Existing Models

• There are many different aquatic centres and complexes all over the world especially in Australia. Centres such as Ryde have a slightly similar centre to ours however our Aquatic centre uses the latest technology to ensure that it is environmentally friendly and can hold much more people for everyday use. This ensures that we have a modern, clean and comfortable area in which people can learn to float, dive and swim.

Energy Needs of Existing Models

• Aquatic Centres such as Ryde use minimal energy in comparison to similar buisnesses however in 2050 there will be a great demand for energy efficient areas that are clean for the environment where as Ryde use energy consuming filters, lights and heaters all to use on their pools, slides and entertainment areas.

Usage in existing Models

• Similar models such as Ryde Aquatic Centre are incredibly popular with hundreds of people visiting for various time periods every day with very different people from all age groups. This then shows that Aquatic centres are being used every day and will be increasingly popular to the year 2050.

Events Held At Existing Models

• Similar models such as Ryde Aquatic Centre host a variety of different events including birthday parties, swimming carnivals, water aerobics, swimming lessons and everyday play. All of these events are a main attraction to our Aquatic Centre and will be advertised excessively as a main feature

Environmental Needs Of Existing Models

• Although there are slightly similar Aquatic Centres existing or currently being built many if not all do not adequately address the needs of their surrounding environment. These areas unlike our model do not have sufficient water filters, lighting, water purifiers, natural heating or minimal pollution all of which will be a huge demand if not a necessity by 2050.

Environmental Sustainability of Existing Models

• Currently the environment surrounding many existing Aquatic Centres are in reasonable condition however many if not all have been put in or renovated in the last 5 years and by the year 2050 many will have dried up a lot of neighbouring water supplies and damaged land from constant renovations. This suggests that by 2050 the environments surrounding existing Aquatic Centres will be damaged extensively.

Placement Of New Model

• As a group we have decided that there are several places in which would benefit largely from a neighbouring Aquatic Centre. Although we would suggest our model to be incorporated all over NSW and then Australia we have decided that we will place our Aquatic Centre in the Sport Centre off James Ruse and Victoria Road.

Needs in Given Suburb/City

• The area in which we decided we were going to place our Aquatic Centre – The Sport Centre off James Ruse and Victoria Road, we believe that this area is in need of some type of “water” area as they are fairly far away from any beaches. Also as the Sport Centre is fairly close to a stream off the ocean and has a very hot climate this will be a great asset for our Aquatic centre to rely on.

Need for New Model by 2050

• As a group we have decided that the area in which we are placing our Aquatic Centre will be growing and developing in the coming years and by 2050 when Australian population is a lot bigger and in winter when beaches are too cold our Aquatic Centre will be a much needed area.

Population, Growth & Decline, Housing Needs

Through extensive research we have found that the area in which we would put our Aquatic Centre will grow in population rapidly and as we are simply adding on to an existing popular sporting centre it will have no impact on neighbouring houses in which there are still vast areas to build on which will boost the people going to our Aquatic Centre

Local Businesses/Environments

A major problem faced by many other designs due to other businesses and the environment do not apply to us as we are simply building/adding on a facility to an already existing Sporting Centre and the area we are building on is simply a bare patch of grass that has no current use.

Design Decisions

Whilst making our Aquatic Centre we have used some of the latest and greatest environmentally friendly technology available in and outside the Centre that we are sure will still continuously be popular and environmentally friendly by 2050.

Solar Panels & Skylights

In our Aquatic Centre we have used Solar Panels in our roofing system as well as skylights. The Solar Panels will provide natural warming of our pools and water accessories and the skylights will use natural lighting to light up the Centre which will ensure no electricity is used for lights.

Desalination Plant

In our Aquatic Centre we have decided to build a small Desalination Plant that will be underground and clean water taken directly from a stream connected to the ocean nearby. This will ensure clean water and the salt separated from the water will be used to clean our pool instead of chlorine.

Filtration System

As with all pools our Aquatic Centre will use a filter to properly clean out any bacteria or dirt. However unlike most filters we will be using a new yet to be released model straight from the U.S that uses ½ the electricity of standard models and in turn is cleaner for the environment.

Cost

Our Aquatic Centre is meant to be within the range of 1 to 1.5 million dollars due to the fact that it is of considerable size and uses the latest technology and although this is slightly expensive than most other similar models we are confident that in the near future due to our self powering sources and customers we will be making a profit.
