A PLATINUM sanctioned event is an international junior competition attracting the world’s best juniors as recognized by the European Squash Federation and World Squash Federation.

This event is suitable for those actively participating in Silver and Gold events, Team England, the EDP - Potential and EDP as well as select number of high achieving players in the “Aspire Programme”.

Players can expect to play up to 4 or 5 games over multiple days.

The greatest ranking points are available for players who participate in this competition

A GOLD sanctioned event is a 3-4 day competition which is the largest and most prestigious level of domestic junior squash tournament.

Gold events include the British Junior Championships and the English Junior Championships.

Players can expect to play up to 4 or 5 games over the course of the competition.

A Gold sanctioned event attracts the highest ranked junior players from all age groups. A greater number of rankings points are awarded in a Gold event compared to a Silver event.

A SILVER sanctioned event is a 2-2.5 day competition which attracts higher ranked English players.

Ideally players can expect to play up to 4 or 5 games over the event.

There are 7 Silver sanctioned events in a season and these are geographically spread so they are accessible to all players. A greater number of rankings points are awarded in a Silver event compared to a bronze event.

A BRONZE sanctioned event is a 2 day competition aimed at juniors locally who play at a club or county level.

Players can expect to play up to 4 or 5 games over a two day event depending on the format. Games will be played as best of 5.

A COPPER sanctioned event is an entry level competition aimed at juniors who are beginners based locally.

Players can expect to play up to 3 matches in the day. Games will be played as best of 3.

This is the first step into sanctioned event and entry into the national ranking system.

RANkINGS SYSTEM AND ELIGIBILITY• The ranking system will remain as a “finishing position” system, with points allocated based on finishing positions at England Squash sanctioned events.

• All players must be current members of England Squash to appear on the national junior rankings.

• An online refereeing/marking course must also be completed as part of criteria to appear on the national junior rankings. This is to be completed by all players currently ranked by 26 October 2017. Any new players wishing to appear on the rankings will need to complete this course before appearing (from 1 September 2017).

DIVISORY (NuMBER OF EVENTS ThE RANkING SCORE IS BASED ON) AND quALIFYING PERIOD OF EVENTS• This will remain as is - i.e. a player’s ranking score will be based on their best seven (six for u19) results from events taking place in the past 12 months.

NUMBER OF EVENTS REqUIRED TO BE RANkED• Remains as is – players must play at least one event in any age group in order to appear on the national junior rankings.

POINTS STRUCTURE• Ranking points will awarded at a single, ‘flat’ rate of points across age categories. A full points table detailing the points awarded by finishing position for each event level and draw size will be published when full details of the new ranking system is announced.

• When moving up into a new age category, a player’s best four results at the lower age category will be transferred to their new age category ranking, at a rate of 50% of their original value.

• Points transferred from events in lower age categories can only be used to ‘backfill’ where there aren’t enough results from the older age category to contribute to the best seven (or six for u19) results – i.e. a player’s fourth tournament (third for u19) at the older age category will replace the lowest result transferred from the lower age category and so on.

’PLAYING UP’ IN OLDER AGE CATEGORIES • Current rules around playing in older age categories will be retained. Players will be able to include a maximum of two results (at their full value) from the age category immediately above in their best seven (six for u19) results.

DIFFERENT POINTS PER AGE GROUPS OR FLAT?• Flat rate of points - no inflated points for playing up an age group

• Flatten - remain as is: taking 4 results up (at %50)

• Can only backfill with lower age group points (i.e. 4th tournament at

higher age category replaces 4th at lower age category result, even

if it’s fewer points)

• Points table - use current level u19 points (plus add Copper level at 50% of bronze).

RANkINGS RuLES / CHANGES

RULES ON PLAYING UP?• Can take 2 results back down (but at 100% of value).

TRANSITIONING UP? What % of points carry? how many events?• As above.

PLATE POINTS OR FINISHING POSITIONS?...• Plate points will no longer be recorded in the ranking system. Where plate competitions take place, plate participants are recorded as appropriate main draw finishing positions (i.e. in a 32 draw competition, plate winner = 17th; plate finalist = 18th; plate semi-finalists = 20th and so on)

• Since silver, gold and platinum events are full monrad, all finishing positions are determined through play off matches.

REGIONAL AND COUNTY ACTIVITY• From 2017/18, no ranking points will be awarded to players taking part in regional closed, county closed and Junior Inter County competitions. This is to reduce inconsistencies in opportunities players across different counties and regions currently have to earn ranking points, and also to reduce the administrative burden on the much smaller England Squash competitions and events team.

• Weekends will continue to be kept free in the calendar for the following optional regional/county activity, should the counties/ Regional Forums wish to organise the events:

- Regional Junior Closed Championship

- County Junior Closed Championship

- Junior county training.

ADDITIONAL ChANGES

• No events will take place in August, to provide a rest period for players & families.

• The u11 Festival will replaced by a new u11 age group integrated into the Junior Inter County Championships.

• The stand alone u11 National Championships will be integrated into a new u11 age group at the English Junior Championships.
