SUNDAY, JUNE 14 & SUNDAY, AUGUST 9

K is for Kachina! William Mattoon was known as a prominent Pueblo lawyer, but not many people know he created Kachina style art figures. See his collection and be inspired to create your own piece. Let the artwork from The McClelland School lead the way! On Loan from the William Mattoon Family.

It’s the Buell Children’s Museum’s 15th birthday and we’re inviting EVERYONE to our parties! Usher in the Summer with our celebration on June 14 and bid the Summer farewell with another party on

August 9. Do you have a Summer birthday too? Celebrate with us.

The magical Mr. E will be on hand to celebrate with a magic show and cake, of course! Enjoy the fun of the museum and all the fixin’s – included in your admission. Just follow the sound of singing…

Showtime is 1:30 in the Magic Carpet Theater.

Create your own clay art piece and see a collection of Storyteller Dolls, clay figurines made by the Pueblo people of New Mexico depicting a man or woman with their mouth open to tell or sing a story to young children. On loan from Kathy Parga.

See the art installation, “Purple Mountain Majesty” - area students illustrate each line from the Kathryn Bates song-written on top of Pikes Peak. Pueblo Community College Art Club will inspire you.

Pick up your Colorado Journal created by author/illustrator Craig McFarland Brown. Color your own “uncoloring” pages in your official Colorful Colorado book as you learn about the land and critters in southern Colorado. Sponsored by the Jennie and Albert Gersick Foundation

“Camp” out in our gallery, “fish” indoors, put on a wildlife puppet show, dress up like the state dinosaur, sing around the campfire, even create with marshmallows - you’ll want s’more!

Identify animal tracks, “Go Buggy” in the Sensations interactive exhibit, get advice from critters and learn to appreciate nature as only an artist can. Use nature’s tool box to make creative projects from sticks, and “story” stones.

Using Imagination Playground blocks, kids build a new world every day. They make objects like animals, rocket ships, houses, and cities. Most important, they make the rules. Because Imagination Playground is child-directed and open-ended, it encourages self-expression through deep, joyful play.

THINK BLUE

Imagination Playground is back! Look for blank fish kites with art supplies around the town. Clues will be given as to their hidden locations. When found, open it up, decorate the kite with the art inside and fly it!

Join us for the “Catch & Release - A Fish Tale” kick off at Lake Pueblo’s Fishing Derby, Saturday, June 6 from 8 - 10 am. The derby is free and no license is required. The event coincides with Colorado Parks and Wildlife’s free fishing weekend.

CATCH & RELEASE “A FISH TALE” KICK OFF

This event is free, but a park pass is required on every vehicle that enters park. A daily pass is $7 per vehicle.

BE A PART OF OUR FISH KITE INSTALLATION!

PRINT COLORFUL COLORADO!

Check out Colors of the Southwest in the Helen T. White and Reilly Family Galleries with vibrant artists such as RC Gorman, Tony Abeyta and John Farnsworth. Then unleash your inner printer! Gel Printing Plates that look and feel like gelatin! Monoprinting on a Gelli plate is simple and fun plus the prints are too cool! “You’ll be addicted to Gelli!”

Visit our a-MAZE-ing state of Colorado without ever leaving Pueblo. Get lost on your visit in artist John Wilbar’s installation of a life-size maze with exciting nature photography by Ron Drummond.

SUMMER FUN WITH OUR STATE!
