May 2017 CAPTAIN’S DESK 2017 Club Championship The month-long 2017 Club Championship successfully concluded with a tinge of history to its ending. The new champion is a 17 year old junior, Ryan John Fernandez. This is the first time that a junior has won the elite KGNS Golf title. His score was five better than his nearest rival over the three days event. The tournament organizing committee was in constant apprehension throughout the month for fear that the newly renovated greens and their surrounds may not stand up to the test of grueling competitions of five major events that lasted over four weeks. The feedback has been encouraging with members giving their thumbs up as to the course condition and layout. It was a rewarding experience for the organizing committee that took on a brave decision to plan the playing conditions for each of the five events based on the potential and capabilities expected of the participants against the newly- renovated course. The main consideration was to ensure that the participants enjoy the challenge and able to deliver the scores expected of them. Feedback from the players for further improvements are noted and these will be considered for next year’s Championship. The month-long championship culminated with a honky- tonk country night gala dinner at the Dewan Tunku. All the gallant victors from the six events Junior, Ladies, Senior, Super Senior, Intermediate and the Mens’ Open Champion were recognized and presented with their trophies and winnings. It was a fanciful evening of quaint and jaunty western music. Many of the attendees came dressed ala country style with the necessary country swagger and a display of brawling attitude. And occasionally there would be the familiar loud booming yell of heeee-ya, reverberating to the accompaniment of the rocking-n-rolling country music. Truly an evening to be remembered for quite a while. Town Hall Forum The much anticipated Town Hall Forum between the members, the Management Committee and the Management of the Club will not take place. The MC has decided that there is no need for a dialogue between the said groups and that the timing is not right Happy clubbing to everyone and see you around at the club.
