Music

The earliest forms of music were probably drum-based, percussion instruments being the

most readily available at the time (i.e. rocks, sticks). These simplest of simple instruments are

thought to have been used in religious ceremonies as representations of animals. There was no

notation or writing of this kind of "music" and its sounds can only be extrapolated from the music

of (South) American Indians and African natives who still adhere to some of the ancient religious

practices. In today’s generation, music has become a big part in what people think, do and act upon.

Music can be used to create suspense, dramatic effect, and even so feelings of that person. It can

also interact with how you feel in particular calm while listening to jazz or angry with rock. Music

has come a long way and it’s surprising that it’s still going on today and for many more years to

come. Students nowadays usually bond over the music that they listen to. When they go to concerts

or just hang out, music is usually tied into their bonding.

Music has come a long way since the 1900’s from it just being only 2 genres of music. To it

being over 20 genres and 50 sub-genres. The most popular genres of today’s music are: hip-

hop/rap, rock, country, pop, jazz, and gospel. The most well known artist in today’s generation is:

Kanye West, Drake, Chris Brown, Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan, Owl City, Neon Trees, Nickelback, &

Carly Rae Jepson.

According to our survey we took during first period, you can see that Hip-Hop/Rap is

favored by more than half of the class. At least 25 percent of the class likes rock and maybe 15

percent enjoy country. Less than 10 percent have liking for gospel, jazz, and pop.

Sports

Football is a common sport that your whole household will enjoy. It was formed by Walter

Camp from an English game of rugby to the American football. Many changes were made to the game of

English rugby to soccer to American football. Camp contributed the following changes:

-One side retained undisputed possession of the ball, until that side gives up the ball as a result of

its own violation.

-The line of scrimmage

-Eleven members on a team instead of fifteen

-Creating the quarter-back and center positions

-The forward pass

-Standardized the scoring system, a numerical scoring

-Creating the safety, interference, penalties, and the neutral zone

-Tackling as low as the knee was permitted – 1888

-A touchdown increased in value to six points

-Field goals went down to three points - 1912

Thus resulting in the National Football League of the NFL, this was formed in 1920.

Super Bowl Sunday is one of the biggest eating days of the year in the United States. Something

you probably didn’t know is that the Green Bay Packers were the first team to win the first two Super Bowls;

the years were 1967 and 1968. It took them 30 years to win the Super bowl again. There are many surveys

that say that the Monday following the Super Bowl there has been in increase from their employees calling

in sick. Many of their complaints normally range from headaches, hoarse voices, upset stomach and

exhaustion.

Fun Facts

Morten Anderson was a kicker for the Atlanta Falcons and also for the New Orleans Saints. Morten

was known as a “Legend” in football history. In 1987 Morten said that he received a vicous blindside hit

from the Oilers and that it resulted in him getting a concussion

Morten Andersen is the NFL's all-time leader in total points scored (2544), career games played

(382); total field goals attempted (709) and field goals made (565).

NFL placekickers are some of least respected athletes in all of American sports; that is, until the

game is in their hands.

Motocross is one of the most popular types of racing sports. Dirt bikes have been around

since the late 19th century, and continue to evolve with technological advances.

Over the years, the event would evolve, largely through the efforts of riders from Europe who

shortened the tracks while adding laps and various obstacles through the course such as jumps. The

sport's popularity would increase during the 1930s, particularly in Britain where events involving teams

from various districts and companies would be held regularly. Bikes used in those competitions at the time

would be barely distinguishable from those used on the streets.

Recently, motocross has gradually developed new forms of riding and disciplines ranging from

indoor stadium arena events such as Supercross and Arenacross to Freestyle Motocross where riders

display an array of skills while performing thrilling jumps and stunts. The 2010 ATK 700cc 2 stroke is one of

the fastest known dirt bikes made. This bike was designed mainly for very overweight people, making easier

for them to ride trails through the woods with deep mud holes because of the power it has.

Books

A book can be a set of written, printed, illustrated, or blank sheets usually fastened together to

hinge at one side. Books are mostly made of ink, paper, parchment, and other materials. A single sheet

within a book is called a leaf, and each side of a leaf is called a page. A book produced in an electronic

format is known as an electronic book (e-books).

Books may also be referred to works of literature, or a main division of such a work. Books these

days have many different forms, genres, media, techniques and discussions. The forms can be categorized

into a novel, poem, drama, short story, and a novella. The genres include comedy, drama, epic, erotic,

nonsense, lyric, mythopoeia, romance, satire, tragedy, tragicomedy, fiction, and non-fiction. Then there’s

the media of that book, it could be a performance, a play or just you reading that book. The techniques used

in books are mainly prose and verse. Prose is a form of language which applies to the ordinary grammatical

structure and natural flow of speech rather than rhythmic structure as in traditional poetry. Verse is formally

a single metrical line in a poetic composition, which can be grouped in stanzas. Where the common unit of

poetry is a verse, based on meter or rhyme, and prose is purely grammatical, such as a sentence or a

paragraph. As for the discussion about the book, it could contain profound criticism, new theories, and

magazine talk.

But nowadays, the controversy is between buying the actual book and buying the electronic book.

Both allow you to do the most important thing which is read the book. Reading the Sumerian legends on

clay tablets may feel more “authentic”, but that’s not essential to enhancing your understanding of the

subject of the book, just your experience.

There are many pros and cons to having an e-book and the actual book. The actual book is very

easily obtainable, portable, doesn’t cause significant eye-strain, you can also take notes right there next to

the passage and are very cheap. But you have to keep in mind that they are also bulky, heavy, and you need

a light source (another thing you will probably have to carry around). While the e-book is easily readable

(zoom function and letter resizing), portable (more than one book on one device), environmentally friendly,

you can take notes without it being their permanently, and lighting conditions. But then there’s the eye-

strain, how long you’ve been reading the book on the electronic device (Long periods of time spent in front

of a computer are unhealthy), the power you will take up, worrying about the battery life, software bug and

viruses that will cause the device to not work properly, they are not very robust (If you spill a drink on it,

throw it down and the scratches that will appear.

Circus Animals

Most animals used in the circus are meant to live in the wild. Instead of their natural habitats where

they would roam free and live on their natural instincts, they are forced to live and travel in cramped

quarters far smaller than their habitats in the wild. They are often forced to eat, sleep and even defecate in

the same place. Circuses travel to many locations and water is limited in some locations, bathing and

cleaning the animals living quarters is given low priority where water is limited. Unfortunately, this limitation

extends to their drinking water as well.

Ever wonder how circuses manage to get the animals to perform so well? Animals do not perform

the acts you see in the circus naturally. They have to be trained, often by extreme methods. They are

traumatized in to obeying their human ‘trainers” commands. Bull hooks are often driven in to the tender

areas of an elephant’s body to make it cooperate. Electric shock, whips, baseball bats and pipes are also

among the methods used to force the animals to cooperate in training. Some animals are kept muzzled to

subdue them and discourage them from defending themselves if they feel threatened. Some animals are

drugged to make them manageable and some have their teeth removed. Some bears have had their paws

burned to force them to stand on their hind legs.

The combination of the above circumstances and other factors lead to mental distress in circus

animals. There have been many cases of animals attacking humans and escaping. Since 1990, attacks by

captive big cats have resulted in 46 human’s deaths and the killing of 70 big cats, including 13 humans

killed by captive bears with 8 of them being children. Attacks have also resulted in 26 bears being killed.

Since 1990, attacks by captive primates have resulted in 2 human’s deaths, 130 human injuries, and the

killing of 450 primates. That same year, 57 people have been killed by captive elephants with 120 people

were injured. When you think about how they are treated, can you blame them for attacking? What must

they think of humans? They don’t ask for the miserable lifestyle circus performance subjects them to.

As with many other forms of animal “entertainment”, once the animal can no longer perform, it is

not much value to the circus. They may be permanently caged, sold to a game farm to be hunted, or sold to

a lab. We might like to think the wild animals featured in a circus, movie, TV show or commercial are

enjoying themselves. But behind the scenes, the methods used to train these animals are often abusive,

and they may be chained or confined for hours on end.

No matter what kind—elephants, lions, tigers or bears—the needs of wild animals can’t be met in

traveling shows. And there’s always risk: If an animal tries to escape or lash out, it can be deadly for the

trainer, the audience, and the animal .Once these animals become too dangerous or old to perform, there

may be no safe refuge for them. With so many better choices in entertainment, there's no need to use wild

animals. If you see a captive animal being treated cruelly, speak up. You can also support stronger laws to

protect wild animals. And use your pocketbook to advocate for alternatives such as animatronics in films

and animal-free circuses.
