Parish Pilgrimage to Rome, Assisi, Florence and Siena April 2015

“In the footsteps of St. Francis” A Parish Pilgrimage with Fr. Adrian Peelo, OFM

Associate Pastor at San Luis Rey Parish Following our highly successful pilgrimage in October 2014, there is another opportunity to travel in the foot-steps of St. Francis and experience some of the holiest places in the Catholic world. Visit the tomb of St. Peter and the joy of seeing and hearing His Holiness Pope Fran-cis. Visit the many holy and historic sites of Rome and the Va can; the Sis ne Chapel as well as the catacombs of St. Callisto. Pray in the shrines of Greccio and Assisi and celebrate Mass close to the tomb of St. Francis. Visit the Basilica of St. Clare and pray before the San Damiano Cross – the cross before which St. Francis prayed and where he heard the Lord call to him: “Francis, go and repair my House”. Experience the peace and tranquility of La Ver-na, the beau ful hermitage high in the Apennines where St. Francis received the marks of the s gmata on his hands, feet, and side two years before his death. Wander through the historic streets of Florence with an experienced guide and then see the unrivaled splen-dor of Siena, the “Jewel of Italy” as well as the tomb of St. Catherine, the Basilica of St. Dominic and the famous Duomo. Mass each day and guided tours of all the historic and religious sites.

LIVING THE EUCHARIST

Living the Eucharist program renews and heightens parishioner involvement in the Sunday Eucharist and helps parishioners connect the celebra on of the Eucha-rist more closely with the mission of Jesus Christ and the Church. It will inspire us to live more inten onally as dis-ciples of Jesus during the week. It will help the en re parish grow in our Catholic faith and live more fully as disciples of Jesus. People have said “I learned how to par cipate, instead of being a bystander”. “I believe it is not just receiving Eucharist; it is becoming Eucharist, a servant and a disci-ple of Christ”. And “Overall, this was a great experience one that I pray that all parishioners could have”. We will be offering the “Living the Eucharist” program to the en re parish during the Lenten Season! Start ge ng excited, because it’s coming!!

RESTORATIVE JUSTICE AND DETENTION MINISTRY

Jesus said, “I was in prison and you visited me. What you did for the least of these you did for me.” Restora ve Jus ce focuses on harms commi ed and making the offender accountable to the vic m and the community, and to bring about transfor-ma on of all par es. There are many components including Deten on Ministry, Vic m/Offender Dialogue, reentry prac-

ces, vic m support, and support for the families of the incarcerated. These are corporal works of mercy; ministries of presence, compassion, hope, and love. Compassion, hope, and love flow out of our presence – by being there for them. We impact the lives of those imprisoned in 27 different prisons, jails, and deten on facili es, housing over 25,000 inmates. This includes eight sheriff’s jails, five juvenile deten on facili es, three state prisons, and four federal deten on fa-cili es. Many of these inmates are hungry to deep-en their rela onship with God. We merely become the conduits, or channels, of the Holy Spirit. Our diocese supports twelve chaplains to say Mass, administer the sacraments, and visit inmates individually. We provide assistance to 300 Catholic volunteers to conduct scripture, prayer and discus-sion services. More than 60% of our volunteers have never volunteered for anything else in the Church. This ministry of compassion, hope, and love is possible thanks to the support of the Annual Cath-olic Appeal. This is our special opportunity to trans-form lives on a person-to-person level.

“For I was in prison, and you visited me.” Ma hew 25:36

ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL LLAMADO CATOLICO ANUAL JUSTICIA RESTAURATIVA Y

MINISTERIO DE DETENCION Jesús dijo, “Estuve preso y me vinieron a ver.
