GENERAL

1. AWSA has had a lot of issues in the past few years with jump setups; The JUMP event is one of the most demanding (requires the most time) to ensure everything is correct. Ensure that you provide enough time to make sure it correct prior to the tournament.

2. Problems- Setup not correct/check buoy not verified; Jump distances recorded were not correct, which effects the ranking list and national qualification. Therefore, it is very important that we ensure that it is correct prior to tournament.

3. IF a problem is found after the event that caused the distance to be incorrect, it is not up to the TC to correct. It requires the judges to re-plot/measure after the problem is corrected by the TC. Or the scores are to be removed from the score book.

4. TC Report- Make sure the jump ramp deviation is adequately recorded.5. TC Report- Make sure that the check buoy was verified: computer X/Y, Survey

X/Y are recorded and are within tolerance.6. DUE TO ALL THE PROBLEMS- PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU REVIEW THIS MODULE

IN DETAIL, JUST AS SETTING UP A JUMP TOURNAMENT.

Page 3: JUMP MODULE. GENERAL 1.AWSA has had a lot of issues in the past few years with jump setups; The JUMP event is one of the most demanding (requires the.

JUMP RAMP

1) Jump 12 ft min width & 24ft min length, some ski fly 26ft, Most all jumps are 14 ft wide and 24 ft long. If building a jump I would recommend making it slightly longer than 24 ft.

2) Jump surface shall have marks at the top on each side: 6.4m (21’)/6.8m (22’ -3.75 “).3) Minimum jump surface under the water (50cm -20”) –THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE.4) Jump height and length ratio tolerance (+/- .003); 5ft =0.235, 5.5”=0.255, 6ft=.0.271

(Ratio=height/surface(surface out of water). 5) Jump surface deviation is no more than 2.5cm (1”).

Take a string with a block between the surface and string, and measure the deviation; Corner to corner, down the center, and recommend the skier path (12” from bottom corner to 18-24” from top corner). Most jumps have a convex at bottom (from hinge pin). Older wooden jump have a concave deviation in the center. ENSURE that the top section does NOT have a CONVEX surface. The top section is to be flat.

6) INSPECT jump surface to ensure no screws are up that could cause damage.7) INSPECT flotation – one of the most important things for a great jump is adequate

flotation.

Page 4: JUMP MODULE. GENERAL 1.AWSA has had a lot of issues in the past few years with jump setups; The JUMP event is one of the most demanding (requires the.

JUMP RAMP cont.

8. Apron angle (Recom 30 deg) and at least the min length of 20cm (8”) is under the water. The length of apron out of wtr,= Sq Root of sum of Jump Height + distance between apron and jump platform at wtr edge). O rthe jump height divided by the length of the apron edge from the top corner of the jump platform to the water to equal .500 to .883.

9) Ramp should be 2 deg from parallel with boat path. Should have a Jump C/L buoy in front of jump and HEXM marker (PVC pipe) on each side at shore line that lines up with the jump surface front/top edge. This allows quick view to ensure that the jump has not moved.

10) Anchors- Ensure line is secured and the jump does not move around.

Page 5: JUMP MODULE. GENERAL 1.AWSA has had a lot of issues in the past few years with jump setups; The JUMP event is one of the most demanding (requires the.

JUMP COURSE:

1) Jump Course starts at the 180m cut-out buoy and ends at the 100m end-course buoys.

2) END Course buoys (old ride out) are required to be installed- Ensuring that the boat path is straight thru the entire course.

3) Buoys size applies to jump course. Recommend using cylindrical (S-1) vs round buoys for boat guides to prevent rope from catching buoy (example 15MT/ET).

4) For Elite Tournament, End-course video is required for jump boat path.

Page 7: JUMP MODULE. GENERAL 1.AWSA has had a lot of issues in the past few years with jump setups; The JUMP event is one of the most demanding (requires the.

Grid Setup: 1) Bob Corson VJ and Splasheye uses the same grid setup (Box grid per camera).2) Camera are normally set at approx 18 ft or higher above water. 3) Dave Clark has several programs to help setup VJ Grid. VJVIEW16- Input location of

camera and grid buoys and the spreadsheet calculates if setup is acceptable or not.(see example of VJVIEW16)

4) The camera angle view cannot be wider than 30deg. , distortion and distance on edge will be outside of allowable tolerance. ZOOM IN.

5) VJGRID11 – Can be used to measure grid buoys with tape measure to determine the X and Y Coordinates for Class C tournament.

6) Coordinate: X = is the distance from Jump C/L (parallel with the 15s)., -X is the distance behind the Jump C.L. -Y is the distance on Left side of jump, +Y is the distance on Right side of jump as if you were standing on top of jump and looking out towards landing zone.

7) Next slides are two example from TC manual, The TC manual has several examples.8) Felix system uses 2 cameras and 3 buoys in line (the location of cameras and buoys

are required). IF a 2 grid setup is required, 4 cameras and 2 to 3 additional buoys depending on setup. Advantage – Camera height is not required as in the Box Grid Setup above.

9) ENSURE there are NO extra buoys/anchors where a buoy can be installed incorrectly/plotted after survey complete.

VIDEO JUMP PROGRAMS

There are 4 Video Jump program that are approved by IWWF/AWSA:Bob Corson VJ, Splasheye, Boetcher, and for 2012 Felix Loreto has developed a new jump program, Grid and setup for Loreto system and Boetcher are similar. And Corson and Splasheye are similar. Corson and Loreto are off the shelf equip, were Splasheye and Boetcher are not.. All system have all 3 event. Slalom Gates, EC, Trick and Jump

Systems: Corson’s VJ can be downloaded from AWSA under TC Resource and loaded on any computer with Win XP for free. A video Capture card is required.Loreto will sell just the program (approx $2000.00) or complete system. Splasheye (Approx $7000.00 include computer/capture cards), and Boetcher has to be purchased as a unit.

Note: All the jump program add 2.1m to the first point of impact for the distance, because when using Johnson-type meter stations, the distance was measured from the plume. It was determine that the plume (feet landing on water) is approx. 2.1m from first impact (tail hitting water).Differential Tolerance is acceptable when measuring jump: Class R =4 inches, Class L/E= 6 in, Class C =8 inches.

VIDEO JUMP PROGRAMS cont.

TC Committee may approve the use of system for measuring jump based on other technologies, provided proof at least 60 day before use. Currently theres 4 systems. Corson, Splasheye, Boetcher and Felix Loreto (2012).

FUTURE Technology – With new cameras and video capture device (Hi-definition) price dropping, in the future we should be able to move away from the 640x480, and get into 720 or even 1080. Using HI definition we can put 2 grids (traditional grid setup) in as one grid, covering longer distance without having the distortion.

Page 14: JUMP MODULE. GENERAL 1.AWSA has had a lot of issues in the past few years with jump setups; The JUMP event is one of the most demanding (requires the.

Video Jump Equip

1) Any security or camcorder will work. Field of view cannot be more than 30deg2) Cables: Can use Cat5 with baluns (Muxlab # 500024) that provide video and power, Siamese Coax (coax w 2 16g wire) provide video and power, or just separate power supply at the camera and coax. DO NOT RECOMMEND wireless.3) Backup Capture device: VCRs is one old capture device. DVR work better.TiVo series 2 can be used. They have a 30min buffer even though you do not have a monthly subscription. Some of the older DVR with life time prescriptions also will work. Example: Panasonic PV-HS2000 (it has a 6 sec playback witch work great for VJ), there also a bypass code to bypass the guide channel setup. Caution: When purchasing a DVR ensure that the rewind/payback is acceptable, several DVR do not have an acceptable rewind/playback. 4) Video Capture BC System: Several capture device are acceptable. ATI All-In- Wonder (card for desktop computer) or ATI All-In-Wonder USB 2 or Pinnacle’s Dazzle(the white one) for laptop computers. For Jump recommend setting capture rate at 15fps. Ensure that you have selected the correct compression file. If incorrect, you have a lot of dropped frames.

VIDEO JUMP PROGRAM SETUP/VERIFICATION

1. If using a DVR as backup, ensure that you computer input is going thru the DVR. The DVR may compress the file, therefore, the playback view is not the same as live input. The grid buoys will not be the same placement.

2. Verify Check buoy is correct. (had major problems past several years where the check buoy did not line up with the survey)

3. Verify the landing zone meets the event class. The program has a check to identify the setup classification.

4. Verify the setup is in tolerance by moving on pixel up/down/left/right to ensure that the difference in distance meets the requirement (10/15/20cm).

5. Playback and verify that the grid is same location; and measure a point live and playback to verify it’s the same.

Comment Section

Note: Add any additional comments, explanation or data that will be of assistance in the independent verification of this pending record performance. After the overall record was determined, I re-measured the ropes and handles. The slalom handle was measured prior to her skiing, and we only used the one slalom rope. Her jump rope and handle were measured prior to her skiing. I re measured her jump rope and handle. Everything was in tolerance. All the slalom video (boat wireless feed, gates and end course), jump pics and trick video have been submitted to TC to review for Women World Overall Record. The trick has been submitted for Women World Trick Record (1st woman over 10,000 pts). Jerry Jackson

SURVEY

See GENERAL module for basic guidelines and TC Manual for more details.

Jump Specific:

Setup in front of jump between the MT and ET if one point.

Jump Hx – Recommend survey both corners of jump as one method and then survey the Hx mark on shore and compare.Ensure that there is a HX mark on shore and buoy in front of jump C/L in case the jump breaks loose during the tournament. The jump can be placed back in place without effecting any jump distance.

Jump survey program is based on the 15m line. Ensure these buoy are in line prior to surveying. (As a check, in lieu of inputting the 15EC buoy in the spreadsheet, input the 15MT in place of the 15EC to verify, then input the 15EC and see if any changes. The 15EC is the furthest buoy and a lot of times is out of place. If not lined up, it throws everything out..
