SUNDAY CONNECTION

Today’s reading from Matthew’s Gospel comes after a discourse in which Jesus reproaches people who have witnessed his mighty deeds yet still lack belief. In this context, today’s Gospel explains the reason for this unbelief and reveals what is necessary for faith. Today’s Gospel also continues to enhance our understanding of discipleship as last week’s Gospel did. Jesus first prays in thanksgiving to God who has made himself known to Jesus’ disciples. He praises God who has made himself known to the “little ones” and not to the wise and learned. As in other recent readings from Matthew’s Gospel, a contrast is made here between the unbelieving Pharisees, who are wise and learned, and the faithful disciples, tax collectors, and sinners with whom Jesus keeps company. The second part of this reading calls to our attention the unity between the Father and the Son. God has made himself known through Jesus, and in knowing Jesus, we come to know the Father. In Jesus’ life and in his person, God reveals himself to us. In the concluding sentences of today’s Gospel, Jesus’ teaching is again contrasted to the teaching of the Pharisees. This common theme of Matthew’s Gospel probably reflects tension that existed between Jesus and the Pharisees and between the Pharisees and the community of Christians for whom Matthew wrote. Pharisaic Judaism became the predominant form of Judaism after the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem about 70 A.D. Here that tension is expressed as alternative paths of holiness. The careful observance of the Mosaic law taught by the Pharisees could be experienced by some as difficult and burdensome. In contrast, Jesus’ way of holiness is presented as uncomplicated and even restful.

CONSTRUCTION IN PROGRESS With all permits in place, we were finally able

to break ground and have started construction.

Thank you for your support in our efforts to build a Grotto and Prayer Garden to honor our patroness, Our Lady of Lourdes. However, we need to continue to raise the rest of the funds to cover the entire cost of the project in the months to come as building costs tend to increase yearly. Please, continue supporting this lasting memorial of our faith and devotion to Blessed Mary. We solely rely on your generous contributions and prayers to bring to completion this testimonial of our Catholic faith.

Please contact the Parish Office at (561) 483 2440

LOURDES GROTTO & PRAYER GARDEN

The Tree of Life offers you a great opportunity to remember your loved ones in a very tasteful way while you make a contribution to your Parish. Each brass leaf holds more than the name of your father or mother, husband or wife, son or daughter. It is a memorial of gratitude meant to last. For more information, please contact the Parish Office. May God bless you.

Call the Parish Office

Our Lady of Lourdes welcomes charitable donations made by bequest through your Will or through Trust. In remembering our Church you also leave a lasting legacy. There are various forms of bequests that you may make. For example, the proceeds of an unrestricted bequest may be used where needed, whereas a restricted bequest specifies the use of the donation. Bequests may come in the form of a specific dollar amount, securities, real estate, tangible property, and retirement account assets. A residuary bequest allows Our Lady of Lourdes to receive all or a percentage of your estate after all obligations have been met. If a Will or Trust already exists, an amendment can be done by an attorney through a document called a codicil, which adds a new bequest. Our Lady of Lourdes is a charitable, not-for-profit institution; therefore, all bequests are fully deductible for estate tax purposes.

Wills & Bequests A Bequest, a gift of money or assets left through your will, is vital to your Parish Church and the people the Church serves. It is a unique gift and an investment in the future. By leaving a bequest you are making a lasting difference in the life of the Parish community.

Dear Parish Family: Have you considered e-Giving ?? e-Giving is a convenient way of automatically giving your offertory or other contributions online using your checking account, credit or debit card. The convenience of not having to worry about weekly envelopes or writing a check before you rush to attend Sunday morning Mass is absolutely valuable for many. e-Giving guarantees the delivery of your offering on a timely and a predetermined fashion designed by the parishioner, with minimal cost to the Parish. If you decide that this is a convenient way of making your offertories, please fill out our e-giving form and drop it in the offertory basket in a sealed envelop the next time you attend Mass, or bring it to the Office. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact our Office of Finance

ARE YOU AN ACTIVE PARISHIONER?

A Parish is not simply a "branch office" of the Church, nor a periodic audience of people, nor an occasional public; but it is a formally organized social group. It is a portion of a Diocese under the authority of a priest legitimately appointed to secure in virtue of his office for the faithful dwelling therein, the helps of religion.

The faithful are called parishioners, and they become parishioners by acquiring a domicile or a quasi-domicile within the geographical boundaries or territory of the Parish.

Parishioners could be active parishioners or non active parishioners, and the question of parishioner status is important because parishioners look to their Parish for many services:

parishioner tuition rates in our Catholic schools; the use of our facilities for liturgical services such as baptisms, weddings and funerals; and certification as eligible sponsors at Sacramental celebrations.

These rights and services within the church bring with them certain obligations, as in any form of community.

To be considered “active,” a parishioners must be registered in the parish; attend Mass faithfully; support the life of the parish by sharing time and talents in service, and sharing treasure (tithing) to build up the community. Active participation in Christian Stewardship makes you an ACTIVE parishioner.
