We know our seniors are working hard to prepare for the next phase of their lives. Over the past few years a small number of students, who mistakenly believe that they represent the entire graduating class, carry out what they refer to as a “grad prank.” Students do not realize the impact of their actions and often what is seen as small and harmless can have serious unexpected consequences. In the past these pranks have involved vandalism, assault, and animal cruelty. The outcome of these illegal activities has resulted in tens of thousands of dollars in property damage, injury, arrests, suspensions and criminal charges. To ensure a safe end of the year for everyone we have a strict no prank policy in place. Students engaging in any prank will face possible suspension from school, police involvement, and exclusion from participating in the graduation ceremony. Last year I am proud to say that most of our students responded very positively to our no prank policy and we had only one incident. Unfortunately one student did decide to pull the fire alarm as a “prank.” The result was that he was charged criminally and unable to attend graduation. It was disheartening to see what should be a celebration end in such a negative light. We are asking that you, the families of our senior students, spend a few important minutes discussing the lasting positive legacy that our graduates will leave behind. We are also asking for your support to ensure that the last weeks of school showcase the great talents, leadership and citizenship that ECSS students regularly demonstrate and of which they should be proud.
