Julius Berger has the capacity to provide in-depth soil investi-gation including both surface and subsurface exploration, utilizing a variety of specialized approaches.
Geotechnical investigation to obtain information on the physical properties of rock, soil and subsoil prior to execution of works is a critical component to the success of every construction project.
Exploring the underground of a construction site allows the assessment of the subsoil conditions and informs earthwork and foundation design for proposed new structures or repair of distressed structures.

Applicable across various soil types
Replacement piling methods support structures with high structural loads such as retaining walls, foundations of multi-storey buildings or watertight excavation pits. Even under difficult soil conditions, the rotary drilling techniques applied by Julius Berger deliver high performance rates through customizable drilling tools that penetrate obstacles like reinforced concrete, steel or wood.
The result is an opportunity for high performance deep foundation solutions, applicable for a wide range of soil types and suitable for restrictive work environments.
Types of replacement piles
Bored piles: cased rotary drilling with Kelly-System
Bored piles: cased/uncased and slurry-supported rotary drilling with Kelly-System
Large diameter piles by grab excavation

Retaining systems
Soil nails with or without shotcrete application
Sheet piles
Bored pile walls: tangential, intermittent with intermediate infill, secant
Diaphragm wall
Especially in urban areas, superstructures are often planned with underground floors or carparks and a minimum clear distance to neighbouring structures.
In order to secure a construction pit or slope from collapsing, as well as to protect adjacent structures from possible negative impact, Julius Berger offers wall and slope engineering to implement sufficient retaining systems. Retaining systems are also required for grounds with poor soil properties or high groundwater tables and for quay walls, to resist heavy impact loads and chemical attack.

Julius Berger’s piling and geotechnical specialists are experts in drilling highly productive wells for town and infrastructure water supply projects, including aquifer separations with a proprietary method. In addition, exploration drillings with continuous coring for mineral prospecting is available.
Julius Berger offers holistic well drilling solutions, such as geotechnical measurements to define the ideal location for a water well, design based on international standards, material procurement, manufacturing and installation.
Usage of wells
Groundwater level measurement
Artificial groundwater recharge wells
Exploration core drillings for minerals
Dewatering wells

Load bearing tests Axial static load tests: dead loads,
anchor heads, reaction piles, Osterberg cells
Lateral static load tests
High strain dynamic tests
Integrity tests Low strain integrity tests
Cross hole sonic tests
Ultrasonic inspections
Julius Berger conducts advanced testing and monitoring methods that comply with international and domestic standards.
For optimization and quality assurance of special deep foundation works, pile tests are performed for the evaluation and/or verification of load bearing capacity in relation to the settlement behaviour of a pile. The tests are evaluated to enhance foundation design and/or after pile production for the confirmation of design assumptions.
“State-of-the-art methods ensure compliance with international geo-measurement standards”
