What is JV translate?

JV Translate is a Free Joomla! Module developed by team Joomlavi. It utilizes Google Translate API to allow the user to translate the site or a paragraph of text into another language.

Note: As of version 2.5, JV Translate will use Google Translate API version 2 (Pay per use) instead of Google Translate API version 1 (free for use, but was shut down), thus, while the module itself is free, the act of translating your site with it is not.

Where and hoW can i doWnload JV translate?

To download JV Translate, go to http://www.joomlavi.com and register a username

Login and lookup JV Translate in the Joomla Extensions page (can be found in Joomla Products sub-menu) or use the direct link http://www.joomlavi.com/joomla-extensions/jv-translate.html

Check the box in front of the file name to select it, then click on the download but-ton.

If the file has ‘unzip_first’ in its name, please remember to extract it to get the ‘install file’.

PreParing and installing JV translate

To use JV Translate, you will have to get the right to use Google Translate API ver-sion 2 first.

-Register a google account

-Go to https://code.google.com/apis/console and create a project. For more info please refer to http://code.google.com/apis/console-help/#creatingdeletingprojects

-Create an API access, and generate its API key. For more info, please refer to http://code.google.com/apis/console-help/#generatingdevkeys

-Click on ‘Edit allowed referrers…’ to set up http referrers whom request you will ac-cept. This allows you to restrict which page can use your API.

-Open ‘Services’ page and set Translate API to on. For more info, please refer to http://code.google.com/apis/console-help/#activatingapis

-Go to ‘Billing’ page and enable billing. For more info about this process, please go to http://code.google.com/apis/console-help/#EnableBilling

installing JV translate

-Open your Joomla back end.

-Open the Extension Install/Uninstall page (Joomla! 1.5) or Extension Manager (Joomla! 1.7). They can be found in the Extensions menu.

-Browse for the ‘install file’ you extracted from the ‘unzip_first’ file.

-Click ‘Upload&Install’ to install JV Translate.

Managing JV translate and configuring its ParaMeters

Managing JV TranslateFirst, you have to open the Module Manager (can be found in ‘Extensions’ menu)

-To create a new module based on JV Translate, click new and select JV Trans-late as your Module Type, you will be directed to the parameters page automati-cally.

-To duplicate JV Translate, select it by ticking the box in front of its name and click on the Copy (Joomla! 1.5) / Duplicate (Joomla! 1.7) button.

-To edit the parameters of an existing module based on JV Translate and click on JV Translate’s name, or select it, then click the edit button. You will be directed to it parameters page.

-To publish/unpublish JV Translate or JV Translate based module, select them and click on the Enable (Joomla! 1.5) / Publish (Joomla! 1.7) button or the Dis-able (Joomla! 1.5) / Unpublish (Joomla! 1.7) button. You can also change the publish state of a module quickly by clicking on the icon in the ‘Enable’ (Joomla! 1.5) / ‘Status’ (Joomla! 1.7) column.

-To delete a module based on JV Translate, simply select it and click on the De-lete (Joomla! 1.5) / Trash (Joomla! 1.7) button.

JV Translate’s ParamatersJV Translate has a total of 2 parameter sets: Basic Options (Joomla! 1.7) / Mod-ule Parameters (Joomla! 1.5) and Advance Options (Joomla! 1.7) / Advance Pa-rameters (Joomla! 1.5).

Basic Options/ Module Parameters:

-Google API Key: Enter your Google API Key here. Without the key, JV Translate will not work.

-Module Class Suffix: Enter your module class suffix here.

-Select the language of your webpage: The language you selected in this param-eters will be your site’s default language.

-Translation: This parameter allows you to set your Translation Mode. When set to ‘site’, JV Translate will use Google API to translate your site. When set to ‘text’, JV Translate will translate only the text you entered into its text box.

-Translation Display Mode: The Translation Display Mode defines the way JV Translate displays your language choices.

-Flag size: If you opted to display your language choices as flags, this parameter will define the size of those flags.

This is where you set which language will be supported by your module. Click on the switch next to a language’s name to set it on/off.

Note that, by default, all languages will be supported if all of them were turned off.
