    Why_Sponsor_Sailing

Sailing sponsorship gives a unique platform for marketingand has the potential to reach international audiences. It

comes with the unique asset of a yacht with large sailarea, which can branded and used as a billboard anddisplayed at a variety of media and public environments.

With solo sailing there is the opportunity to identify with the

skipper and their journey at an emotive level. Your clients, shareholders and employees can have the once in alifetime opportunity to sail on the same yacht used duringthe voyage and to learn firsthand exactly what the skipper

    encountered when at sea.

Sailing sponsorship allows your brand to align itself withcampaigns focussed on performance, determination andpushing limits.

It has a strong association with environmental responsibilityas a venture which harnesses natural power forperformance.

    Engage_Your_Audience

Cutting edge technology allows unprecedentedcoverage over the entire circumnavigation and has

brought offshore sailing to the forefront of world sportingevents. Sailing has been transformed from being remoteand invisible to being a popular spectator event with aglobal following.

Television and Radio broadcasters can connect theiraudiences directly to skippers with live interviews, assatellite and video/audio technology allows for instantcommunication, wherever they are in the world.

TV and Radio audiences can follow up and engage via the internet, either visually with video, stillimages as well as from written blogs, and audio. Animated computer graphics that display the relativepositions of the yacht in real time continue the advancement in technology. This has made sailingmore tangible and has brought gripping stories to a global audience, directly into their living roomsand workplaces.

we were able to link up live to the boat, while they were sailing in the Doldrums, and have the crew answer shareholders questions

live while racing. That was a powerful message to our shareholders, to be able to showcase our technology in such an amazing way.

    Sustainability and the Environment

It would be difficult to think of a better demonstration of sustainability and a more environmentally

friendly venture than sailing. This campaign is perfect for any sponsor who wants to emphasise their

green credentials and demonstrate they are serious contenders at the leading edge of making this

    world a better place.

When sailing a long voyage, the generating and efficient use of power is finely balanced and is

always at the forefront of the skippers mind. The yacht has to be self-sufficient for the entire voyage. It

must generate and sustain enough power to run the navigational instruments, telemetry devices,

media and communications, auto-pilots, and all onboard systems. It is a crucial and integral part of

this venture that during the Around Britain circumnavigation, the technology we use is able to

generate as much power as possible, while being efficient enough to use as little power as possible.

The use of solar panels and wind turbines and energy efficient devices are now common place in the

    world of long haul sailing.

    Skipper_Profile

On the face of it, Julian is a most unlikely candidate for sailing. He grew up in modestsurroundings within a working class family in land-locked Bradford, England. He has a

condition called Spina-Bifida, a disability which affects the spine and makes walkingdifficult. But he has never let this stand in his way of living his life to the full. His love ofadventure has taken him half way across the Atlantic Ocean as well as sailing off thecoast of Britain, Channel Islands and Northern France.

He started sailing in February 2007 and since then he has never looked back. It began on

a stormy night during one of his first few days at sea. The wind was gusting to over 60knots; it howled and whistled through the rigging like a Hollywood soundtrack. Julian wasat the helm as big waves crashed over the decks. When asked what it was about thatnight that compelled him to sail, he is unable to answer other than to say his skin bristled

with something he cant begin to describe. Its a clich for sure, but never in all his life didhe feel so alive.

I believe life is for living and I want my life to be full of the most wonderful experiences and to challenge my abilities. But

much more than that, I want to show that living with disability does not mean having to live a less than ordinary life and that

the ability to excel is within us all.

Living with disability just means things can be harder, but the harder the challenge, the greater the achievement when you

    succeed.

    Skipper_Profile

With sailing he suddenly found himself being able to challenge himself where his disability

held little disadvantage. Its not about trying to be the same as others, but about living hislife to the full. He knows with sailing he has a chance to make his mark, attainachievements beyond thought possible and to go where most able bodied peoplewould not dare. Sailing is a fire in his belly that just refuses to go out.

One of Julians deepest desires is to prove to people living with disability that foolishdreams can come true regardless what difficulties life has presented. He hopes by sailingaround Great Britain and Ireland, that it will inspire disabled people to do even greaterthings themselves. He says if he can do it, then anyone can.

In just a short time Julian has already demonstrated his drive. Hes sailed with Steve Whiteon his Open 60 race yacht and crewed on a 65 foot yacht on a 1200 mile voyage fromThe Azores. He sails his 24 foot boat single handed and with friends off the coast of Britainat every opportunity.

Julian is determined to succeed and he refuses to accept his lot. He continues to workhard and to seek opportunities to increase his offshore sailing experience. His ultimate aimis to be the first disabled person in the world to compete against the able bodied, andwin, in a main stream single handed transatlantic yacht race.

You could be a part of that.
