Early Childhood Nicci Kenning

I have been working in summer camps since Summer 2010. I started with Preschoolers in Vancouver at False Creek Community Centre on Granville Island. My last two years have been with Saanich.

I enjoy structuring a fun and safe environment where kids can feel free to just be kids. Arts and Crafts are a passion of mine. I enjoy sharing this and try to encourage all children to explore their own creativity in whatever way feels best for them. I also enjoy having the opportunity to meet new friends.

Nathan Chen-MackI have been involved with summer camps at Saanich for 2 years. I love being able to spend my summer playing awesome games and going on cool day trips with all the campers and getting to know all the kids really well. I’m most passionate about establishing relationships with the campers. It’s really nice to make some enjoyable memories with them at summer camp.

I also thoroughly enjoy when I run into campers even after the summer and just talk and see how they’re doing. I believe that the children will enjoy the busyness of all the activities, crafts, day trips and games that we have planned for them this year! Summer camp is going to be full of fun opportunities for the campers this year!

Sarah LoebCommonwealth Camp

This is my fourth year working summer camps with Saanich. What I enjoy most about summer camp is playing eld games in the sunshine with other camps.

I am passionate about making camp an awesome experience for everybody and I think my campers will most enjoy the weekly themes and how much we all get into them.

Once upon a time, there was a world without video games and movies. This was a time when adventures were lived and remembered. Through animation, thrilling games, hilarious songs and a little creativity we bring the summer to life for your children. Each week is a new chapter in our story that will navigate us to the Land bephore Time. Join us for one week or the whole summer in “the land of PhuN”!

Saanich Neighbourhood Playground Programs are safe, well supervised, high quality and affordable day camp programs delivered in a park setting with plenty of active, imaginative play. Staff is enthusiastic, has current fi rst aid, criminal record checks and has received training in child protection procedures. This unique program receives additional funding to help keep fees low for parents. A little rain…. No problem, we have indoor facilities available for poor weather. Taylor HackettI have been working in the Saanich summer camps programs for 5 years!

What I love most about being a summer camp leader is that I get to work and play outside during our beautiful Victoria summers. I love that my job includes playing wacky eld and water games, exploring beaches and forests, and enjoying the summer sun.

I am most passionate about working with the children and families of our Saanich community. I love building relationships with the children I meet in my camps, seeing them grow summer to summer, as well as helping them stretch their comfort zones and get active and outdoors. I believe children will enjoy the fun, active experience that we have together at camp.

EXTENDED CAMP - WEEKLY 5½ -12yrsThis is a supervised time before and after camp when children can play games or work on arts & crafts.

Maddie Taylor2014 will be my sixth year working for Saanich (all with SNPP), I have progressed working through Saanich's internship program to an on call leader to full time staff to a YL1.

I adore working with children and my amazing coworkers as well as the community at Saanich. I love being outdoors, having a ridiculous amount of fun and being able to act like a kid. I love being able to come to work excited and every day face a brand new challenge (or challenges), even going into my sixth year- nothing is ever boring or the same.

I love feeling like I make a real impact on people's lives- whether it is the bracelet still on my wrist (eight months later) from a camper I've worked with for three years or the parent begging to know if I'll be back next June in August I love how much everyone uses their creativity to the absolute fullest to create a thoughtful, engaging, exible, safe and truly fun program for our campers all summer long.

Summer Camps

Samantha Lynch

Sundance with a Splash This summer will be my fth year working in summer camps!  Being a summer camp leader is the absolute best job around -- it doesn’t even feel like a job! I love getting to know all the awesome camp participants, and getting to play all day! As a summer camp leader, I am most passionate about nding new, fun ways to integrate healthy physical activity into everyday life! I am also very passionate about trying to explore ways to adapt games and activities for varying levels and ages. In Sundance with a Splash, children will enjoy the high energy and variety that I bring! I am so excited to be able to play in the water -- I am a bit of a sh myself, so can’t wait to explore more water-based games and activities!

Alex SmithI have been working in summer camps for 6 years! Each and every day, we get the opportunity to explore, play, laugh, learn, and have fun! My favourite part of being a leader is…all of the above! Being a leader gives me the chance to be young again, go on adventures everyday, and create memories with other campers and leaders that will last a lifetime. But I think what I like most is that I nd myself smiling and laughing a lot during the day; more than any other job I’ve ever had.

I am most passionate about experiencing new things. I am so lucky to have the opportunity to meet so many new people and get to know many amazing campers throughout the summer. Anything is possible at camp so who knows, you might discover something you never knew you liked or something you never thought you could do: like trying new sports, learning new crafts and games, or pushing yourself to achieve something. Camp is where you not only learn about others but also you learn new things about yourself!

Summer Camps

Jessica PattenThis is my 3rd summer as a Camp Leader at Gordon Head, but I have worked in Saanich for over 11 years in Aquatics! The best part about working in camps over July/August is that I get to enjoy all the best parts of summer (sunshine, swimming, outdoor activities) but it’s all part of my job! Who could ask for anything better?

I am de nitely most passionate about working with children and helping them to have the best experience possible when they attend my camps. I always keep in mind that it’s their summer break – and that means that I strive to make sure that they have a great time interacting with the other campers while participating in fun activities. I think that the kids that attend my camps will most enjoy the variety of activities they will get to do (such as swimming, games, crafts, and out-trip adventures) in an atmosphere that promotes respect, safety, and most importantly – FUN!

Jessica Patten

Emily MillsThis will be my fourth year working in Saanich summer camps!

My favourite part about being a summer camp leader is getting to have fun with such amazing campers! I love to see campers make friends throughout the week. Even if they don’t know anyone coming into camp, they will de nitely be having fun with new friends by the end of Wilderness Adventure!

I am most passionate about getting outside and having fun! The best part about my job as a camp leader is having the ability to do what I love, while sharing these activities with campers! It’s great to see everyone having fun outside, and maybe even discovering a new activity that they love!

I think campers are going to love Wilderness Adventure, because they will be able to have fun doing new and exciting activities, as well as learn about the outdoors! Campers will learn survival skills, re-building, shelter-making, as well as many other skills that will be useful when spending time in the great outdoors!

Greg Van DykNine years ago I had a taste of summer camp fun as a junior leader in Saanich's "Teens in Action" program – and I've been back every year since! Moving up in leadership each summer, I have often had the opportunity to mentor junior leaders who are in the same place that I was years ago. My favourite part about being a summer camp leader is the fantastic kids that come through our programs -- they're hilarious, creative, and often teach me more than I realize. This summer, youth in my camps will love the action-packed weeks and incredible out-trips. Hands down, this will be the best way to spend your summer!

Neal Donegani I have been leading the Skateboard Camps for 5 years and counting. I enjoy getting to know the great campers, working with fun staff, and being out in the wonderful south-island weather. I like showing campers something new, and learning something new from the campers. Campers will enjoy the skateboarding, of course,  plus all the other fun activities that we do around skateboarding.
