It's almostChristmas andI've noticed thatit's that time ofyear for fun, vis-iting, eating andin general enjoy-ing the day andits ambiance. This year we willhave 25 guestsfor Christmasdinner!

Do I worry about entertaining8 kids, and 17 adults? No, (Ishould but I don't.) Do I worryabout places for everyone to sit?No, we've got lots of TV traysand foldingchairs. Do Iworry aboutparking inand aroundthe house? No, because Ihave almostan acre andcan park a fleet of autos, trucksand SUV's if needed. Do Iworry about having enoughturkey and all the trimmings? Nobecause we will have shoppeddaily for the preceding threeweeks and spent a fortune buy-ing food!

Do I worry about watchingfootball, basketball, soccer, orany TV sport? Nope, because Ihave three TV's and two comput-ers all capable of entertainment.

Let it mellow!Things I have noticed...

Besides, all the kids and many ofthe adults will be receiving orsending text from or to a litany offriends. So if I don't worry aboutany of the stuff mentioned, whatthen is my problem? Well what itis: is the septic tank and its abilityto handle all the attention it willget over a 6 to 8 hour period with25 people waiting in line. Is theleach line capable of handling 23times as much waste as it does ona normal day? It's a fact that if thedamn thing does act up, the septicsystem will back up into my work-shop, and then into my wife'sbathtub (Not a pretty sight!!).

If I must call for help, will I beable to get a septic service out ona holiday? And if I do, how muchwill it cost? Of course all the kids,

uncles, aunts andthe rest who havebeen here before, remember thebathroom dittywhich is helpfuland should jinglein their headswhen eyeballing

the commode, My wife thinks itsgross, but the City of Oaklandused this poem during a watershortage and I think it's appropri-ate for my overworked septic sys-tem!

It goes like this: "If its yellow, letit mellow, but if its brown, flush itdown!!". If my guests follow thatsimple guideline, we can probablyget through the day without anemergency call to my favorite sep-tic pumping service... I hope!

If my property is impacted, how quickly willI be relocated?

If and when an approved plan is initiated for construction, a specificprocess and timetable for any relocations, which includes advancenotice to the affected residences and businesses, will also be initiated. The overall process includes a survey of the affected properties, fol-lowed by an orderly negotiated acquisition of the properties and relo-cation of the impacted residents and businesses. It is important to notethat no acquisitions or relocations would occur prior to formal author-ization to construct an approved project.

ined), would there be many (orany!) who would say they "givethanks" for us? Surely we mightadd caveats here for what we couldor should be that are reasons forsuch giving thanks, but theScripture adds no such adden-dums. Or perhaps we might shiftthe focus to what we have done, ormight do that would elicit suchemotions of appreciation, butagain, we would be reading moreinto this passage than is easily sup-ported. It appears that the Apostlewas remembering these dear peo-ple in their absence from him andsimply giving thanks for who theywere, imperfections and all. Couldwe but catch a glimpse of suchtruth from time to time wouldbring with it such a rest for oursouls, such a place of peacefulrepose within our hearts. Awayfrom us all false reflections of infe-riority, and be replaced with avision of us through the heart ofthe Father, and Jesus, theRedeemer, our Lord of love.

Of a course, we each have a farpiece to journey as the Holy Spiritmakes us more like our Savior, butcan we each hear the voice of ourFather speaking to each of usthrough the above words of whoand how He has made us, and howHis touch on our lives is that whichis to be celebrated? May we eachlook again into the mirror of Hisfreedom, and know deep withinour souls the deep and abiding lovein which we are embraced.

This has been oneof those weekswhen trying to puttogether a fishingreport was harderthan most. The lakehas been in one ofits winter moods, with the bite is heretoday and gonetomorrow.

Having neverprofessed to beingover educated inthese things, I dohave a couple ofthoughts on thelake’s environ-ment. With thewater level below 85,000 acre feet andthe inflow at 200 c.f.s. or less, the lakeseems a bit stagnant. With the outflowmatching the inflow, there is no realcurrent to keep a positive flow in thelake. The current that does exist seemsto be stirring up the sediment on thebottom.

My observation is that closer to thedeep water at the dam where the waterflows out to the lower river, more sedi-ment gets stirred.

The lake has a dull color and with lit-tle to no movement in the channels. Mybest guess is this could cause lower oxy-gen content. When the lake has 100%of its marine life living in about 30% ofnormal water storage, this might createproblems for the lake’s underwater pop-ulation.

Again I remind you that these aremy thoughts and ideas and are not theresults of any reports or surveys. Also

not wanting to bean alarmist, butwith the amount ofthe lake bottom thatis now exposed, arewe susceptible toany airborne dis-

eases when the winds really blow?I welcome your comments.

PICKS OF THE WEEK"The Bourne Legacy" (R) --

The last secret agent to go by thecodename Jason Bourne (MattDamon) set in motion a series ofconvoluted events that create afirestorm for another rogue opera-tive wearing the Bourne identity(Jeremy Renner). In this case, replac-ing the star of the series with a dif-ferent actor is not an indicator ofrapidly declining quality standards.

Tony Gilroy, screenwriter for thefirst three Bourne movie, takes overas director for this one. In previousBourne movies, it wasn't too hard tokeep a handle on what was going onand why it was compelling. In thisone, I gave up mid-way through andjust started taking in the spectacle. That's not the worst thing, but it'snot a good sign.

"Ice Age: Continental Drift"(PG) -- It seems the "Ice Age" fran-chise is set on teaching children thatextinction is long, repetitive, formu-laic process. Manny the mammoth,Diego the sabretooth, Sid the sloth(Ray Romano, Denis Leary, JohnLeguizamo, respectively) and manymore reappear for this fourth install-ment about an unlikely team of pre-historic talking critters.

The movie uses all of the easiest, most cliched puns and pop-culturegags on an audience too young to be

sick of them. Perhaps bombardingthe kiddos with lazy material willhelp them build an early immunity tolameness. I know that's a stretch, butit's the best thing I can say about"Ice Age 4" besides, "It wasmediocre.

"Ted" (R) -- Seth MacFarlane, the creator of TV's "Family Guy,"brings us this raunchy comedy thatgoes above and beyond what he cando on television. Ted (voiced byMacFarlane) is a stuffed bearbrought to life by a lonely child'swish. Years later, that child is a man(Mark Wahlberg), and his magictalking teddy is a beer-chugging,profanity-spewing bro who enablesimmature behavior. It's obscene andexquisitely lowbrow. If you canstomach the volume of blue humor,Ted has surprising heart and bellylaughs.

Typically, theThanksgiving andChristmas Holidayseasons are prettyslow in the realestate world. Mostpeople are concen-trating much moreon family and trav-el then they are onhunting for homes.Buyers are oftenbusy with Holiday preparations andsellers who are still in the residencethey are trying to sell are also mak-ing plans.

It is normal for the real estatemarket in any given area to haveseasonal adjustments due to certainholidays and weather. For example,in Alaska the real estate season is thespring and summer, because of win-ter weather. Yet in Mammoth, CAthe real estate selling season is prettymuch year around and increases inthe winter due to the Ski Resort.

It is the same for us here locallyexcept the trends are not exactlywhat you would think. We havenoticed over the years that the timeswhen the most escrow transactionsoccur are in the fall and spring.Winter is for the most part slow, andsummer is also slow which youwould think would not be the case.

The point is, trends matter, andreal estate for every area around thecountry has typically cyclical supplyand demand trends.

So here are some tips for you sell-

ers out there trying to sell a home ina slow time of year■ First of all, access is everything, whether your property is vacant oryou are still living there, make sureaccess is easy for agents and clients.Lockboxes are the way to go and ourMLS system has a fully automatedsystem that only Realtors can access.■ Secondly, make sure the house isclean and presentable, this is huge. Ifyour house looks great from the out-side but smells like a locker roomand has debris stacked floor to ceil-ing you are going to need a realmotivated buyer!■ Make the house inviting. Just cleanand picked up is not good enough.Remember, people are not just see-ing the house to buy the propertyitself; they are buying the experienceof living there. As a seller, pretendyou are a buyer, think on when youbought the property and why andtake your own advice, and make theplace most welcoming.■ Fourth and probably most impor-tantly, make sure your Realtor isaggressively marketing the property.I see this all the time, a beautifulhome with say five pictures whenyou can post up to 25 in the MLSsystem. Or a property that is listedwith an out of area and as a resultnone of the local agents even knowthat it is listed. Use somebody locallywho knows the market and can getyour property the exposure it needs.

ARIES (March 21 to April 19) Start preparingnow to make sure you get the credit you're due forall that effort you put in to get that project off theground. A new challenge emerges after the 15th.

TAURUS (April 20 to May 20) You're still charg-ing full steam ahead on the job -- and that's fine. But take time to share the joy of preparing for theupcoming holidays with folks you love.

GEMINI (May 21 to June 20) A former detractorresists joining your ranks just yet. Give him or hertime to learn more about what you're doing.Meanwhile, devote more time to friends and fami-ly.

CANCER (June 21 to July 22) Be careful not to begoaded into a tiff by someone who might be look-ing for a fight. Remain cool as you make your exit.Be assured that others will rally to your support.

LEO (July 23 to August 22) Kudos on getting thewell-deserved Lion's share of the rewards for a jobwell-done. Now you can take a breather from yourworkaday duties and spend time with your family.

VIRGO (August 23 to September 22) You enjoy aquick spurt of renewed energy just in time to meetthat upcoming deadline. A potentially romantic sit-uation looms. How it develops will be up to you.

LIBRA (September 23 to October 22) Watch out

for distractions that could cause delays and leaveyou running twice as fast to finish your work bythe 15th. Then go ahead and have fun.

SCORPIO (October 23 to November 21) Youmight prefer to work on current tasks on yourown. But be open to a potentially useful sugges-tion from someone who admires you and wants tohelp.

SAGITTARIUS (November 22 to December 21)Avoid rushing full gallop into that volunteer proj-ect without knowing what's expected of you. Takethings a step at a time as you begin to find yourway.

CAPRICORN (December 22 to January 19)Good news: You should begin to feel more com-fortable expressing your emotions. This will go along way in helping you with that personal situa-tion.

AQUARIUS (January 20 to February 18) An oldfriend gives confusing signals. Best advice: Don'tassume that things will necessarily work them-selves out. Ask questions and demand straightanswers.

PISCES (February 19 to March 20) A new rela-tionship needs time to develop. Be careful not tolet your emotions flood your natural sense of cau-tion. Meanwhile, check out that new job offer.
