prostitution is legal. The Cultural

Moral Compass points to what

the majority feels, senses, desires

and decides what is their North.

The Cultural Moral Compass is

inconsistent and unreliable, its

definition of right and wrong

change with time and place and

mean different things to different

people. Every person and culture

has some sort of guide that is his

or her Moral Compass.

2.) For those who follow

Christ, God’s Moral Compass is

fixed on something like Earth’s

True North, on unmovable

principles, laws, truths, standards

Christian, the definition of right

and wrong never change with

Dictionary” defines Moral Com-

pass as, "something that helps a

person make choices about what

is right, effective, etc..."

Man’s Moral Compass

points to two separate “North

Poles”.

1.) Like the Earth’s ever-

moving Magnetic North Pole,

the Cultural Moral Compass

points to a different North at

different times and changes

depending of the desires,

understanding, senses and vote

of the majority of people or that

of the few in control. For

example, President Abraham

Lincoln issued the Emancipation

Proclamation on January 1,

1863, as the nation approached

its third year of bloody civil war.

The proclamation declared "that

all persons held as slaves" within

the rebellious states "are, and

henceforward shall be free."

Before that date in America, the

Moral Compass of the culture

and legal system, declared that

slavery was acceptable. With the

Emancipation Proclamation, the

Cultural Moral Compass shifted,

North never changes, is

that correct? Yes and no. There

are two North Poles.

1 . ) There is the

“Magnetic North,” the under-

earth magnetic field that attracts

the needle on a compass.

Magnetic North, as it is

reported, is moving about 40

miles per year. It changes

continually. That means when

the needle on your compass

points to North, it is pointing to

a different location, by forty or

so miles, each year. It is

inconsistent and unreliable.

2.) There is “True

North,” which is the exact fixed

location where the earth’s axis

spins, like on the uppermost

point of a spinning child’s toy

top. This point never moves,

period. It is unmovable.

People have a

compass too, an

internal Moral

Compass. That

moral compass

points to what

is right, and

points away

Sin convinces us that if everyone

is doing something and they call

it okay, it must be right.

Is our compass heading

on man’s standards or God’s? If

off course, if you have lost your

way, take that misstep to the

cross, apply grace, and follow

close to Him.

We are not saved by the

Ten Commandments. Christ died

to fulfill them because we could

not. Yet, now, after having been

redeemed, the Commandments

come alive as our guide to what

is right, what is wrong, and how

to love.

Do you have those

commandments memorized yet?

How about polishing that

compass?

compass represents the

verities of life, we must

develop our value system

with deep respect for

“true north” principles.”

Centered Leadership

(Stephen R Covey Set)

(p. 94). RosettaBooks -

A. Kindle Edition.

All of this said, you are

invited to observe the world

around you, on the street, from

the newspaper, from the evening

news on television, and see, is

the world creating their own

definition of right and wrong?

Or, are they pointed to God’s

True North, His unmovable

principles of right and wrong.

More so, examine your own life,

are you being guided by what

culture says is good and

acceptable, or by God’s

definition of right and wrong?

The Scripture is clear;

everyone has His law written on

their hearts. But sin in us

deceives us, lures us off course,

convinces us by comparisons

and rationalizes wrong as right.

Look at the definition of

“Moral Compass” again,

“something that helps a person

make choices about what is

right, effective, etc.."

For us, what is that

“something” to which our

Moral Compass points? Is it

God’s definition of right and

wrong, as described in His

Word, or the world’s ever

changing definition?

In the book, “Principle

Centered Leadership,” author

Steven Covey devotes an entire

chapter to the Moral Compass.

Describing witnessing a

mugging in New York, he

writes…

“They [the gang of

muggers] lacked an

internal moral compass.

Principles are like a

compass. A compass has

a true north that is

objective and external,

that reflects natural

laws or principles, as

opposed to values that

are subjective and

internal. Because the

The Cultural Moral Compass is like Magnetic North, it moves. National

Geographic says, “Earth's north magnetic pole is racing toward Russia at almost 40

miles (64 kilometers) a year due to magnetic changes in the planet's core, new research

says.”

Trey Boerschinger is the

grandson of Bob and Fay Boerschiner. He will graduate from Preble High School on May 31.

Trey’s love of cooking will take him to Fox Valley Technical College for the culinary arts

program. His favorite Bible verse is Psalm 23. “...Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort

me..” Favorite memories of Our Saviour include meeting the many people that have become

part of his life.

Linzey Bunker is the daughter of William

and Lynn Bunker. She graduates from Denmark High School this year. After graduation, she will attend NWTC and study design and graphic technology. Her favorite Bible verse is John 8:12: “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” Linzey will always remember the fun times in confirmation class.

DaVonte King is the son of Brenda Buechner. He will

attend NWTC in fall and then plans to work in a field that involves kids. His favorite Bible verse is Ephesians 6:10-11: “Finally, be

strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of

the devil.” He fondly remembers being part of the youth group, the trips taken and the fund-raising, pizza making lock-ins.

Congrats seniors of 2012!

Karissa Pomasl is

the daughter of Larry and Julie Pomasl. She attended Preble High School. After graduation, she will attend UW-River Falls in the fall,

majoring in the pre-veterinarian program. Her favorite Bible verse is 1 John 1:5-9: “This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim

to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not

practice the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have

fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the

truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Her memories

of Our Saviour include camping trips to Camp Luther.

Anthony Clayton, son of Bryant and Sherilyn Clayton, will

graduate from Ashwaubenon High School. He will be attending a technical college with the goal of becoming a police officer. His favorite Bible verse is Joshua 1:9: "Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." His favorite memories of Our Saviour are confirmation classes and helping with vacation Bible school.

Austin Riley Knurr is the son of Chris

and Jeanne Knurr. After graduation from Ashwaubenon High School, he plans to attend St. Norbert’s College and study pre-med. He will work work toward being an emergency room doctor. His favorite Bible verse is Jeremiah 29:11: “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Special memories for Austin include trips to Camp Luther.

Rachel VandeHei is the daughter of Randy and Renee

VandeHei. She attended Bay Port High School. After graduation, she will attend UW-Oshkosh but is undecided on a major at this point…maybe education or occupational therapy. Her favorite Bible verse is Psalm 23: “The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

” Memories of

Our Saviour include meeting and making new friends throughout the years and confirmation class.

Bridget Stiles is the daughter of Jeri and Darold Stiles. She attended

Preble High School and will attend the University of Wisconsin- LaCrosse, where she will study to become an occupational therapist. She will be rooming

with Elyssa Ammerman, a fellow OSLC member. Her favorite Bible verse is Proverbs 16:3: "Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will

succeed." Her favorite memories include going to New Orleans for the National Youth Gathering in 2010.

Luke Richer is the son of Dan and Becky Richer. He

will graduate from Bayport High School in June. In fall, he plans to attend the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities to study kinesiology and become an occupational therapist. He will also be involved in music…playing in bands around the Minneapolis area. After college, the ideal job offer would bring him to Arizona. The Bible verse that “says it all” to Luke is John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” At Our Saviour, Luke made some good friends that are part of his grown up life. He says that the mission trip to New Orleans was one of the best vacations he has ever taken and he loved playing in the praise band at Our Saviour.

Congrats seniors of 2012!
