Published by the Publications Committee of FUO June 2014 AMIS APPLUADS FOUNTAIN SCHOLARSHIP, SAYS IT’S UNIQUE STEP The National President of the Association of Model Islamic Schools in Nigeria(AMIS) and Proprietor of TAAS Group of Schools, Ibadan, Alh. Ta- judeen Salahudeen has commended Fountain University, Osogbo, the Uni- versity of NASFAT on its effort to remove the financial restriction to university education in Nigeria. This word of commendation was part of his opening address at the scholarship screening test organized by Fountain University for students of AMIS schools at TAAS College, Ibadan. Alh. Tajudeen who pledged that his asso- ciation (AMIS) would give Fountain University the required support in the mobilization and education of Muslim children in Nigeria said in clear terms that he was impressed by the unique step taken by the university. Addressing the scholarship candidates, Mr. Fasasi, the Head, FUO Scholarship Team identified the unique benefits that enjoyed by stu- dents at Fountain University as including state of the art science laboratories, quali- fied and well-motivated faculty, home-comfort resi- dential accommodation, international linkages, Is- lamic education cum moral and character build among others. Appreciating Fountain Uni- versity on behalf of AMIS, Alhaja F.O Alabi who was very grateful about the programme prayed for the progress of the University and NASFAT, the founding organization. COUNCIL / MANAGEMENT NEWS FUO ROUNDS OFF ACADEMIC ACTIVITES FOR 2013/2014 SES- SION Fountain University, Osogbo has rounded off academic activities for the 2013/2014 session. According to the academic calen- dar of the school, students offi- cially commenced their sessional break, after examination on the 28 th of June 2014 and are expected back in school for 2014/2015 session on the 13 th of October 2014. FUO GIVES STAFF RAMADAN WELFARE PACK As part of its effort to ensure that staff welfare is guaranteed, the management of Fountain University has given out Ramadan welfare pack to staff of all cadres in the university. The package, which included bags of rice and milk, was appreciatively received by members of staff across the two colleges and other units of the university. This kind gesture has been part of the university’s aim of boost- ing staff morale during festive periods. FUO HOLDS POST JAMB EXAMS As part of the 2014/2015 admission process, Fountain University, Osogbo has scheduled the first in the series of its post-Jamb Exams to hold on Saturday, the 19th of July, 2014. Four cities including Osogbo, Ijebu-Ode, Lagos and Ilorin have been chosen for the exams in which only candidates with five O’ Level credit passes including English Language and Mathematics will be eligible. “SELF-AGGRANDISED POLITICS IS THE BANE OF OUR SORRY STATE”- SHAYKH ORIMADEGUN

Nigerian Muslims have been advised to adopt mercy and compassion as pana-cea to the ethno-religious crisis bedeviling the nation. This was the recom-mendation of a Muslim cleric and academic, Shaykh Misbahudeen Orimadegun in his lecture titled Engendering Ethno-religious Harmony in Nigeria: Problems and Prospects delivered at the 1435AH (2014) Annual Ramadan Lecture organ-ized by the Muslim Community of Fountain University, Osogbo, State of Osun on July 1, 2014 at Eti-Osa Auditorium of the University. The renowned Islamic public speaker and Chief Imam, Osun State Polytechnic, Iree used historical lane as premise to establish that self-aggrandized politics is the bane of all conflicts plaguing the peace of the nation and retarding our progress.

Speaking earlier in his opening address, Prof. Bashir Ademola Raji, the Vice-Chancellor of the university after giving a brief chronicle of the nation, identi-fied religious and ethnic profiling as the bane of the crises in the nation. He therefore advised Nigerians to desist from this devil dividing us and hamper-ing our harmony as a nation.

Among other dignitaries at the occasion were the Olufon of Ifon Orolu, HRH, Oba Magbagbeola El-Maruf, Olumoyero II and Aragbiji of Iragbuji Land, HRH, Oba Abdur-Rasheed Olabomi, Odundun I who were unanimous on teaching our children Yoruba language and its cultural heritage to fend off the sorry state we find our-selves and restore peace and harmony in the country.

The programme which was well attended from within and outside the univer-sity saw in attendance all the principal officers of the university and many big guns in Osogbo and environs including the NASFAT Chairman, South-West Zone 6, the provost of Osun State University, Osogbo Campus, Prof Gbolagade, W.A, just to mention but a few.

ACADEMIC / STAFF NEWS FUO POLITICAL SCIENCE DEPARTMENT HOLDS ROUNDTABLE ON ELEC-TORAL TRANSITION IN NIGERIA

A round-table on issues bordering on electoral transition in Nigeria has been organised by the Department of Political Science & International Relations. The programme, which was held at the Eti-Osa Lecture Theatre, was a dis-

cussion session on issues that sur-round electoral transition in Nigeria with a focus on the Ekiti and Osun governorship elections. It had in attendance key stakeholders from the academic, pen pushers, NGO and INEC. Among the discussants were Dr. Bolaji Omitola (Political Science Dept., UNIOSUN); Comrade Biodun Olalere (Osun NUJ Chairman); Alh. Wasiu Olatunji (representative from

INEC) and Dr. Martins Odugbenga (State Director, National Orientation Agency). The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Bashiru Ademola Raji, represented by the Univer-sity Librarian, Dr. B.O Gbadamosi in his opening speech set the tone for the discussion while the Co-ordinator of the Department, Mr. Animashaun laid an appropriate background for the talk.

Dr. Isiaka Adams who anchored the session took the particapants on a voy-age of the issues militating against smooth, credible and acceptable elections in Nigeria.
