WHERE DOES ITTAKE PLACE?

TIDES is an immersive, multi-year science program that combines rigorous interdisciplinary curriculum, hands-on learning, and confidence building scuba training to unlock students’ natural curiosity and passion for the ocean.

TIDES is open to any student ages 12 and up. All students must answer a medical questionnaire and may be required to provide a physician’s approval. Students should be able to swim 200 yards unaided and float for 10 minutes. Swim lessons also available.

Students are required to complete 8-12 hours of home study and will need internet access. All workshops and pool training will be conducted at Ocean First in Boulder. Students are responsible for their own transportation.

THE OCEAN FIRSTEXPERIENCEYour passport to the underwater world begins with the Ocean First Open Water Diver course. This class introduces you to the exhilarating sport of scuba diving. As a TIDES graduate, you will gain the knowledge and skills necessary to be a safe, responsible, and conscientious diver. In addition to your open water certification, the program includes introductory courses in marine science to instill a sense of accountability and awareness in our students about the ocean and its inhabitants. In the Open Water Diver course, you will acquire and refine all the skills necessary to ensure proper diving techniques. After completion of the four open water checkout dives, you will earn an SSI Open Water Diver certification! This certification allows you to dive autonomously with an equally qualified buddy. It also enables you to continue your TIDES journey, as you will now be eligible for the year-two program.
