Master of Divinity Degree. Kevin and Taylor both have a heart for missions, music,

teaching, and sharing the Gospel.

Thank you to our Personnel Team who for the past two years have expressed great commitment and diligence in their search for our Children’s Minister.

The deacon ministry at Simpsonville Baptist is based on biblical servant leadership principles and virtues. Since the early 1980’s, our deacon ministry no longer functions as a “board” where all reports are given or all decisions are made.

The deacon ministry team has been reviewing their scope of ministry to the church and community. Below you will find considerations from a deacon ad hoc study group and from discussion in deacon meetings. Some examples are provided but not exhaustive of kinds of ministry. Deacon Ministry Scope Considerations Crisis/Intervention ministry: Divorce care, Grief care, Family crisis intervention, and hospitals (as needed) Communication: important vision information to the church via S.S. Classes Coordination of certain worship and ministry projects: Thanksgiving meal Connection: Connect with guests in the church. Communion: serve communion Community projects: Deacon group ministry in the community Cooperation: Partner with ministry staff and church leadership as peacemakers in challenging ministry

events and decisions. Partners with the ministry staff by functioning in an advisory capacity. After further discussion with the deacon ministry, a recommendation will come to the church ministry meeting for discussion and adoption on any revision of deacon ministry scope. Let me encourage your participation in nominating and selecting deacons and yokefellow. You will find information on page seven in this newsletter guiding you in our process of deacon and yokefellow selec-tion. Please give attention to the biblical and church expectations. Pray for the deacon ministry of our church that it will flourish and be a blessing to church and community alike.

Kenya Update Periodically we like to give you updates about the people we served while in Kenya. We announced earlier in the year that Nathan Osimeo, the local veterinarian, has begun a non profit called Ultimate Wings of Power. This non-profit has successfully battled disease and poverty by introducing programs that target empowerment by giving people a means to make a living (sewing and welding), providing funds for educating young people, providing goats and chickens, and initiating jigger eradication programs.

Isimina is a young girl that Nathan took into his home after rescuing her from a forced marriage. Originally a Muslim, she became a believer and completed her education under Nathan’s tutelage. She recently married a Believer and has now been accepted into the police academy! God is creating beautiful stories in Kenya!

This young lady (at right) is an AIDS patient who received the unexpected gift of a goat to help her stay healthy with the milk it produces and help support her family with future off-

tion and for the Common-

on both sides. At least 129 people accepted Jesus Christ

as their personal Savior, mak-

ing a first time profession of

faith. SBC was well represented!

We will be serving with Meridzo Ministries at the Maytown Center in Langley KY. Cost for the trip is $75 per person (maximum $200 per family) which includes meals and lodging.

Highlights of this trip include a Back To School Bash, Clothing Giveaway event and repairs to area homes.

This is a family mission trip. Children and students are welcome to participate with a parent in attendance!

We are collecting food pantry items during the month of June to help restock the food pantry at Meridzo Ministries.

Donations can be taken to the Mission Cove.

Carolyn Morrissey Grandma’s Mission Trip

Sponsored by EKY SONrise Ministries, this trip will be June 22-24 at Haven of Rest, Inez, KY. It is for

grandmothers and their children aged 8-14. This trip will include mission work in the community and

fun events. Limited availability. Please contact Linda Otterback at 243-8003.

We have asked Melissa to give us an update regarding

her work as a missionary serving at Rancho Ebenezer in

Honduras. Please continue to pray for her as she

minister to the children at the ranch.

I am excited to have accepted a new role of Activity Director here at the Ranch in addition to being a counselor and live in caregiver of the children. Each month I organize a major activity for all the children. Thus far we have had a field day, The Amazing Race Rancho Ebenezer style, an Easter

egg hunt and this month a wiener roast with bonfire and a movie to follow!

The ministry I work for is WGO (World Gospel Outreach). They have increased my yearly fees to $30,000, which unfortunately means that I am required to raise $2,500 per month. I am so grateful to those that support me! That amount sounds excessive for one individual but when you consider that gasoline is $4.50 a gallon, toilet paper is $9, and we must use bottled water for drinking it all adds up quickly. We also have 15% sales tax on all purchases! Also due to security issues I must

live in a neighborhood that requires a guard.

The poverty in Honduras is extreme. If you face an illness, there is no insurance to pay for pharmacies and health care. Everything must be paid in cash. Recently my taxista’s wife broke her leg and the orthopedic doctor, trying to save them some money, resorted to digging around in his office drawers for orthopedic screws. One young boy at our orphanage required surgery that was postponed

because there was no anesthetic to be had in the entire country!

I do supply all of my own personal items and if I eat what the children eat I am not required to pay extra for food which helps with my monthly stipend. I do not own a car but rely on a local taxista for my monthly trips to the city. I have been blessed with being able to form a relationship with him and his family. I pay my monthly tithes to a very poor church here called Cristo es mi Roca or “Christ

is My Rock.” Their monthly operating budget including Pastor’s salary is equivalent to $350 US dollars! They are a Bible based church and they have a Compassion International feeding program there. My language school was held there when I first arrived and I noticed that the meal consisted of fried tortilla topped with cheese and salsa. That was it! For most of those children it was all they would eat that day! That is when Christ laid it on my heart to pay my tithes there and help support this church! I have also been able to provide help for an elderly widow who is in ill health and unable to provide for herself and one of recent graduates who is trying to further her education. It is a blessing that I had learned to live frugally in the U.S because now I am able to maintain that frugality and it enables me to bless many here that live in poverty unimaginable to the average American! Our home-

less have access to more amenities than 70 percent of the Honduran population!

I do maintain the cost of an apartment in the city as there is no provided housing for me at the Ranch except when I am living

in the kids homes 5 days a week. At the ranch I am like Diana Ross on tour as I move from house to house caring for the kids. When I move I have to take everything with me. I do have a permanent space at the ranch I am able to load all of my Ranch belongings into when I leave for the city. Our missionaries are responsible to purchase everything personal as all giving donations are strictly to be used

for the children.

I am blessed to receive the support needed to stay here at the minimum and in good stewardship use every dime of that to its fullest potential. I thank you for your prayers for myself and for my mother who recently had a hospital stay. She is recovering slowly but well and I believe that is a result of the committed people who support me. I hope all of this helps give you an idea on what life is like here and why the yearly funding is what it is! Melissa Brendemeuhl

If you would like to help support Melissa as a missionary, please make a notation on your offering envelope.

Guatemala Mission Trip We have a small group of ten SBC members who will be joining Finchville Baptist Church on a Guatemalan Mission Trip in July. Our team is responsible for VBS needs and we are

hoping you can help with these items: 100 small boxes of crayons markers fun Band-Aids

400 white plastic spoons dried beans 10 bright solid-colored rolls of duct tape.

June is our Flip Flop Challenge! We are trying to provide 100 pairs of flip flops for those whom we will be serving!! All donations can be taken to the Mission Cove.
