Prayer Requests
Today I want to begin by challenging you about your giving. The Bible says that "mancannot serve two masters. We must love the one and hate the other. We cannot loveboth God and money." I am thankful I serve in a church that mostly understands this.
Many of you give sacrificially. I imagine though some could use some direction still inthis matter. Our budget would require that we receive $23 per person. As I state that, some of you know that you already exceed that. To you we say thanks. But may none ofus rest on our laurels.
Could you possibly increase your gift? For those of you who have not taken that step,I want you to begin asking God to help you understand how to trust Him more. God willreward your faithfulness! Scriptures challenge us to "excel in our giving." Are youexcelling? Your gifts leave a trail all around the globe. A percentage of your gift helps
many around the globe hear about Jesus for the first time. During the month ofNovember, we will be challenging our entire church body to "Take God at His word!" Ilook forward to seeing how each of us grow spiritually in this area of giving.
I want to say a big thank you for Ned, Bob, Trent and Ray for working diligently to getour chair lift installed in the fellowship hall. Now all our members will be able toparticipate in activities in the basement.
How fascinating it was hearing the Joplin group report Sunday night. Thank you Kim,
Mike, Deb, Lori, Nancy and Christina for being willing servants and making thedifference in so many lives.
Be sure to check out our website atwww.myfacc.comfor new growth opportunities andupcoming classes that are starting soon. Have a great week!

One Piece: An Analogy (Part 3)
By Glen ShadyThis is the final installment of this series. I am writing this series in
which I draw insights into Christianity from a popular (in Japan) animatedshow called One Piece. This show stars Luffy, a pirate. Even though he is apirate, which has negative connotations of theft and violence, he actuallydoes not conform to this mold as he cares about people and helps them.I wrote last week about Luffys goal to become King of the Pirates and his
willingness to die from that goal. This is the kind of resolve we as
Christians must have in order to properly serve Jesus. In order to becomeKing of the Pirates Luffy must find the ultimate treasure: The One Piece. No one knows what this treasure is, only that it is very special. So Luffy ison this long voyage which has many ups and downs, but he knows thatthere is a special treasure waiting for him in the end. I think there are twoinsights that we can draw from this.
First is that Luffy realizes he cannot obtain this goal alone. So he putstogether a crew that all bring something different to the table. They mayhave their moments of frustration with one another, but in the end they areunited in protecting one another and reaching that ultimate goal together.
Jesus obviously had this same idea. We are not supposed to be alone, floating out in the ocean, hoping to accomplish things by ourselves. Thechurch was created so that we could be unified with like-minded peoplewho love Jesus. The idea is that we can be a stronger force in this worldtogether and we can protect each other as we travel through the treacherousseas of life. To reject the Church is to reject Jesus and all of His efforts toestablish it through 12 seemingly ordinary men. We must embrace eachother and realize that we are allies, not bickering enemies, and we all havea common goal.
The final thing to learn from Luffy is his unwillingness to take his eye off
the prize. Sailing through the seas is fun and adventurous, but the watchersof the show really only endure it because we know that eventually Luffywill reach the One Piece. He will find that special treasure. Our specialtreasure is Heaven. If you take your eye off of that prize, where is yourhope? There can be no greater treasure than an eternity with our lovingGod. To be with him in Heaven is our destiny; the way it is supposed to be.C.S. Lewis captures this idea well, You do not have a soul. You are asoul. You have a body. So whatever time you have left with your body,
use it to secure the fate of your soul. There is no one who loves you morethan Jesus, lets love him back with faithful lives.
