July 2, 2012 NYCC Sailing Newsletter • 7001 hampton blvd • norfolk, va 23505• 423.4500 The first week of camp really flew by! We had some great sailing conditions which meant lots of time spent on the water with everybody learning loads. Lets hope the breeze sticks around so we can have another week of quality sailing. Beginner Class The beginners spent their first couple of days learning the ropes (literally). Rigging, knot tying and steering were perfected before getting on the water with full sails and putting their land drills to good use. This week hopefully all the kids will get to sail solo and will have gotten the hang of all the points of sail. Intermediate Class The intermediates spent the first day or two shaking off the cobwebs and finding their sea legs again. Once they got back in to the swing of things race practice became their top priority and NYCC was well represented at the Hampton Annual Regatta this past weekend. It would be great to see as many kids as possible competing in the larger regattas around the bay. Sloops Class The sloop class is a little smaller this year than usual but they've still been getting out on the water everyday with skipper and crew getting used to working together to sail the boat as fast as possible. This is a great class for any older sailors with a little experience who have out grown the opti. SAILING N e w s l e t t e r Just a quick reminder that the evening regatta this week will be on Thursday July 5, instead of Wednesday July 4. Sailors should arrive at the club at the usual time of 5pm. Hoping to see a lot of y'all there.
