under Marketing (previously report- ed under Education), mainstream media is reported under Marketing (previously reported under Commu- nication) and awards are reported under Recognition (previously re- ported under Professional Practic- es.) It will be very important to review the chapter award criteria in the Handbook for Administration and Organization now, so you will be prepared once you start compiling the awards at the end of the year. To encourage planning, one of the biggest changes is the requirement to submit a plan in each category (Education, Communication, Chap- ter Development, Recognition and Marketing). The first plans are due October 1, 2012. Any chapter who submits a chapter award for contest year 2012 and completes and sub- mits the plans by October 1 st will receive chapter activity points for submitting the plans. To facilitate this, a sample plan for each chapter award category has been provided in the Handbook. The new criteria for the chapter awards were approved the 2011- 2012 board of directors at their final meeting in Spokane, Washington. The new chapter award criteria is effective immediately for the 2012 contest year. This means the chapter awards submitted by March 1, 2013, for activities that took place in 2012, fall under the new criteria. In the summer of 2010, the Award Redesign Team was established to review the current awards structure and determine if changes were needed. Shortly after that, a mem- ber online survey was conducted to gather input and suggestions about the awards program. During 2010, changes were approved to the mem- bership awards and in 2011 chang- es were approved to the individual and group awards, based on the survey results. The redesign of the chapter awards was the last step in the redesign process. The 2011-2012 Board of Directors approved a strategic plan and reor- ganization of the IAWP committee structure. The redesign of the chap- ter awards is now similar to the new committee structure. The new chapter award categories are: Edu- cation, Communication, Chapter Development, Recognition and Marketing. (Previously they were Education, Communication, Profes- sional Practices and Legislation.) Many of the activities that are re- ported in the chapter awards re- main unchanged, but where some of the activities are reported have changed. Deadlines abound as the new administrative year gets underway! The next in-person 2012-2013 board of directors meeting will be September 28-29, 2012, at the Hamp-ton Inn in Louisville, KY. Thank you for completing the registration form and returning it to Director of Administration and Conference Planning, Mary Riddell at [email protected] by August 1st. The staff will make all room reservations, room assignments and travel arrangements using these registration forms. Your flights will be booked and you will receive your itineraries.

If you have items that you would like to add to the agenda, please contact either Mary Riddell at [email protected] or President Upchurch at [email protected] by August 31st to as-sure you receive time on the agenda. ALL district reports and committee/subcommittee reports should be sent to Mary by September 15th. The reports will be compiled and placed in PDF format for each board meeting attendee to print and read prior to arriving at the meeting. This will ensure the business conducted at our board meeting can reflect points of action needed. The package will be distributed via email no later than Septem-ber 20th.

During contest year 2011, twelve chapters submitted

award nominations that accrued chapter activity points.

So, why are that so few chapters are submitting

awards? That’s the mystery we are asking for your

help to solve. Below are the results of the chapter activ-

ity points for those 12 chapters. All other chapters re-

ceived zero points. We know a lot of the chapters held

award contests, presented training, published newslet-

ters and conducted service projects, but for some rea-

son wasn’t able to document and submit their activities.

Please—we want to hear from you!

Send your ideas on how to increase participation in the

chapter achievement contest to [email protected].

In late 2011, a council was formed to plan IAWP’s 100th Anniversary Centennial. Under the direction of President Nancy Upchurch, the Council will plan and organize how the Centennial will be portrayed on the website, in a commemorative book and in the Work-force Professional, and will develop other ave-nues of celebration.

Several projects are already underway and this council will solicit additional ideas, devel-op and coordinate fundraising activities and engage other IAWP members to volunteer

where needed throughout the celebration period.

CENTENNIAL PINS FOR SALE

As we reflect on the past administrative year, our association has gone through a lot of changes. It was a year of tremendous growth for our organization both at the local chapter level as well as at the International level. There has been an increase of attendance reported at many of the conferences that have already taken place. California has reported that there has been a gradual increase in all their conferences for the last year and they are looking for an increase again this coming October. Ohio, Oregon and Washington DC have experienced similar results. This is truly good news especially as we approach the celebration of our 100th anniversary. Our centennial planning team is hard at work to make this an event that we all will be proud of. The assignments have been dealt and I have accepted my challenge to head one important commitment. We need to have a great and super fantastic centennial pin that says what we are all about and celebrate our mile stone. I have thought of several different ways to get this accomplished and then it came to me. Create a contest where all members have a chance to develop and design the official Centennial pin for 2013. The contest is over and we have a winning pin that I think everyone will be happy with. We currently have a vendor making the pins and will have them ready for sale soon. Yes, you can be the very first person in your chapter to get the centennial pin. As you know the sale of the pins are a fundraiser as well as a commemorative item. We will be selling the pins on a pre-sales basis for $10.00 through the end of this year. Starting in January 2013 the cost will go up to $15.00 a pin, so calculate how many pins you will need and place your orders early and save. Good enough for gift giving. Order form: Orders will be filled in the order that they are received. Please allow 3 to 4 weeks for delivery. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ———————————— Pre- Sale Centennial Pin Order Form PLEASE PRINT Date: ________________________

Notes from Nancy: an IAWP blog from the President . . . This is a blog to document my journey up to and through the presidency of the International Association of Workforce Professionals. I want to use this blog as a way to keep members informed of IAWP activities and I hope that IAWP members will leave me comments and suggestions on improved our association.

Several members have expressed concern about the requirement of 6 newsletters a year to get maximum points for frequency in the Communication Award. Members/chapters are encouraged to express their feelings about the frequency by voting on the President’s blog at http://nancyiniawp.blogspot.com/. Or refer to www.iawponline.org main page for “Notes from Nancy’s Blog”.

Voting is open through the end of the month on this issue.
