Ways to feel less stressed each day R ead on to find out how you can get more out of each day... Get rid of the clutter Are you surrounded by too many things in a not-so-very big space? Having too much stuff can leave you feeling overwhelmed and bog you down, eventually leading to stress. Living in constantly messy surroundings brings on unwanted anxiety. Therefore, experts say you need to de-clutter to de-stress. Don't start by wanting to clear up everything at once. That will only stress you out further. Begin with a small space and gradually move to bigger things. A space that is uncluttered can feel satisfying and soothing. Do the housework While this might seem like a mundane, everyday chore, try to do things a bit differently. Put on your favourite music or TV show in the background, make a list of all that needs to be done, and get down to work. Not only will you burn calories and get your work down, you won't be tired and stressed out at the end of it. Drink juices Researchers say that the vitamin C present in orange juice can actually help you manage stress better because it lowers levels of stress hormones like cortisol. Remember that vitamin C-rich foods such as orange juice, grapefruit juice, strawberries, or sweet red peppers boost your immune system. Sing out loud When was the last time you sang loudly to your heart's content? Turn up the radio and start singing. No matter how bad you think you are, studies show that singing can actually make you feel happier and feel less stressed. Singing also benefits your breathing, heart and immune system. Breathe deeply Invest in some lavender or rosemary scents and take a deep whiff - it will instantly put you in a more relaxed state and lower levels of the stress hormone cortisol. If you prefer not to use scents, practice the act of deep breathing regularly. This sends oxygen surging through your bloodstream, helping to calm down and beat stress. Try yoga and its various breathing techniques to help you with this. Have some sex If you're using stress as an excuse to abstain from sex, think again. Having sex is actually a great way to ease stress because it lowers blood pressure, boosts self-esteem as well as increases feelings of intimacy with your partner. It also helps you sleep better.

How to carry bright bottomsWant to wear bright

bottoms? Here'show to carry them

off without looking l ike afashion victim The brightsummer has sparked off anequally sunny trend for men -colourful pants. Seen on everyyoung dandy actor, colouredpants have been a favourite ofAamir Khan down the years.Stylist Nitasha Gaurav, whorecently put Emraan Hasmi incanary yellow pants on thecover of a film magazine, tellsyou how to rock this trend.

Tee All you need on top ofthese pants is a thin whitebasic T-shirt - either V-neck orround - in jersey fabric. Collaredtees or shirts are a complete no-no. The look is bright, summeryand cheerful and shirts raindown on that feeling. At most, stretch to slubby, light grey T-shirts. Imran teamed his with a

buttoned down shirt with ablack cardigan and a tie to worka preppy look. Aamir gets acomplete thumbs-down withthe full-sleeve shirt.

Belt A belt is notcompletely necessary for thislook. If you must hold yourpants up, use simple canvasbelts with ring or square metalfastenings. Large buckles arenot on the same page as thiseffortless look. Try to matchthe colour, as much as possible, with your shoes. A neutralcolour such as beige will alsodo. Pants?Primary colours suchred, bright blue and yellow, orgreen are hot now. Thesilhouette is clean, and slim ortapered - think chinos or slimstraight cut jeans. Pleats, roominess or cargo pants-likepocket and zipper details arenot invited. Flat front is the wayto go. The pants should ideally

break under the ankles, but youcan also fold them up to makethem look cropped.

Shoes Loafers or boatershoes, in navy, grey, brown orcolours are the ideal footwear. You could also contrast thecolours. Skip the socks, and ifyou are under 30, only then areyou allowed to wear canvastrainers. If you are over 30 andwear canvas trainers with brightpants, you risk coming off astrying too hard. Chunky leatherchappals also complete thelook well . AccessoriesWayfarers go with this '50sinspired look very well. Youcould also offset it with a bright, contrast coloured plastic orsporty watch. Since i t 's asummer look, short clean hairis the best; at most, you couldtousle or spike it using somegel. Carry your stuff in a slingbag.

Breastfeedingfacts and mythsWhen reading about

breastfeeding, thenumber one advice

is always in its favour - theworld believes thatbreastfeeding is good for themother and child. But today'swomen are increasingly pickingalternatives to breastfeeding, especially if they are workingwomen. Several also believethat breast milk is low in iron, and that breastfeeding shouldbe avoided if the mother is illor on medication. But how trueare these beliefs? We help youdraw the line betweenbreastfeeding myths and facts.

Breastfeeding myth: Acommon fear among women isthat they will lose the shape oftheir breasts if the breastfeed.

Breastfeeding fact: But themedical world suggests thatnursing has the least impact onyour breasts compared toaging, weight and gravity.Breastfeeding myth: Onlysome, and not all mothersexperience sexual arousal whilebreastfeeding. Breastfeedingfact: Sexual arousal whilebreastfeeding is natural andshould not be consideredtaboo. Here's something youdid not know, when you nurseyour baby, your body releasesthe hormone oxytocin - whichis also released during orgasm.

Breastfeeding myth: Ifyou're stressed, breastfeedingwill affect your milk supply.Breastfeeding fact: Asmentioned earlier, your bodyreleases oxytocin when youbreastfeed. This relaxes yourbody and the milk flow gusheseasily. But when you arestressed, the release ofoxytocin reduces, slowing themilk supply; hence it takeslonger for you to breastfeed. But this doesn't affect yourmilk supply in that it doesn'treduce it permanently.Breastfeeding myth: If you arenursing your child lessfrequently, the milk will dry up.Breastfeeding fact: Technically

the milk ducts produce the rightamount of milk need for yourchild. If you breastfeedfrequently, the supply will begreater. The same goes for babieswho are nursed occasionally.Plus your baby may need moremilk than usual but you maythink the flow has reduced; oryour baby becomes accustomed

to bottles and pacifiers, whichchanges the behaviour of thechild toward breastfeeding.

Breastfeeding myth: It isimportant to teach a child howto hold the bottle and beindependent. Breastfeeding fact:There are several reasons whymothers opt for bottle.

But it's advisable tosporadically offer the bottle afterfour - six weeks of breastfeeding.Breastfeeding myth: It is okay forthe baby to consume formula asit is better than breast milk with

added nutrients. Breastfeedingfact: Even if you're using thebest formula for your baby itmay not contain antibodies, living cells, enzymes orhormones. Granted theseformula foods contain morealuminum, manganese, cadmium, lead and iron thanbreastmilk; this is why a

combination of breast milk andformula milk at different feedingtimes might work. Each baby isdifferent and has varyingnutrient requirements. Both, formula and breast milk havetheir own benefits. Therefore,a combination is oftensuggested. Breastfeeding myth:You need to watch what youeat, and drink a lot of water.Breastfeeding fact: You need abalanced diet, which meansdon't gulp down gallons of milk,or avoid any food groups.

Nowadays, store-bought juices claim tooffer many health

benefits. But are thesepackaged fruit juices reallyhealthy? We give you theanswers with the help of MsMansi Belani, Nutritionist fromEvolve Medspa. She says,"Fruit as a whole offers various

benefits to health and is animportant part of the food guidepyramid. As soon as fruit isexposed to air some of thesensitive nutrients get lost. Yes,apart from less nutrients, fruitjuice is concentrated in terms ofsugar so as calories. Forinstance, if you are making fruitjuice at home you'll require atleast 3-4 strained fruits to craftjust 1 glass of juice. As a resultin 1 glass you are getting sugar(sucrose) + calories of 3-4 fruitscollectively with lesser nutrientsand fibers." She points out the

difference in consuming fruitsand fruit juice: "There areseveral advantages to choosingfresh fruits over any fruit juice(fresh or packaged). Fresh fruitshave more anti-oxidants such asflavonoids and vitamin C ascompare to fruit juice. Fruit juiceelevates blood sugar morequickly than whole fruit, and the

level of sugar that can beobtained from fruit juice ishigher than the level found inwhole fruit. Thus if it's notutilized it can be further storedas fat in your body causingweight gain. Fruit juice is alsolacking fiber which is presentin fresh fruit." Ms Belanielaborates: "Processed bottledjuice can last up to 2 years.Once cold pressed, fruit juiceis rapidly pasteurized or heattreated. This heating treatmenthas been shown to destroy alot of the nutritional value ofthe ingredients along with thenaturally occurring digestiveenzyme within the fruit andchanges the pH from alkalineto acid. The primary purposeof this processing is to extendthe fruit juice's shelf life. The

additives and preservativesadded to the juice may causecarcinogenic effect on ourbody." She continues, "It isimportant to notice thenutritional value labeling behindall packaged fruit juices."

Are you sleepdeprived?

Catching a peacefulnight's sleep seems likea thing of the past. A

good night's sleep has becomeelusive for many. Sleepdeprivation is rampant in thepresent-day scenario and itdoesn't come as a surprise.Today's neurotic pace of life isone of the major reasons behindsleep deprivation.
