July and August 2018 - The Outing Club

July and August, The spiking temperatures at the end of May and beginning of June kicked off the pool season with a bang. We saw record attendance on Memorial Day weekend. Our Memorial Day cook out Buffet also set records with more than 225 coming out for lunch. Please keep our other summer holidays in mind, Independence Day is coming up! The pool will be open 10AM- 6PM and Chef’s July 4th buffet will be available from 11AM-2PM. Please call or e-mail and let us know if you will be dining on the patio, pool deck, or pub. We are planning to add additional seating to be ready for a great day by the pool. Cam and the guards are also planning lots of family fun and games that day as well. On the subject of record setting we are heading for a record wedding season as well. We have a wedding reception almost every weekend. We, as always, will do our best to serve our members around these events. Check with the club house on our seating options for these events. The new Climbing Wall has been a huge hit, literally. I have witnessed some really great splashes! Please keep in mind, that everyone must use the red, yellow and orange climbing grips only! Grabbing on to the pipe framing is very dangerous. If you are up to the challenge, try climbing the red grips as they are the most challenging. Yellow grips are the easiest. Any way you look at it is great fun! Make sure to please obey the posted safety sign no matter where they are at on the pool deck. We have a lot of great dining coming up around the Clubhouse. Chef Jason’s July Brunch will feature Southwest cuisine and in August, Southern Fried Chicken and Waffles. The First week of July we are planning an outdoor Wine event with some great northwest inspired foods and classic rock music. The featured wines will be from Charles and Charles Wines. If you are not familiar with this winery it was founded in 2008 by two really rebellious rockers with the goal to make amazing Rose. Their portfolio has expanded to cover a wide spectrum. The wine makers are Charles Smith and Charles Bieler which alone each have great history with K Vintners, Three Theives, Beiler Pere et Fils, etc. Everyone’s July will be packed with fun, travel, and local events like the John Deere Classic, Mississippi Valley Fair and Bix 7 run. We have plenty options as well! Make plans to attend the second annual Car Show and Hog Roast. At the Snack Shack this summer, we have added a new option, a wholesome superfood cookie. It has no artificial ingredients, dairy free, egg free, vegan, gluten-free and soy free. These grab n’ go treats called Kakookies and are available in: Almond Cranberry, Boundary Waters Blueberry, Cashew Blondie and Dark Chocolate Cranberry. The Wellness Center’s new cardio equipment is in and is a great upgrade to the facili ty. If you have not had a chance to try some of the new pieces of equipment please let Anne, Cam or I know as we can help you become acclimated. Our Tennis pro Maria has her program in full swing on both the tennis and pickle ball courts. All are welcome to join in her Ladies, Men’s and Youth clinics. They are instructional and fun! Otter’s Home Swim Team Meet is scheduled for July 11 th . We will be packed that day as all the Quad City Clubs converse on our pool. The dinner buffet that evening is open to everyone so make plans to come support your Outing Club Otters Swim Team. I conclude this newsletter with a great quote by Thomas Edison, “There’s a way to do it better – find it.” Nearly everything we do at the club or in life can be done better. The optimist in me is always looking for ways that things can be done better. As a result of the club continuing to strive for better service and amenities, we are attracting some of the best people in our community to be our members. Thank you to all the membership for their recruitment efforts this summer! The summer food and beverage credit offer will continue through July and August. So tell your friends and neighbors it could net you a $250 credit on your account. See you at the Club!
