines and follow markings showing entry and exit points as they navigate the school.

What do I need to bring? If you have a device, please bring it along with its charger, we have computers for students to use at school however there may not be enough to go around. We would also ask all students, even if they are not bringing their own device, TO BRING A SET OF HEADPHONES. You should also bring your books, pens and physical work packages you have been working on.

Students are also encouraged to bring their own hand sanitiser. Students should bring their own water bottle and not drink from the bubblers.

Are the buses running? Yes, buses are running. In Phase 1 the smaller number of students should enable social distancing measures to be adhered to on the buses. Students will be required to social distance when lining up and moving to the buses at the end of the day. We acknowledge that student numbers will increase in coming phases. Kingscliff High School is working with Surfside Bus Company to put measures in place to continue to support social distancing on buses.

Do I need to attend roll call? Yes! However, roll call will look a little different with students being divided into groups at the beginning of the day. You will be given instructions after you arrive at school as to where to go for roll call. While at roll call you will be directed to the learning space at which you will be spending the day.

What about roll call for seniors? Year 11 and 12 students will have roll call at the beginning of the day in the same way junior students do. Remember there are no zero periods.

Year 11 and 12 students who have late starts do not have to attend roll call. They can sign in through the front office before their first period begins.

Can seniors leave after their last period? Yes. Seniors will not be required to be at school if they do not have a class. Seniors can leave after their last timetabled period. They must sign out through the front office before leaving if they do not have a class in the Midday session.

Should I wear my uniform? Yes. Full school uniform is required. The uniform shop is open on Wednesday and Friday mornings from 9:00am to 11:00am. It is starting to get colder, so be prepared.

Will the canteen be open? Yes, however, we are not sure how many students will attend, so we cannot guarantee food will be available. To be safe order your food before school so you don’t miss out. If you are worried pack some just food in case.

Will I be able to take my medication at school? Students who have completed the necessary paperwork will still be able to take their required medication at school. Our First Aid Officers will be present five days per week.

How will I know what rooms to go to? During roll call students will be informed of the learning spaces they will be attending during the day. They will be in the same space all day.

What’s happening with assessment tasks? At this stage, all Year 7-10 formal assessment tasks have been put on hold. All HSC students have been given amended assessment schedules during Week 10 of last term. Year 11 assessment schedule continues as planned, however the nature of some of the tasks may change. Teachers will communicate these changes with students

I haven’t completed my HSC Minimum Standards Testing. Minimum Standards testing will be arranged for this term when we have a little more certainty of what the term will look like.

Do Year 11 and 12 students still have study periods? Yes. However, since our “Phase 1 School Curriculum Delivery” timetable now has 2 long lessons a day (see Appendix 2), if you have a study period during the first session of the day you can arrive at school late and if you have a study period during the second session you can leave school early (don’t forget to sign in and out through the front office). Don’t forget you can contact your teachers electronically after 2:15pm for guidance.

I have requested a work package, can I collect it on the day I attend? Yes. You can pick up your work package on your scheduled day before roll call from the tables at the front of the school.

Note that we have many requested work packages that are yet to be picked up.

Can I hand in my work package when I attend? Yes, work packages with a name clearly labelled on the front can be returned to the front office.

What will lunchtime and recess look like? Limited playground areas will be available. Students will be required to social distance and will receive reminders over the PA. Students will not be permitted to share sporting equipment.

As mentioned earlier, the canteen will be open, however food supplies cannot be guaranteed. Students will be required to follow social distancing markings on the ground in the canteen areas.

Students will not be able to use the bubblers. Students should bring their own water bottle.

Can I attend if I am unwell? No. If you are unwell, stay home. If you come to school and are unwell, your parents, carers and emergency contacts will be called to collect you.

What happens if my family decide it is best for me to stay home? That’s fine. As long as you are engaging in online work through Google Classroom or physical work packages, you will be marked as flexible attendance (not absent). Please get a parent or caregiver to contact the front office to let us know.

When will school return to normal? We’re not sure how long Phase 1 will continue for, but we will let you know as soon as we can! We are forward planning in preparation for the next phase or to be moved back into Phase 0. See the Appendix 1 below (A Managed Return to School) for each phase.
