THIS MONTH’S silver starGRACE TELANDER SITS IN THE SILVER SPOTLIGHT FOR APRIL

Grace was born east of Round Rock, in the family home of her grandparents, built in 1872. She grew up on the family farm with five sisters and three brothers. Her father moved here from Sweden when he was 15, while her mother’s family was also from Sweden. As a child, she and her siblings worked hard on the farm, especially when her brothers went to war during WWII. The family was poor, but she never knew it, as she had wonderful parents and a wonderful childhood. Grace and her siblings went to Stony Point School in a small two-room building. She went to Round Rock High School, where she had many friendships that still remain. After she was out of school, she went to work for the Texas Highway Department in Austin. When her mother needed more help, Grace quit her job and lived with and cared for her mother for five years before her passing. She then took a job as a secretary for Palm Valley Lutheran Church in Round Rock, the church where she was baptized and has been a lifelong member. Grace’s family owned the land that the Dell Diamond was built on, and also the land where the new Kalahari Resort is being built. Grace enjoyed traveling with family and friends, having gone to Hawaii, Alaska, Sweden and taking 11 cruises. She enjoyed volunteering for many years for Meals on Wheels, as well as volunteering at the Trinity Lutheran Home. For 15 years, she volunteered at the Adult Day Care here in Round Rock. After living in her family home for 75 years, she moved to The Court at Round Rock, where four sisters have previously lived. While living at The Court, Grace works as an Ambassador of Hospitality, meeting and greeting new residents, visits residents who are out in the hospital or in rehab, and helps to manage our own Country Store. Grace has been blessed with wonderful family and friends. She has enjoyed a great life and has had a lot of fun. What she enjoys most about The Court is the loving and caring nature of the residents and staff. Thank you, Grace, for sharing your time and talent to help enrich our wonderful community!

• Listen to your favorite music.

• If it’s possible, use your TV’s streaming service to catch up on some classic movies or one of those popular TV shows everyone’s talking about.

• Use your tablet or computer and research some topics you’ve always been interested in, learn some phrases in a foreign language, watch a YouTube tutorial or TED talk, or just laugh at some animal videos!

• Above all, maintain a positive attitude. You have likely coped with difficult situations before, and be reassured that you will cope with this current situation as well.

Congratulations to ELENA GARCIA, April’s HEART Hero (Employee of the Month)! Elena works in our Housekeeping Department and has recently been promoted to Lead Housekeeper. In June, she will celebrate her 14-year anniversary working at The Court at Round Rock! Elena has been working alongside her mother, Isidra, and now her sister, Salena, has recently joined the team. It is a true family affair with her father, Isidro, also working in Dining Services. Elena is an excellent Housekeeper, being very conscientious with all that goes on around her. She does everything that is asked of her at any time. She has truly been one of the most dependable, dedicated and hardworking employees that The Court has ever had! Elena is married and has two daughters, who are 11 and 16 years old. She enjoys spending time with her daughters and husband, as well as her extended family. She loves to travel and go road tripping. Elena, we love you and feel so blessed to have you as part of our Court family!

I love this time of year. Winter is slowly making way for warmer temperatures and we always love to see spring arrive. This is also a time when severe weather events such as thunderstorms, lightning, and tornadoes may occur. Our team at The Court is well-prepared for anything that this season may bring. Here are just a few tips to help relieve the possibility of stress or anxiety related to severe weather:

1. Stay alert of weather reports by monitoring a credible, accurate weather news source, such as The Weather Channel.

2. Stay inside the building during severe weather threats and away from doors and windows.

3. Be prepared by having bottled water, a flashlight with batteries, and a blanket that you can access quickly for protection if needed.

4. Be prepared to evacuate or relocate to a safe area if instructed to do so.

Remember, in the event of severe weather, you are not alone. Our team will help keep you informed as weather concerns arise, and will be there to assist you and point you to safety if necessary.
