Background about the Kewill-OTM solution

¡  Kewill Flagship is a shipping solution.

¡  Oracle and Kewill have developed an integration of Kewill Flagship to OTM.

¡  The combined solution provides OTM customers with enhanced capabilities for quoting, rating, and manifesting for small parcel shipping.

¡  Oracle worked with Kewill to develop an API for rating. According to Oracle, both Kewill and Oracle will continue to work together to enhance the solution.

Key Capabilities of Kewill-OTM Solution

Kewill compliments OTM by expanding upon OTM’s core capabilities and providing expanded functionality in the following areas:

¡  Improved rating capabilities for Parcel Freight –  Kewill Flagship integrates with OTM so that during order planning OTM calls out to

Kewill to provide parcel rates and service times.

¡  Generation of tracking numbers and labels for parcel shipments

¡  Generation of export declaration and hazmat documents.

¡  Parcel carrier tracking and proof-of-delivery

Kewill Configuration

¡  Kewill is typically installed and configured by the Kewill organization and their consultants. –  Required setups that Kewill manages include carriers, rates, accessorials and source

locations.

Source Location Setup

¡  Kewill is primarily an outbound transportation solution –  When Kewill is implemented, the contract and setup of the Kewill application is based

on source locations of shipping. Each location gets a code in Kewill, so you need to set this up in OTM.

–  Use the Refnum KEWILL_CUST_NUM and the corresponding code provided by Kewill.

Service Providers

¡  Setup Service Providers in accordance to your parcel carriers. These will be the parcel carriers utilized by your company and supported by Kewill. –  Use the Service Provider Alias section. KEWILL CARRIER CODE and the correct Alias

Value are required. •  UPS = UPS •  FedEx = FDX

Rate Service

¡  Setup a rate service for each service level you use from your parcel carrier. –  FedEx and UPS offer many different kinds of service. For example, our client has 12

different service types for FedEx. –  Setup these rate services exactly as how they are setup in Kewill. Examples include:

•  FedEx Ground = GND •  UPS Ground = GND •  FedEx Priority = PRI •  UPS Next Day Air AM = NDAE

Rate Offering

Setup a rate offering for each unique parcel carrier/rate service combination.

Key Setups and Recommendations

¡  Name the rate offering to specify the carrier and service level (not required, but helpful).

¡  If there is a key distinction between parcel air services and parcel ground, create new modes for each one.

¡  Create a new Offering Type that contains the External Rating Engine and Package Count is determined by: fields.

¡  For the Package Count is determined by: field, specify U – Ship Units if you want to rate at the ship unit level. Select Line Items to rate at the line item level.

¡  Accessorials are not required and are setup in planning paramaters.

Rate Record

Setup at least one rate record for each rate offering.

Key Setups and Recommendations

¡  If there is no real distinction between where you offer service, setup country to country rates or location to country rates.

¡  The only setup for the rate itself is to select KEWILL as the External Rating Engine ID.

Planning Parameters

¡  The Rate section of planning parameters requires additional setup for Kewill, specifically around managing accessorial codes. –  Specify the codes that will represent each accessorial. –  These accessorials will also need to be setup in Kewill –  The Fuel accessorial will return in the rate call automatically, others require that the

accessorial code appears on the order release.

Item and Order

¡  Ship unit and item information are key to rating via Kewill. –  Information regarding length, width and height at the ship unit level are required for

rating. –  This information can be generated by pulling from item details within OTM. –  Make sure that dimensional information is correct because it can impact rating.

Hazardous Items

¡  To rate hazardous items, you must populate the hazardous information on the order release line item. –  The following remarks at the order release line must be populated and valid:

•  HAZMAT_QUANTITY •  HAZMAT_UNITS •  HAZMAT_PACKINGINSTRUCTIONS •  HAZMAT_PACKAGETYPE

–  The hazardous detail must be populated and valid as well: •  Integrate this from your item master •  Validate against Kewill •  This can be populated from OTM’s existing hazardous item and hazardous material

objects.

How it all works

¡  At a high level, the overall planning process for Kewill for a direct shipment is relatively consistent with the way OTM plans all shipments. –  OTM qualifies the rate offerings and rate records based on the constraints of the order

and locations. –  OTM sends an API rate call for each qualified parcel rate

•  The more small parcel service offerings available, the more rate calls. –  After all the rate calls are returned, OTM selects the most cost effective rate option that

meets the time window of the order release.

¡  There are, however, some notable exceptions: –  Kewill handles the transit times –  The order release early pickup date or the current time (whichever is later), is the start

time on the API call to Kewill. OTM doesn’t find a best fit for a start time like it does with other modes.

–  End time is also returned by Kewill based on specific transit information from the parcel carriers.

–  Kewill is much more robust in terms of managing holidays and hazardous orders. Kewill is basically an OTM for small parcel in that it manages much of this information inside its own application.

Important Rating Information

¡  Kewill rates at the ship unit or ship unit line level, not the overall order release. –  Kewill does not look at the overall weight and contents of the order, but rather the

contents of the ship unit or ship unit line. –  Kewill does this because each ship unit represents a shippable unit – in this case a box.

FedEx and UPS both charge at the box level, so two boxes going to the same place on the same day actually would be rated separately.

–  If you want to rate at the order level, set your rate offerings to rate at the ship unit level, and then set up your order releases to have one ship unit containing all the contents as lines under the ship unit.

¡  Hazardous Rating: –  FedEx and UPS both have hazardous constraints that Kewill manages. –  Besides performing hazardous characteristic checks, Kewill will also prevent rating if

there are more than the allotted hazardous items contained within a ship unit. •  Kewill makes no distinction between like items during this rating. So FedEx and UPS

limits corresponding to the max number of unique hazardous items per box will come into play during rating.

Key Challenges

¡  Hazardous Rating –  UPS and FedEx have different hazardous requirements and regulations. –  Hazardous values must be correct and the rules can often change.

¡  Managing Dates –  The early pickup date approach of the Kewill solution makes managing off delivery date

difficult.

¡  Cartonization –  Identifying and estimating how many boxes per order release is a challenge
