employees from the Power Systems Institute program it

has with Pierpont Community and Technical College in Fairmont.

"The PSI program is the pipeline that ensures we have well-trained, highly skilled employees to provide safe, reliable electric service for our customers," said Holly Kauffman, president of FirstEnergy's West Virginia operations. "The new graduates will work shoulder to shoulder with our veteran linemen and substation personnel and fill key jobs as current employees retire.

Free community college bill passes West Virginia legislature

• Senate President Mitch Carmichael was the architect of SB 1 and the 2018 legislation

• “Marshall University believes that helping West Virginians defray the cost of higher education is a plus because it gets more students into the pipeline.” said Leah Payne, Marshall’s head of communications.

Pierpont & WVNCC, partner with Murray Energy Inc.

Pierpont Community and Technical College and West Virginia Northern Community College (WVNCC) have formed apartnership with Murray Energy Corporation to offer a new associate degree program, Mine Maintenance. The two-yearprogram also includes opportunities to gain experience with Murray Energy. The program will begin with theFall 2018 Semester, and students can enroll now at either school. Informational sessions will be held at Pierpont’s FairmontCampus on Saturday, June 9, and at WVNCC’s Wheeling Campus on Saturday, June 16.

Anyone interested in the new Mine Maintenance Program must apply by July 9 for the fall semester by visiting www.pierpont.edu or www.wvncc.edu. Once accepted, students will berequired to complete a two-week training offered by Murray Energy. Upon acceptance into the program at either college, students will also have the opportunity to work part-time withMurray Energy. After successfully completing the program students will have the potential to be hired by Murray Energy full-time.

“In recent years, we have seen and have forecasted an increased need for talented maintenance personnel within our business,” said Ryan Murray, Murray Energy vice president,operations. “This program will allow us to recruit and train the proper individuals for unprecedented career growth opportunities in the maintenance fields. The partnership will be our No.1 conduit for hiring maintenance personnel. We encourage applications to the program starting today.”

Pierpont receives national recognition from White House

• FAIRMONT, W.Va. — The challenges of reskilling workers in West Virginia andthroughout the country are getting some national attention. Pierpont Community& Technical College recently received praise from the White House Council ofEconomic Advisers (CEA) for its innovative programs offered at the Robert C. ByrdNational Aerospace Education Center in Bridgeport to combat those challenges.
