  • In response to these two-pronged challenges for mas-sage therapists we shall be launching our Distance Learn-ing Program (DLP) otherwise known at AWSA as Blended Coursework on Massage Ther-apy (BCMT), says Eugenio.

Here the required two hun-dred eighty six (286) hours shall be completed both in workplace/home and class-room settings.

Mechanisms are in place to make sure that this new pro-gram shall not compromise quality standards expected by the Department of Health.

Quite interestingly, this dis-tance learning program shall also enable busy spa managers or operators and massage therapists in nearby provinces such as Bulacan, Laguna and others, to avail of the same.

The Skyway Stage 3 Con-struction Project is expected to cause serious challenges both to motorists and com-muters alike in the days to come.

According to MMDA Chief Francis Tolentino, "This is a construction of massive proportion that would last 32 months. Building this alternative highway is expected to cre-ate traffic problems so eve-ryone should make adjust-ments.

Taking cognizant of this startling development in the

metropolis and how it shall adversely affect the chance of massage therapists to earn their Department of Health massage license, AWSA (Asian Wellness and Spa Academy) Presi-dent, Benjamin Eugenio Jr, came up with an alternative learning solution.

Actually there are two (2) major challenges massage therapists in Metro Manila shall be facing this year: first, the deadline of the moratorium for mandatory licensing of massage thera-pists per Department of Health (DOH) Administra-tive Order 2010-0034, re-vised implementing rules and regulations governing massage clinics and sauna bath establishments. Sec-ond, the much-anticipated prolonged traffic gridlock in the metropolis.

    NEW PROGRAMS FOR DOH EXAMS

Asian Wellness and Spa Academy (AWSA) is pleased to announce its three-pronged approach to the DOH Massage Licen-sure Examinations, as fol-lows: 1) Regular Course-work on Massage Therapy (RCMT); 2) Blended Coursework on Massage Therapy (BCMT); and 3) Online Coursework on Massage Therapy (OMTC).

The RCMT is meant to provide an intensive class-room instructions to help ensure a good grasp of the

students on the lessons and materials for the DOH exams. The BCMT is de-signed to answer to the need for students more flexibility in learning due to constraints such as time and distance. The OMT is especially crafted for Over-seas Filipino Workers (OFW) who wishes to earn their license while working abroad. The strategy to-wards DOH massage ex-ams may vary but its total required time for training on each is the same. Every student must have at least

two hundred eighty-six (286) study and training time.

Mechanisms are in place to help ensure and maintain quality program and activi-ties.

The Department of Health employs high training cri-teria amongst licensure-hopefuls. This is primarily to help protect the public from unscrupulous mas-sage practices, according to Dr Josephine Hipolito of the DOH Committee of Examiners for Massage Therapy.

Sa Asian Wellness and Spa Acad-emy katamta-man ang matri-kula.
