This is the day we got confirmation from Jacob’s oncologist that he had Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) - also known as Childhood Leukemia. As you can imagine, we were devastated by this news especially given everything else our precious angel Jacob has gone through in his life. Including having Down syndrome, Jacob has had over twenty surgeries and over fifty-five procedures (over 8 spinal taps, GI, heart, ENT, eye, IV port for chemotherapy, etc). Despite everything he’s been through, Jacob’s fun-loving and energetic spirit to succeed in life has never left him. Along with Jacob’s diagnosis of Leukemia, he lost all of his self-help skills in November 2009 and is just now starting to get all those skills back! Jacob has another three years of chemotherapy including pills every day, treatment through his IV port once a month, and spinal taps every three months. Words cannot express what we have been going through but we must say that we are overwhelmed by the amount of love, support and prayers we have received this past year.
