Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time Page 3
Together in MissionToday we revisit our Together in Mission Campaign for 2015. This funding source began in theArchdiocese of Los Angeles twentythree years ago. The people in parishes with financialresources are asked to help people in those parishes and schools in the Archdiocese who sufferfinancial short falls in order to meet their obligations and literally keep their doors open. Thisprogram is unique to the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. In other dioceses it is not uncommon tohear of schools and churches closing their doors, devastating their parishioners.
Since 1993 the people of our Archdiocese have contributed $300 million to keep the doorsopen for their brothers and sisters in need. Last year eighty parishes and sixtythree schoolsreceived funding from Together in Mission.
This weekend we have the honor of hearing from Ms. Ninette Reyes Slinger, the principal atSt. Sebastian School in Santa Paula. She will share about her personal experience withTogether in Mission and how it has benefitted her school and the children and families theyserve. We support people in need around the world, but today we get to hear about how wehelp students and teachers just over the hill.
As for Padre Serra, our parish goal is to raise $99,400 in 2015. So far we have raised $71,457,71.89% of our goal.
We must raise $27,943 over the next few months to reach our goal for 2015. I am hopeful thatafter hearing Ms. Slinger share one example of the great need in our Archdiocese, that togetherwe will prayerfully contemplate how we can fulfill our commitment. Our parish is blessed inso many ways, including the generous hearts of our people.
The story of St. Sebastian School is echoed again and again across our Archdiocese. Withoutthe support of Together in Mission, St. Sebastian might not be able to continue to support its200 students.
God bless you as you consider your response to this appeal. I cannotimagine a better way to encounter Jesus and be a disciple than to helpa neighbor in need through Together in Mission.
