Healthy Computer Checklist

Developing a program that works on multiple operating system (OS) platforms involves some “computer maintenance” by end users to support 21st Century Training. Just like maintaining your car, your computer must also be maintained if it is to continue running efficiently. If this is the first time doing a task or it has been a while since you have done it, it may take a while, depending on how long it has been since the last time.

Print this checklist, then close all other programs.Empty the Recycle BinEmpty internet cache; Open Internet Explorer (IE) > Tools > Internet Options > On

General tab, under Browsing history, click Delete…Disk clean-up; Go to My Computer > Right click on SYSTEM (C:) > Properties > On

General Tab, Click Disk CleanupDefragment; Go to My Computer > Right click on SYSTEM (C:) > Properties > On Tools

Tab > Defragment Now, Click Defragment. It will automatically Analyze and then Defragment.

*These may not be the specific directions for your computer, you may need to check with your IT department. Also, if your IT department blocks you from executing any of these tasks, call them and ask them to help you.

* If you do not have enough space to defragment, remove old files and archive them; pictures take up a lot of space, as do videos.

What else can I do?

• Currently, CM updates are coming out weekly. Be sure to keep your CM updated.

• Work with your local school IT to complete your healthy computer checklist weekly to biweekly. They may even be able to help you schedule the maintenance so you don’t have to do it yourself.

• Work with your local school IT to help keep your computer updated with standard OS updates and plug-ins. Plan to do this monthly. Your IT department is there to help you.

• The CM and all supporting programs follow the Army GOLD Standards for approved applications, however you can install the Standard Windows OS. Contact your Bde for the disks.
