Just a reminder that we are a nut free school. We have children in school with nut allergies. Please don’t send any products in lunch boxes that contain nuts. Thank you for your cooperation.
This has been another very busy week at Woodhouse. I have seen some superb work from children across the school, especially in writing this week. It is always a delight to see the amazing outcomes which the children produce and the pride they have in a piece of work done well. Our parents’ evenings are a brilliant chance for you to see the amazing work your child has completed: the things they have excelled at and the things they have been challenged by. Thank you to all those parents who attended our parents’ evening on Thursday after school. It is so valuable for school and home to be working as one to ensure the very best for every child. We look forward to meeting the remaining parents on Tuesday next week. If for any reason you were unable to attend either of our parents’ evenings, please speak to your child’s teacher and we can arrange a meeting. This could be at a time which works for you either in person, or on the phone.
At this point in the year it is vital you know how your child is getting on, how their learning is progressing, the next steps for them and how you can support this at home. It is also a crucial opportunity to discuss anything with the class teacher. The staff at school are always happy to speak with you if there is anything that you need – just ask. Coming up during this term, each class will be running a session for parents to come into school and work alongside their children. These parent sessions will support parents to develop a greater understanding of some of the learning strategies we use in school and which can also be used at home. They will also give you an excellent opportunity to see your child in their school learning environment.
Thank you to all parents for the phenomenal response to our extended clubs offer for this term. In our last parent’s questionnaire, some parents asked for a broader extra-curricular provision in school. We are very fortunate to have such committed staff that they will give up their time to run after school provision, and I know that the clubs have been very well received by the children. Thank you for encouraging them to attend and for your support at stoking the interest in the many different options given. We have also changed some of our lunchtime clubs to give a greater variety of clubs for children to take part in. Learning out of the classroom environment can be great fun and is a great way of developing the interests and passions of the children.
Thank you all for your superb support for our school and helping us ensure your child meets their full potential. I hope you all have a good weekend.
Yours sincerely, Mr Oliver Wilson – Head Teacher

The Life Education bus will be visiting us in February to help support us in educating the children about making safe, healthy choices.
Children from Nursery to Year 6 will meet Harold the Giraffe and take part in an age appropriate health and drug education programme e.g. younger children will focus on healthy eating, being kind to each other and medicine safety, while older children will focus on making the right safe and healthy choices and talk about drugs including cigarettes and alcohol.
There is a parent session on Monday 3rd February at 9am where parents and carers can meet the educator and find out what the children will be learning about.

Year One Chocolate Bonanza
Year One have been exploring the history of the Cadbury Family through their Topic; Bournville’s Chocolate Bonanza. As part of this topic the children have visited Bournville Village in small groups to look at the community that has been developed and to explore the different buildings. They have completed a scavenger hunt using map work and compared and contrasted building types, this includes Selly Manor. The children are eagerly anticipating their visit to Cadbury World later in the term, after they understand the origins of the cocoa bean and the journey it takes to get too Bournville. Accelerated Reader
At Woodhouse, we strongly value the importance of reading and work hard to inspire and instil a love of reading in our children. At the core of this push is Accelerated Reader – a system designed to engage and motivate children and help them develop their understanding of texts. It is extremely popular across all year groups and has gone from strength to strength over the past few years, which brings us onto our good news. Year 6 are off to a fantastic start with reading in 2020. Across the classes, the children have now read over 15 million words, and our top two readers have an incredible 5 million between them! To achieve a total of 15 million words, the children have read and passed the comprehension quizzes on over 1000 books since September. Sketchers Masterclass
On the 23rd January nine pupils from Woodhouse attended a Gifted and Talented Art masterclass at Wolverhampton Art Gallery. Pupils were taught how to draw accurate portraits and how to profile the face. They used a variety of techniques, sketching the head from all different angles and quickly capturing shape and facial features. The children achieved stunning results. Some of the work they produced is now up on display in school.
Stars of the Week
Congratulations to all of these children who have gone over and above
with their effort in class and around school this week. We are very proud
of each and every one of you. Keep up the good work. Will it be you
